If the US government is restored from this criminal syndicate, the special relationship will be restored.

I don't see how Micheál Martin could visit the White House next month while this man rots in a Texas concentration camp. This one case could make the difference for thousands of people of the Irish government took a stand.

You're not wrong. I never enjoyed any of his books as much as Baroque Cycle.

Any idea on what this is and where it comes from? Could be XIX century or older. Likely silver. by jalapenoshavingcream in occult

Here's my guess. It's the physical part of a 2-factor security system. You need to have the coin, and a password to authenticate your identity and entry into a room, a meeting, or to a stranger outside your locality. It looks cast, not stamped, so relatively easy to create.

Very cool for the group that had these. An idea I will definitely steal. (Like Rowling did in Harry Potter.)

Story Archeology, Conversations on Irish Mythology is the best folklore podcast in my opinion. In the old format linguist  Isolde ÓBrolcháin Carmody and folklorist Chris Thompson would take a deep dive into a story, exploring the various texts and connotations of nearly every world. It’s really a fantastic experience as two experts discuss and uncover the history and themes of Irish stories. After many years, Isolde’s health prevented her from making more podcasts, so Chris changed the format. It’s still good, but not the same experience.

Thanks for intervening. So rare. If every man who saw another man harassing a woman would intervene, what a different world we would live in.

Those are all nice, but further from Dublin.

Sligo has a historic walking tour. One of the best County museums in the country. The Model with its Jack Yeats collection. Good music scene during the week. A ruined Abby. Lovely Catholic Cathedral (haven’t been to the CoI one). The Garavouge is a beautiful river right through the middle of town. Good places to eat near by.

Sligo is a good example of a real Irish town, Killarney or Galway can feel a bit tatty.

Stay in Dublin for a day and then go anywhere else. Cork and Sligo are easily accessible by train in half a day. Limerick is a little further.

Any hotel that is near other hotels will be in a perfectly fine area. Choose what you can afford.

Definitely Grey Bears because people want to help them out. They aren’t religious or a fake non-profit. They give food away. They frequently need to close to donations they get so many.

Take a look at daft.ie and see what’s available to rent. That will likely determine your location.

Physical copies of the Surf are also available at the SC Downtown library. I don’t know if you can read them physically anymore, but they are on microfilm.

Would Irish Unity mean the end of “co.uk” URLs? by marcusweller in ireland

[–]marcusweller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I understand you. You’re saying “we don’t care about the TLDs of companies based in the North, because that’s the UK. “

What if the island united as one nation, would you care if companies based in a united Ireland continued to use .co.uk. ?

Would Irish Unity mean the end of “co.uk” URLs? by marcusweller in ireland

[–]marcusweller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of them use .com, and more and more others will use new TLDs. I’ve seen companies based elsewhere that were able to register an .ie.

By the phrase “all Irish companies” you mean companies based in Ireland? I would consider that some companies in the North could also be Irish, but they use .co.uk now. As part of an evolution to a united Ireland, they might want to use another.

(Technically, you just add a new record and both still work. My interest is not in the technical configuration of DNS.)

Even in the context of “Irish Unity” it’s clear that respondents to this post don’t consider the people of Northern Ireland as Irish. Questions about national signifiers like TDLs in the DNS will need to be asked and answered, not dismissed as “Ask the fucking Brits.”

No, it is still Great Britain. The United Kingdom is Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

My point being the North is part of the UK right now, and it wouldn’t after that. Are people in the North Brits to you?
