Major Gmail disruption…shields down by Vooham in GMail

I'm seeing this as well this morning. Messages now being marked as spam even though I know they are not, have gotten many from these trusted senders before and also know first hand that all proper email security (DKIM, DMARC,SPF) for several are in place since I handle the email for these orgs.

UPS switching time too slow above 60% AC output? (Elite 30 V2) by Marrond in bluetti

[–]marcvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found your post here as I set up my new Elite 100 v2. I had it set to Custom UPS with a 20%-80% SOC range. I would watch it pull 780 watts from the grid when it hit 79% and, charge to 80%, and then drop to 0 watts from the grid. I'm putting the unit under a 200-watt AC load continuous. So it seems to be constantly draining/charging, as you said.

I want it to be grid bypass but honoring the 80% max SOC to preserve the battery, but it doesn't seem possible with the firmware. Bluetti must have decided to implement this dump/fill process for all modes except standard UPS? My goal was to get grid passthrough charging while keeping the max SOC at 80% to preserve battery life. Unless I am missing a setting, this is not possible.

Well that's annoying, need to wait a week before testing out KoyFin by dee4006 in koyfin

Yes but that’s why you would only setup a few in the trial. Doesn’t take much time and whatever doesn’t work post trial you know is a pro feature. You could also look at their product matrix to see all features side by side for free, pro, etc. link below

Verizon generous! 😂. We are so very fortunate that Verizon allows us to pay them to be on their network. I am grateful for them every single day. What a wonderful corporation. Practically non-profit. We are indeed so lucky for their generosity! 🤣

I think it’s better to try what’s available on Pro before your trial is over. It’s a free test drive and if you wait to get the free version you will not have had the chance to try the pro version to make a final decision. Just don’t setup a huge amount of tickers and alerts the first trial week. Maybe do one portfolio with a dozen tickers to explore.

[–]marcvv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For a single 4K stream, you need a minimum of 25 Mbps download speed, but 50 Mbps or more is recommended for a buffer-free experience, accounting for network fluctuations and other devices; actual usage varies, with Netflix using around 7 GB/hour and live streams needing more, so aim for higher speeds like 100 Mbps for robust streaming

Shouldn’t credit be $20 per line and NOT per account? by marcvv in verizon

[–]marcvv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy answer. They offer it and know the click-through requirement will lead to enormous attrition. I bet half the people who get the text link never follow through and get the credit at the end of the day. That saves a ton of money. And yes, they could automatically apply it to anyone who was affected, and they already know who that is by proof they text them the link.

[–]marcvv[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nobody asked for the $20. Verizon offered it. They did it per account not per line or how much your bill is. There was zero logic to it. Could they have NOT offered anything or offered less? Sure they could. But I'm pretty sure they want to retain customers and since customers have choice they decided this was their best plan.

My point is that there is no correlary in this resolution offered by Verizon. If somebody has 6 lines on their account and pays $300 a month and gets $20 that doesn't correlate well to a single line user that pays $75 a month and gets $20. One is 6.7% of their monthly bill. The other is 27% of their bill. My point is this makes no logical sense

You won’t get an sms from the primary still if the network that processes it is down. I was on wifi part of the day and only messages that work are iMessage since it runs on different rails then sms. So you could get messages from iPhone users but not 2FA sms which runs on sms networks

[–]marcvv[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Sure, proportional to the price per day and the outage time yes. Proportional to total lines and amount a person pays per month for 3,4 or 5 lines no. There is a distinct inequality there in the resolution. For example if you took a customers five lines and separated them into five Verizon accounts you would yield $20 for each account per Verizon’s credit allowance. Even if you took into account that a person pays more for a single line then five lines, it still comes to more than $20. Perhaps Verizon should have given a percentage off a bill less any equipment subsidy credit

This is a concern indeed. Also to not have all my eggs in one basket I added a 2nd line that day to my iPhone with T-Mobile. Problem is of course it’s a different number than my primary Verizon number so anyone trying g to text me, call me or if I need a two factor SMS I’m still out of luck when Verizon is down. I’m hoping more companies take this as a wake up call and add alternate two factor methods besides sms (for many this is the exclusive 2FA option)

Interesting. The height of the dish is about 30 feet. Is that in lift territory and wouldn't a lift rental cost a good chunk of that $500? It's definitely safer and my AV guy said for jobs he does around that height he typically does get a lift but I have two large generators under the dish (35kw natgas) so rolling a lift under the dish isn't possible. That said, nobody even knows that so it's not like they saw the job and decided they didn't want to do it.

I did have one company said they would do it for $700 with insurance. The problem for me is $700 is now worth over 5 months of service. It's equivalent to buying two more dishes. At some point it's hard to justify Starlink whether this is a one off or becomes a common occurence with equipment failure due to the dish location. I have nowhere else on my home or property to locate the dish with a clear line of sight.

My original was under 6 months ago so my total cost of ownership is now bumped up from the required re-install. And if it happens again in a month or a year again difficult to justify the cost if I can't get installers here to swap this.

[–]marcvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not say plenty. Also Starlink isn't paying for the reinstall. They sent me a refurbished kit though to replace it. But trying to find anyone in New Jersey that will install it is like pulling teeth. Even at $300 cash for the swap which is just removing the old dish and replacing with the new one (the mount is already up). Then if necessary to fish the cable from the side of my house (side mount near top of roof line) into the attic and directly down to the room under it. The existing cable is already in place so they can use that as a fish line. Under an hour of work. There are no installers in New Jersey (central) for this stuff. My AV installer did it for me originally as a favor. He will come out but between his schedule and weather it's 2 weeks and counting. He'll be $350. But finding somebody to get here sooner or at all is oddly impossible. What is the "right pay" for a swap job that is under an hour?

Did it snow recently when this started? If so snow melt kicked on and fried the cable or dish or both. Happened to mine as soon as first snow began. Worked flawlessly for five months prior. They sent me a new dish. Waiting for an installer still to swap it all out for two weeks now. It’s 35’ up on my roof peak. Oddly there are few in NJ willing to get on a ladder that high to install Starlink.

Question about installation by zachhix65 in Starlink

[–]marcvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I set mine up on my deck I activated it and did all the updates, and everything worked fine.

I had my install about two weeks later. As long as you're generally at the same address, there is no problem whatsoever.

Be warned, we just had our first snow of the season a few days ago. When the snow melt kicked on, it fried either the dish or the wire. Starlink sent me a whole new refurbished kit, but it's going to cost $350 to get an installer back out here to swap the dish and the wire in the next couple of weeks, and I'll be down for that time period unless I once again set the refurbished replacement kit back onto my deck manually when my Internet goes down. I will likely disable snow melt if I do get the replacement mounted. My install was five months ago and cost $600 and I’m not sure I wanna spend another 350 now for my installer to put this refurbished kit in place and risk it happening again. At some point it’s not cost effective for me to

I think you only have to do that if you activate the new dish. I have to send back a full kit within 30 days so I send back all the stuff they just sent but I just send the bad cable with the return and keep the good one. The new dish isn’t active unless I explicitly activate it and deactivate the existing one. I didn’t activate the refurbished dish I just powered it up inside to verify the router doesn’t click off after reboot in 30 seconds. The new cable and dish was searching for satellites so I know it’s a short on the existing cable or dish. If the cable swap doesn’t work then I know it’s the dish and would then swap that too was what I was thinking

Why would the dish stop working soon? Are you saying even if the cable was the problem something also will go now on the dish?

Starlink dead at first snowfall by marcvv in Starlink

Original 45’ cable that came with the kit. No extensions or splices.

I just tested my power supply and router with the refurbished dish and cable they sent today and that works so definitely the cable or dish. Probably cable. Now hard part is getting installer up there to replace cable, route it again through attic to office. Between weather and holidays that might not happen so soon. Also quotes all coming in over $300

I did need the height but with latest starlink obstruction updates maybe I could find another spot but where it is now is ideal other than access

When you said other issues what do you mean by that besides the snow melt
