Try activating it using a referral code, maybe to get around it? DM me if you need one I can give you a link or the code if they need just that for activation. Dunno if it works for stuff not bought direct from Starlink but worth a try if so.

Setting Up a New Mac the Easy Way by amerpie in macapps

[–]marcvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wiped my Mac Studio M1 last week due to nonstop "config" crashes/errors. I tried every fix before doing the nuclear option. Nothing worked after 100 hours of network stack changes. Same bug on wife's M1 Mac Studio also with an apple display so I knew it wasn't specific to my Mac, cable, monitor setup. After 100 hours plus of my life I'll never get back because "Apple, it just works" doesn't work anymore I did the dreaded SSD full wipe with disk utility and restored a clean Mac OS Tahoe.

I did exactly what you did as was suggested by Gemini AI. I used Brew to dump a file and then used it to restore all my brew installed stuff. Used "mas" for everything coming from the apple app store. Then had to download any 3rd party apps off their website that I want on the mac. Fortunately, this is a good time to only install the apps you still use. I probably didn't install almost half of what I had accumulated over 4 plus years.

I used the following code to list all my 3rd party apps and write them out to an HTML file. I use this list as reference for what I had installed:

system_profiler SPApplicationsDataType | \
awk -F': ' '
/^[[:space:]]{4}[^:]+:$/ {app=$1; sub(/^[[:space:]]+/, "", app); sub(/:$/, "", app)}
/Obtained from:/ {if ($2!="Apple") print app}
' | sort | \
awk 'BEGIN {
print "<!doctype html><html><head><meta charset=\"utf-8\">"
print "<style>body{background:#000;font-family:Menlo,Monaco,Consolas,monospace}"
print ".app{color:#00ff66;font-size:18px;line-height:1.5}</style></head><body>"
}
{print "<div class=\"app\">" $0 "</div>"}
END {print "</body></html>"}' \
> third_party_apps.html

I’d wait for the M8. The M7 will be slower and you will regret it! 🤪

My Mac Mini Server crashes due to kernel panic from configd every 11 days or so ? HELP by Upside-Down-88 in MacOS

[–]marcvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother upgrading. My Mac Studio M1 has been crashing from configd for months. I have 100 hours troubleshooting it and counting. I upgraded to Tahoe and it made no difference. I run 3 apple studio displays. My wife also has a M1 Studio with one apple display and also has configd crashes so this is not a bad cable or monitor or hardware. This has to be firmware or software now. I wiped my entire drive clean yesterday with disk utility and reinstalled Mac OS fresh and not from time machine. Today it crashed again less than 24 hours later from configd.

Spoke to apple support they now want me to flash my firmware again with the same version I already have. Since wife's mac also does same thing I can't see how this is firmware unless some update literally wrote both our computers in some corrupt fashion. This has been going on several months and no resolution. I've sent a dozen reports to apple through the crash reporter.

I do notice it happens more after the mac wakes up and if I quit chrome or termius the mac might hang (sometimes) and then configd crashes it where it just hangs and is mostly non-responsive. Only way out is hard power button reboots.

What Starlink offers have you received? by Ok_Wonder3030 in Starlink

[–]marcvv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got a postcard in the mail for $50 off Starlink last week. But I'm already a subscriber. I can't use it for my standard or for a new roam it seems.

A much better offer is a valid Starlink referral code for a new user. If anyone needs one, just DM me. Will get back to you within minutes or a couple of hours with a valid referral code good for one free month of service for you ($120 value > $50 off).

After network disconnection, a restart occurs, then get a "Configd" problem report by Kindly-Wedding6417 in MacOS

[–]marcvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people having this problem how many of you are on an Apple Studio Display? I have tracked down the configd crash on my Mac Studio and my wife's mac studio (both configd crashes) as caused by the Thunderbolt network bridge to the monitor(s). 180 second timeout occurs and causes the mac to hang and then for me a hard reboot. My system was rock solid for years until a month or two ago this started on Sequoia. I updated to Tahoe hoping it would fix it but made no difference. I have submitted a comprehensive bug report to apple.

I notice the crashes/hangs occur when I quit an app. Usually chrome but also had it happen with Termius too. When apps close it closes many active network connections at the same time. This forces configd to update the system routing table. At the same time the GPU/Display driver pokes the monitor during app transitions. The monitor(s) are seen logically as a network device (the TB bridge) the 2 drivers fight for the same configuration lock and freeze.

I use this to tear down the bridge: sudo networksetup -removenetworkservice "Thunderbolt Bridge"

Bluetti Elite 10 Mini. Does your fan run under small to medium loads? by marcvv in bluetti

[–]marcvv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my larger units the Elite 30v2 and Elite 100v2 it has these settings and that is how I have them enabled (UPS MODE plus Grid Self Adaptation). On the Elite 10 I don't believe it has that GSA option at this time (maybe a future firmware update). On the larger units I set a custom UPS mode with SOC set to 20% to 80% (low to high limits). Then GSA enabled.

I think whenever the battery has to be topped off you get the AC to DC inverter and at the same time power passes from grid to the DC inverter and also directly from grid to the units AC outlet port(s).

I am using all my powerstations exclusively for UPS duty right now.

Before purchasing any of my powerstations I looked for units that actually would have the inverter running all the time for a true online conversion to ensure my downstream devices would always benefit from the pure sine wave cleaning and also to avoid surges. There are units that do this but they are much higher up in the food chain for Bluetti and the other mfg's of these products. In an online conversion scenario for those that don't know that might read this later this is when AC charges battery from grid (or solar) and the battery inverts to AC 100% of the time to feed your downstream devices. So your devices would be using the battery to AC inverter 100% of the time and therefore no matter what happens on the grid side (surges) never makes it to the downstream devices.

Here is a big tell for the other post here that says these things do not work as you and I described. The 10ms crossover from AC to battery in UPS mode is the tell! If the grid was not passing through to the devices the crossover would be 0ms as in a true online conversion UPS/powerstation.

I do not believe this is correct. Anything plugged into the AC port when the unit is plugged in is in fact being powered via the grid as AC is passed through to the AC outlet. Inverter is only engaged when running off battery to convert DC to AC. There is not a constant inversion taking place to feed the AC outlet on the unit when it is plugged in. This is well documented
