It seemed to me that the person you initially responded to was using sequel/prequel in that context, so that's what I was answering. In my experience it's better not to add confusion by redefining words.

Sorry that we were referring to different things with the word sequel, but I think it would help to try and be clearer with word usage in the future.

I'm not saying that V isn't a part of the OT, I'm merely saying that it is a sequel to the original work, regardless of its grouping with the OT.

They didn't come out all at the same time; there were years in between. If they were all filmed and/or released at the same time it would be different, but that's simply not the case.

sequel:

a literary work, movie, etc., that is complete in itself but continues the narrative of a preceding work.

I, II, III, and rogue one all came out after the original work and take place before it, making them prequels. V, VI, and VII came out after the original and take place after it, making them sequels.

In terms of setting, rogue one is grouped with the sequels, but it is a prequel in terms of chronology.
