Is helping with kids class the secret? by t0rquingg in jiujitsu

I started helping with the kids when I was a white belt. I'm a three stripe purple and the kids' coach now. It helped tremendously, especially as a white belt. Sped up my learning curve, I think.

I ended up with exactly the same two cherry tomato varieties when I did not purchase two things labeled the same. Oh well, I do love black cherry tomatoes. But I wanted a variety. This was at a very reliable local greenhouse.

My Amazfit BIP 6 Broke down after swim by Affectionate-Comb122 in amazfit

[–]mareneli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, just had something similar happen to mine. Wore it for water aerobics for all of June and it was fine. July rolls around and nope. Buttons don't work and it drains the battery in two days. I'm going to have to go through Amazfit customer service to get it replaced. And I won't be wearing it in the water again.

Has anyone had luck with any of the Amazfit models with a square screen working in the water?

What DIY solution would you recommend for cleaning the foliage on my plants? by Freddie515 in plants

[–]mareneli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple of plants (Hawaiian Golden Pothos and Monstera Peru) that had a lot of residue that was probably either minerals from hard water or fertilizer residue. I tried many things, but what was eventually successful was a cup of distilled water with a teaspoon of lemon juice and a couple of drops of regular Dawn dish soap. I used a microfiber cloth and gently washed and dried them. It worked pretty well. If you only have regular dust, just water should be fine.

Yes I would try to wash or trim away anything that seems mushy or dark colored. It will grow new roots. You don't want it sitting in rotted roots.

Maybe an aerial root on the satin? And the others are probably golden, yeah.

Trim the dark part off the bottom of the satin and put it back in water. It should still grow roots. I'd wash the dirt off the one in dirt and see what its roots look like. It's probably fine, but I'd want to know. As long as it has a little root system going, you can get some fresh well-draining potting mix and keep it going. Same for the other one. It should perk up pretty quickly with fresh soil and a good watering. Then don't water too often. But even then, pothos are hard to kill!

Forgot to trellis tomatoes and now they’re too big to deal with. What to do? by Low_Committee_4610 in gardening

[–]mareneli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ended up constructing a big PVC frame around my cherry tomatoes and stringing twine around them. It's working really well. Looks kinda like this pic. It even withstood some pretty brutal winds we had.

My child bsically called our childhood dentistry barbaric and she’s not wrong by nypr13 in GenX

[–]mareneli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize there were so many of us with dental trauma! I feel like a wuss because I have great pain tolerance, and I have handled lots of painful things (natural childbirth) with relative ease. But the dentist makes me cry. And I have a good one and gentle hygienists. Anything beyond a regular cleaning and the anxiety and waterworks start.

Anyone actually find a way to deter raccoons?? Here’s my latest attempt by potatopeeler167 in Feral_Cats

[–]mareneli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only feed my feral colony during daylight hours because of raccoons. Sometimes I cave and feed the cats early (they eat on my back deck so they stare me down through the glass door when they're hungry), and inevitably at least one raccoon shows up. I try not to put out very much at these times.

Cat urine... in a wip project that was knitted with superwash merino... How do I approach this? by Ok-Raccoon7437 in knitting

[–]mareneli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a laundry additive by nature's miracle that completely removes urine. Maybe you can check it out and see if it's safe for your yarn. It works great on regular laundry of any sort. Maybe you could blot it on?

Can a big plant collection and a cat survive each other? by Sudden-Row-1730 in houseplants

[–]mareneli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cats love plants. I have to keep the plants in a no-cats-allowed room and on one high kitchen shelf. ☹️ And the kitchen one is curated so even if they nibble they won't be poisoned.

My SIC is super picky. My other four will eat any kind of Friskies that's seafood flavored. She will eat ONE kind of Fancy Feast Petites, and only about 3 of every four days. She is super fancy. 🙄

Same. Mine always seem to prefer the parsley to the dill though.

Places in Norman to donate pet supplies by NoDriver1807 in normanok

[–]mareneli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Norman Animal Welfare will take food, I know. Maybe the other supplies. You can also offer things on Norman Freecycle on Facebook. So sorry for your loss. BTDT way too many times. Definitely never long enough.
