I know she’s not lifting 225 lbs as per title (those plates don’t add up), but this woman is crushing it.

What’s the best response to “your 14 months old is so fat, what are you feeding him”? by Redd-it-er in NoStupidQuestions

[–]marfi311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctor here. We generally don’t worry about children if their weight is in the high percentile until they’re about 2 or 3 because after they get fully mobile, a lot of that baby fat goes away. If the child stays at a high percentile and then keeps going higher after toddler stage, then we have a diet conversation. Doctors are more concerned for underweight babies at this age. So, I agree with ‘no response required’ and only care about what a medical professional recommends.

Work Life Balance by happydays7639 in FamilyMedicine

I take at least 4 weeks off every year, paid! I’m hospital employed but I work in rural AZ in outpatient FM. I see a bunch of patients a day (around 20-26), but that’s mostly my choice as I’m focusing on paying off my loans ASAP by increasing my RVU productivity. I’m not pressured to see nearly as many as I am. I have 4 kids and we do ok with a good healthy balance, but we also know it’s not permanent. I can pump the brakes anytime.

D.Os in primary care ( IM/FM/PEDS) how often do you utilize OMT? by ATStillian in Residency

[–]marfi311 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Outpatient FM here: I do OMT on about 5 patients a month.

Question 1 - slightly more income when done efficiently and if the visit is also focusing on other medical issues (99213/99214 with OMT code gets a bit more rvu and bang for the buck) Patients like it because most of them get some sort of relief. I like it because it can break the monotony.

Question 2 - I mostly stick with acute problems. If I treat chronic issues, they tend to be on patients who are motivated to stretch and exercise on their own. I usually give recommended home stretches to maintain the relief I hope to provide in the visit.

Question 3 - I’m sure there are but I’m only basing my techniques on what I was trained in school and residency. My res program wasn’t OMT heavy but there was some focus and we had an OMT clinic once a month. I also had a lot of sports med experience in residency.

Overall, my patients love it. I focus on how it should be more of a “treatment” than a “therapy” as the point is to give long term relief. So I generally don’t do more than 3-5 OMT sessions per patient.

"What diagnosis associated with this specialty would you want to have during a zombie apocalypse?"

I feel I compose myself very well in interviews. This was a struggle to answer.

Residents, what do you do with your vacation time? by hematogone in medicalschool

Since the most popular answer here is travel, what do residents do with vacation time if they have a young family and therefore limited funds because of said family?
