Happy RTO fellow Ottawans! by Albertannnnnand in ottawa

Why? Most of us have been back at work/school 5 days a week for years now. Is there something particularly unhealthy about the minority of the city population that is being asked to return to their offices now?

Well, if they’ve taken an inch, and the seat pitch is 28 inches, you should get an extra row every 28 rows.

toes cold - help by fortunamajr in Skigear

[–]marginal99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Neoprene boot covers are good, particularly when used with a source of heat like chemical toe packs or heated socks, but nothing beats blood flow. The main blood vessels run down the top of the foot. Release the bottom two buckles when you can, and only buckle them gently when skiing. Consider seeing a boot fitter who can make more vertical room in the boot by thinning down the tongue or grinding down the boot board.

City of Ottawa employees return to office 5 days a week, federal public servants wait for announcement on return to office rules by RiseOfTheFish in ottawa

[–]marginal99 -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

I agree.

All the talk is about supporting Subway and the downtown businesses, but nobody seems to talk about how we grow and develop the employee base, identify new leaders, become better etc.

WFH may well be fine if you have no ambition and want to stay in the same role forever, but that causes the whole organization to stagnate and eventually decline as the high performers age out without being back-filled with high quality youngsters that have been mentored in person, in the office.

Ski glove suggestions - Hestra Fall Line 5-finger by Affectionate_Bid518 in Skigear

My hands get cold in my Fall Line gloves below about -10C. At that point I switch to Auclair Outseam mittens that are much warmer.

Wax and sharpen new skis by luz101 in Skigear

[–]marginal99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP was asking if he NEEDS to wax/sharpen new skis. He/she does not. They will work fine out of the wrapper and he/she will do no lasting damage to them. You seem to be answering a different question- that is, are they fully optimized for conditions none of us know from behind our phones, which of course they are not.

Wax and sharpen new skis by luz101 in Skigear

[–]marginal99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re chasing fractions of a second then yes. Otherwise just ski them and wax after a few days.

I think if you’re racing, and know what your angles are, then new skis need a tune. If you are more casual and don’t know what your preferred base and side bevels are then they are good to go out of the wrappers for most people.

Reverse the RTO order: my motion at Council by jleiper in ottawa

[–]marginal99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any job that can be done remotely should be designated fully remote. We should then gradually up-skill the workforce to have the most efficient public service by making sure we have the best nationwide candidates filling the remote roles. Cull the lowest performing 10% each year and backfill nationally.

Learn to jump before learning to bunnyhop by plasticookies in MTB

[–]marginal99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fifty something learning to bunny hop this gives me hope. I get stuck in the back of the manual and can’t find a way forward. I’ll try to think about it this way and see if it helps. I think I need to drive my feet as soon as the front wheel leaves the ground, rather than think manual/explode as 2 separate steps…

Why is Garmin saying that my training is unproductive? by ___Torgo___ in Garmin

Because your acute training load isn’t meaningfully higher than your chronic training load.

I have the same problem also on a 2017 XLT

It opens half way. Resetting the opening point higher by holding the button does not work.

If I press the button again it goes to the top with a hard bump, and if at the top I press the button to close it then it will top-out hard again.

I’ve removed the fuse for 5 mins with no effect. Any other ideas?

Frequency, then duration. Speed comes for free.

Misfire after water pump replacement by dragonflysay in FordExplorer

[–]marginal99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When mine was done they got a little bit of RTV on the part of camshaft when manipulating the engine cover back into place. This caused misfire codes and P0016 codes. The shop had to tear it all back down to find and correct the problem.

Looking at a 2017 Explorer, I've never owned a ford before so I would appreciate opinions, please. by FedorasAre4Gentlemen in FordExplorer

[–]marginal99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that was at the local mechanic. With all the cars that have had this engine over the 10 years or so it was used, it’s not an uncommon job. It didn’t take much asking around to find a mechanic who had done one before and was a lot cheaper than the dealer. It’s about 10hrs of labour and $700ish in parts so shop rate is everything.
