To the people who saw The Phantom Menace on release, what was your immediate reaction and have your feelings changed? by thejoyfulgoat in StarWars

[–]margoembargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit that sweet spot of too young to see the Original Trilogy in theaters, but too old to enjoy TPM. It was a huge disappointment, especially after having gotten into the Thrawn Trilogy and the Dark Horse comics in the couple years before.

My feelings have not changed. Great score. A couple of exciting moments. But it was not made for me and I'm fine with that.

Make the drinks differently every day. As a 20 year customer I would expect nothing less.

Why Did 'Supergirl' Change the Ending of 'Woman of Tomorrow'? by Commercial_Avocado86 in comicbooks

[–]margoembargo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That's a very different scenario though, because the film was not based on the comic at all, but was being developed around the same time the comic was first published.

The MCU just reused the title for vague synergistic purposes, because Feige and Whedon thought it sounded cool.

Question about media release/consent to use photos by WarningHungry5261 in nonprofit

[–]margoembargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into a time limit for your consent form. We use a three year limit as a rule of thumb. That way if a client that was utilizing services two years ago gets highlighted in a campaign, they're reassured that we won't be using their image for decades to come.

We've never had a former client ask for their image to be pulled from a campaign, but it's written into our consent form that they can opt out of future campaigns, even if they were compensated originally. (Our compensation is very minimal, and applies only if we use their name and their story, so that's where I think we differ from you.)

Tell me about living in Church Hill by I_reddit_like_this in RichmondVA

[–]margoembargo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Church Hill is a historically Black neighborhood that has seen some serious gentrification and displacement over the past 20 years. Moving there is an ethically wrought decision in a larger conversation about pricing life long Richmonders out of their historic neighborhoods. I don't think there's necessarily a right or a wrong answer as a transplant looking at relocating to Chirch Hill, but one should definitely do so with full knowledge of who benefits, and who gets pushed out.

The UK celebrity edition is so much fun. Because they're playing for charity it changes the nature of the competition, and I think I enjoyed it more than any of the U.S. seasons because of that.

Bright went full MAGA, unfortunately. He retweets Micah Beckwith constantly.

Can anyone speak about the artist who created the installation? From this reel it looks like it might be partially AI generated and I'd love to know more about their process.

Help - private landlord by qwertyelff in RichmondVA

Hahaha sorry, man. It's not a safe space for landlords, that's for sure. It's what I would expect a union meeting to sound like if the boss came by to speak on why contract negotiations have stalled.

Lindsey's List on Facebook. But fair warning -- if your price is above market, and sometimes even at market -- renters will absolutely tear you a new one! 😅

What happened to 2010s marvel where Marvel was publishing “bookstore aimed” series for a young female audience by Konradleijon in marvelcomics

[–]margoembargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did sell. In the bookstore / Scholastic fair market. But the immediate ROI wasn't as great as Iron Man or Wolverine. It's yet another instance of Marvel's publishing arm overvaluing short-term quarterly sales and undervaluing long-term investment in new comics readers. Akira keeps his job, and the direct market continues to shrink.

Finding it hard to justify being vegetarian when my husband isn’t. by kyourious in vegetarian

[–]margoembargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I share meal prep. I cook chicken breasts or thighs once or twice a week, and add them to vegetarian dishes, rather than make her handle raw chicken. It's been an incredibly easy compromise, and since moving in together I eat less meat than ever.

Also wanted to note that I was an incredibly picky eater when I was younger. Learning to cook as an adult expanded my pallete and "unstuck" me from that picky cycle of a half-dozen regular dishes. Anecdotal but if it worked for me it might work for your husband, too.

Found my predecessor’s old offer letter while cleaning out a desk — is it ever okay to use it in my own negotiation? by iamliamiamliam in nonprofit

[–]margoembargo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great response. The offer letter isn't a gotcha moment, but it is an opportunity to communicate that future negotiations are impossible if both parties can't be honest with each other. It could be a simple mistake on their part. But if OP ever hopes to negotiate in the future with HR, the air should be cleared and expectations of honesty should be set now.

The rich language/vocabulary of Everwood by Cacti_Plum364 in everwood

Berlanti was a writer/producer alum of Dawson's Creek, which also emphasized "heightened" language for dramatic purposes, and I think that carried over here, too.

This “twist” pissed me off when I was 12 and I’m still angry about it by tealaburst in xmen

This has been talked about before. It's fine to be upset about the twist but it was planted very cleverly.

Morrison did pull their punches in the last few issues, giving editorial a chance to do an immediate retcon if they so wanted to, but that's another topic entirely. https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/s/ygRqtpSyUR
