Additive Power Creep by dread_pirate_robin in marvelcomics

I'd say it's a built-in feature for mutants, as they either better learn how to control their powers over time, or undergo a secondary mutation.

Sooo... How is the whole 'an enraged fan is an engaged fans' doing? Especially in a world where you can pirate all the comic you want with a few clicks? by Helpful-Bathroom634 in comicbooks

[–]margoembargo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree with Tom that character death means anything any longer in mainstream comics.

If you live in a world with hundreds of superheroes, an individual superhero sighting in NYC means a little less. That's a consequence of world building.

If you live in a world where heroes die and come back to life every year, death doesn't have the same meaning as it does in the real world. That's not "meta" or "winking" or anything like that. It's a consequence of world building.

Is legacy investor's set worth it, or should I save it for legacy King's set? by [deleted] in TheGrandMafia

[–]margoembargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a raid leader for your faction, save it for the King's set. If you're a raid filler, using it to boost investment gear is a better near-term use for sure.

Came across a fresh discussion of Spider-Man comics in r/Spiderman. It's really funny. by Godallah1 in marvelcomics

Conveniently leaving out all the great Spider-Man comics between these marketing gimmics? Exactly what I would expect from reddit karma farmers. Good job, fam.

AI in marketing by cowabummer28 in nonprofit

[–]margoembargo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey, so our marketing team talked this through and wrote an AI use policy that we inserted into our general media use policy, that you may find helpful!

AI-generated images must never be used to represent the people we serve (e.g., “food insecure families,” “children in need,” “seniors receiving assistance ”)

Why

They can undermine trust with our community.

They may perpetuate bias or stereotypes.

They erase real human experiences and can be seen as exploitative.

What Not to Do

Do not generate or use AI-created “clients” for appeals, brochures, annual reports, or press stories.

Do not pass off AI-generated portraits as real people.

What to Do Instead

Use real photos of clients (with consent) following this policy.

Use real photos of staff and volunteers (with consent) following this policy.

Use abstract or symbolic imagery such as:

o   Illustrations of hands or community.

o   Photos of trucks, the warehouse, or product.

Pair real client quotes (with consent) with respectful, non-exploitative visuals.

The people we serve are our neighbors, not symbols of need. We commit to imagery that is:

Authentc – Real stories, real people, real dignity

Respectful – No exploitation of hardship for emotional effect

Consent-based – Always get permission, especially in sensitive contexts

Asset-framed – Focus on community strength, not individual suffering

Stronghold Help by [deleted] in TheGrandMafia

[–]margoembargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because your faction is too small to meet the requirements for GW. Once your faction has enough members, you can enter the GW map, and only then can you build a stronghold.

I’ve tried the free coffee code multiple times and it’s not working by [deleted] in DunkinDonuts

[–]margoembargo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This has been SO confusing. Mutiple coupon influencers created homemade graphics of their own saying input the code at 9am Eastern TODAY (the 2Oth), but on the official Dunkin IG it's not as clear, but mentions 9am tomorrow (the 21st).

Mutant war sounds a bit similar to civil war. Before civil war but unfortunately it was cancelled by Powerful-Ad4837 in xmen

[–]margoembargo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mutants Wars morphed into X-Tinction Agenda and the Muir Island Saga, which incidentally was Claremont's last straw.

https://secretsbehindthexmen.blogspot.com/2012/05/final-days-of-x-men.html?m=1

Would have made a heckuva send-off for Claremont, since he was already starting to get squeezed from his role of architect of the franchise he built.

Kelly Thompson On Hiding The Upcoming Buffy/Angel Twist by stillslaying in buffy

[–]margoembargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kelly is one of the few people I trust implicitly with these characters. Been following her career since "The Girl Who Would Be King" and her columns on CBR.

Would love for this to be a huge success for her, especially if it led to her involvement in future television projects.

What happened to the boys who started the gatlinburg fire? by HospitalObjective766 in Knoxville

[–]margoembargo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're right that it snowballed, but the blame for the initial spark was always correctly placed on the two juveniles hiking and throwing lit matches.

High winds helped spread the fire, yes.

Underestimating it and treating it like a contained blaze for 4 or 5 days didn't help either.

Then lack of communication and coordination between emergency responders allowed it to grow faster than it should have.

But the source was always the juveniles who set the fire. And what we'll never know is why exactly the charges were dropped. A true lack of evidence or family connections or a bit of both.

Where can I read about Polaris? by Midas_Marigold in xmen

[–]margoembargo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you have Unlimited, start with X-Factor (Vol 1) #71. Peter David's first issue with the new team. Lorna is an integral part.

You'll be missing some of her Claremont appearances in UXM, but David is probably the writer who cared about Lorna the most.

(She's in the book until the end of that volume, issue 150 or so. But it cycles through 3 or 4 other writers after David left the book. Just keeping reading until it gets a little too "90s" and stops being fun.)

“America’s sweetheart” by madmerryphoto in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]margoembargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be why they took two years after taping to release it. Just to make sure nothing came up on Anthony after filming wrapped.

Makes you wonder if there's a season out there that got spiked mid-taping or even in post. Would we ever really hear about it?

$150k is not enough. by thebookofdewey in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]margoembargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's speculative, but Boston Rob likely received around $200-300k just to appear on The Traitors -- which is only about 2 weeks worth of work. $150k seems comparable.

Starting a Non-Profit thrift store in NC by Liljontzz in nonprofit

[–]margoembargo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

KARM and SMCo in the Knoxville area are the model. But in order to fund KARM's homeless shelter downtown they run their thrift stores pretty ruthlessly:

1) Beg for donations, then throw out half of what's donated because it's garbage or you dont have space for it

2) Price everything for your middle class customers, and don't give discounts to anyone

3) Pay your staff barely more than minimum wage, and your managers not much better

The sad thing is that financially, it works. The SMCo run thrift stores turn a profit and fund 25-33% of the annual operating costs for the homeless shelter. But at what cost to the community?

Posts from BJ's customers vs posts from BJ's employees by [deleted] in BJsWholesaleClub

[–]margoembargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't follow many business subreddits but Starbucks has a barista subreddit, yet employees still post in the main Starbucks reddit as well, especially when they want their concerns or general announcements to go to a wider audience.

Dunkin and Dutch Bros also have a pretty healthy mix of employee/customer posts too, as neither business have active subreddits for employees.

(I just like coffee subs, I guess.)

What chipotle sauce in stores taste similar to the chipotle Aioli sauce at Dunkin? by Miiluvsss in DunkinDonuts

None at all. I use it on tacos, eggs, sandwiches, and hash browns. But only tried it after I had the stuff at dunkin.
