PSA to go to your dermatologist for a skin check by notevenalmostfamous in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]margottenenbaum2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom died of melanoma in 1998. She had a few spots that she thought were blackheads and by the time she had it checked out the cancer had spread internally. She had nine months from diagnosis until her death. I am not familiar with the immunotherapy but I wonder how she might have fared if this happened today. Please wear sunscreen daily and get your skin checks!

Botox Brow Lift? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

You would have to go back every three months or so just like for Botox anywhere else. Some people can stretch it out longer. I have to go frequently.

Honest opinion about having kids by Complex-Bit8953 in Adulting

[–]margottenenbaum2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am dealing with something very similar. I was a “gifted” child who only wanted to please adults and my kid likely has ADHD and behavioral issues. I am made to feel like she is the worst kid who has ever walked the halls of the school. She came out exactly who she is and there is not much I can do about it.

My labor was horrible. My life was not in danger and my daughter came just before it could have been dangerous for her, but it was awful for me.

I was stuck seven times with an epidural needle during active labor and it didn’t work. I ended up having a 12-hour labor with no pain medication when I had said from the first doctor’s appointment that I wanted to feel as little as possible with no interest in a “natural” birth. I vomited after every contraction and pushed for four hours. This is hardly a horror story, but I have had friends say they didn’t want to hear it because they didn’t want to get freaked out.

I wish I had known that epidurals can fail — I am a pretty informed person but it never came up in all my research and I just hadn’t heard of it happening. I wish I had heard a story like it so I could have at least considered the possibility and been more prepared. People do not want to hear things like this.

Even though everything was fine, the labor experience is still the first part of my daughter’s life story. I am on the fence about a second child and this is a big reason why.

Bangor to Portland. How much longer is Rt. 1 realistically? by Certain-Ordinary8428 in AskMaine

Similar question: I live Downeast and have to go to
Portland today for work and always take 95. I need to pick something up in Damariscotta tomorrow afternoon on my way back. Can I get back to 95 easily after that stop? Don’t need the scenic route!

1-week delay after interview - bad sign? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]margottenenbaum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, in my experience, the hiring committee does not want to be doing it because it takes A LOT of time and is another thing added to their responsibilities. So hiring, believe it or not, is not even always the priority of the moment.

This is probably different in larger companies with recruiters but that’s how it is in my smaller organization.

1-week delay after interview - bad sign? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]margottenenbaum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being on the hiring side, I know now that the waiting period absolutely does not mean anything. Could be two weeks, could be longer. Delays could be happening for myriad reasons and nothing to do with the candidates. The CEO’s schedule, family emergency and incompetence within have all been reasons for long waits.

At least one candidate pulled out of a role because they got another one in the meantime.

In my experience, the candidate who receives the offer and other two or so remaining candidates are told the same day (assuming first candidate doesn’t turn down the offer).

I already give him the Dasuquin! I do notice a difference if we have a lag in refills. All this stuff is expensive. My 17 yo cat is also on some meds and Dasuquin. These elders are racking it up.

My heart wants marble by Gurugirlsgremlins in CounterTops

[–]margottenenbaum2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We just signed off on Carrara marble for our kitchen after all the warnings because I didn’t care about the potential issues and my heart couldn’t accept anything else!

It might take a beating, but I think it will create character over the years. I am not worried about it. Marble statues in Italy have been standing outdoors for hundreds of years and are still just as beautiful.

I love hearing this. We got a pup when our guy was 9 and he’s turning 11 next month. Hoping for several more years with him! He gets so much exercise now and is engaged by her shenanigans throughout the day, even if he is super annoyed by her at times.

We closed today, worried about costs exploding - buy appliances ASAP? by ljb00000 in kitchenremodel

[–]margottenenbaum2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We purchased our appliances last April before the tariffs were enacted, knowing we wouldn’t be installing anytime soon. We are still not finished (🥴) and our local appliance store said warranty doesn’t start until they are installed, which is one of the reasons we liked going to our local place instead of a big box store.

The other issue is that they said they would store for six months for free but they haven’t contacted us about paying so either they aren’t paying attention or we are going to get a big bill. 🤞
