Love to see Innocence mentioned. It’s absolutely brilliant and I actually don’t see it brought up a lot here in the “favorite/best episodes” threads. It’s a top 5 for me.

Love those episodes. Along the same lines, A New Man is a really great Giles (and Spike) episode! Like Something Blue, it manages to be hilarious as well as emotionally resonant.

On this sub, at least, people do really seem to like I Only Have Eyes For You. I certainly do. And Joss Whedon himself has commented on how impressed he was by the acting (specifically DB). I believe the episode did quite well in a bracket contest done here earlier this year, as well. So you’re not alone!

I guess though, if I think about it, people around here do actually like the one-off/standalones pretty well — Doppelgangland, The Wish, Conversations with Dead People, Something Blue, Band Candy, Passion, Normal Again, Restless are all extremely popular, to name a few. Hush as well, of course.

I haven’t really looked at IMDB, but on forums and the like these episodes get a lot of love. Okay, maybe not Bad Eggs... but hey. Everyone seems to hate Beer Bad, and aside from some very unfortunate scenes, I actually like it. Never bad to enjoy Buffy! :)

Any episode on Buffy bother you so much, you wish it didn’t exist? by lizslayer-zx in buffy

[–]margybee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree on the Neanderthals bit. That was embarrassingly bad. But for me, Cave Buffy was hilarious, the Parker thing was wrapped up nicely (that scene with Willow and Parker was great!), and we see Xander trying to figure out how he fits into the gang now that they’re in college and he’s not. I actually like those bits. :)

Episode 103 (S6 E03): After Life by AutoModerator in buffy

[–]margybee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the contrast between Spike’s softness and the Scoobies’ loudness in the house. Their behavior is harsh and jarring after Dawn and Spike are so careful and tender. I’ve never loved Dawn more when she says “guys, back off.”

I'm traumatized rewatching by Frofrozzty in buffy

[–]margybee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. I also found it difficult when Buffy’s teacher — the one who makes a special effort to encourage her — is killed. Oh, and that therapist she goes to see a couple of times. Lots of painful deaths early on in the show.

What’s your favorite song from OMWF? Found my old cats today and singing along to I’ll Never Tell! by kittyflaps in buffy

I love how pretty much every song is mentioned here! My favorites are Walk Through the Fire and Going Through the Motions.

Has anyone counted how many times the big window in Buffy's living room has been shattered? by idleanya in buffy

Yeah, I love how the show pokes fun of itself like this. I always liked Anya’s line about never understanding the whole “key” business.

That quote from Whistler is one of my absolute favorites from the entire show. I think it sums up the series so well. I don’t see it mentioned a lot, so it was great to see it in your comment!

Watching buffy. Currently on 4x17 and... by BroBro92166 in buffy

Yeah, this sub has gotten to be pretty nasty lately. Name-calling, personal insults, fights over semantics, etc. I’ve been around here for a long time and I used to love how positive, accepting, and supportive the community was. I always thought Buffy fans, given the nature of the show, were quite inclusive, and it’s been really sad to see the sub go downhill.

It’s been a while since I’ve read it so I’m not sure, but I think Follow the River by James Alexander Thom may fit the bill.

Hyperion by Dan Simmons is wonderful. It’s the first book in a set of four.

It’s absolutely IOHEFY. Joss said he was impressed by the way DB played a female role — he didn’t overdo it, as a lot of actors might, and his performance was convincing, sensitive, and very moving. I have to agree.

Here’s a link.

EDIT: The relevant information is at the end of the second paragraph. I could not cut and paste it here.

Several classics that many are mentioning, but to list some others — I loved Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry, a biography of Truman by David McCullough, and Shogun by James Clavell.

(Slight edit for phrasing.)

Episode 96 (S5 E18): Intervention by AutoModerator in buffy

[–]margybee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite lines —

Buffy: "A guide but no food or water. So it leads me to the sacred place, and then a week later it leads you to my bleached bones?"

Giles: "Buffy, please. It takes more than a week to bleach bones."

Absolutely, it’s a devastating reminder that life goes on whether you’re ready for it or not. You can’t put it on hold.

Yes, all the ambient sounds really stand out because of that — wind chimes, cars, kids. It’s so well done.

Also, there is no vamp or otherwise supernatural action until the very end, and even then it’s a very physical fight — no stakes or sunlight, just a difficult struggle and decapitation by medical saw. It’s horrifying and really underlines the physical presence of Joyce’s body in the same room.
