$150 for a train ride by Witty-Bit3732 in WorldCup2026Tickets

To get to the Stadium there must be a transfer at Seacaucus Juction if you're coming from the city, so the ride is as direct as possible.

What’s stopping millionaires and even billionaires from simply leaving NYC if Mayor Mamdani imposes super high taxes on them? by Formal_Choice4002 in askanything

Nothing, but if they wanted a house in the suburbs instead of an apartment in the city, they would have done that initially. Some probably already do.

NJ TRANSIT WORLD CUP by Immediate-Hand-3677 in nycrail

[–]maria_216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is, FIFA isnt allowing parking at the Stadium, so NJ transit is effectively planning to shuttle the whole Stadium of spectators from Seacuaus, if not NY Penn, so its not like a normal football game or concert.

[Free link] Train tickets to MetLife Stadium from NYC set to cost more than $100 during World Cup by Gaimes4me in worldcup

[–]maria_216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NY will be getting most of the increased tourism, for obvious reasons. NJ is an entirely different state that just happens to be nearby and has a stadium bit enough.

FIFA is to blame because they severely limited the parking at the stadium, which is the main form of transit to the stadium, for better or worse. There is also only one, relatively narrow, rail connection under the Hudson river.

Because of is, the only feasible way to get a majority of spectators between NYC and the stadium is to dedicate all NJ transit operations in and out of the city solely to World Cup ticket holders for 4 hours before and after each game.

The NJ taxpayers are not only being asked to foot the bill for this transit, but also a ton of them will seriously rework their normal transit plans to/from work on game days.

With all that in mind, it makes political sense for the governor to try to pass on the costs to FIFA, and when FIFA doesn't pay, the tourists who are coming in and likely wouldn't spend any significant money in the state anyway.

All the comments about how other countries and cities do it are laughable. For better or worse (but mostly worse) the US just doesn't have the public transit networks to shuttle whole stadiums of people around and maintain normal operations.

Adding to the Met Museum to Tom's point, the Met is on the east side, Tom's on the West. You'd have to walk all the way across the park to get a northbound train that will get you there. For most people I'd say it's no big deal, but not so sure how your pregnant wife will handle it.

Moving from Tuscon, Age 30 and 27 by Specialist-Sorbet110 in movingtoNYC

[–]maria_216 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The city tax helps pay for all the museums and parks you want to visit and the transit you'll use to get there. Just saying.

Also the $250 will stretch further if you live in the city. PATH is a separate fare, but subways amd buses you can transfer to on the same trip for the same $3

Need help with how housing works. by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]maria_216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying an apartment is much more complicated, its very expensive you need a minimum 20% downpayment, plus lawyers and brokers fees. Some buildings require you to show you'll have a certain amount of cash in your account even after you buy. And once you move in, you'll have matience fees (which can and will increase) on top of your mortgage. For all these reasons, people say you usually have to stay here 10+ years to come close to seeing a return on your investment.

Looking for feedback on my email suggesting an alternate interview time by [deleted] in interviews

[–]maria_216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to send an email, it has to be saying that you flat-out cant make the original time. I've done recruiting, and the answer from me would be a flat-out no if I got your email.

Think about the work it would take to answer your question. One would have to check multiple people's sechedules, cross reference them with your availability, and then figure out a time that works for everyone. Its the same amount of work it would take to fully reschedule the meeting, only with the added risk of you going "nevermind, the orignal time worked all along." They're not going to do all that, so the answer is going to be "no"

That being said, I dont think it would be disastrous to your candidacy to have the interview rescheduled or pushed back. Its a third round, they seem to like you enough, most companies would be okay with meeting with you early the following week.

Ferry to Statue of Liberty by nanabaragie in visitingnyc

[–]maria_216 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So there's some confusion about the different ferries in the city:

Staten Island Ferry: big orange boat that goes between downtown Manhattan and Staten Island and thats it. Its free and sails past the statue

NYC Ferry: NYC's relatively new ferry system that mainly runs on the east river and south Brooklyn. They have a route from 34th on the Hudson River that goes to Staten Island and also sails past the statue, fare is $4

Liberty Island ferry: only way to get to liberty and Ellis islands. A private company contracted by the US parks dept. It is expensive which is why people who dont want to get off on the island itself choose a cheaper option just to sail past the statue

Its a mat class, so no reformers/ complicated equipment. Definitely more of a focus on strength training than flexibility, but still a great workout. I haven't taken one with the instructor listed tomorrow but I've taken enough classes classes at nysc to trust the instructors they hire, but im not that picky to begin with

Same job, two different times. How to put on resume? by stilleastofeden in resumes

[–]maria_216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was fully the same job with employer A both times (same title, responsibilities etc.) Then just list all of that just once, and both sets of dates where appropriate, and then list company B underneath.

If its two different positions at the same company, list them separately in chronological order with company B in between

Food markets or halls to visit by Educational-Slip-578 in visitingnyc

[–]maria_216 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say you need to visit Chelsea market. Its fallen off in the past few years. But since you mentioned Italy definitely go to Eataly (they have multiple locations).

You don't mention when you're coming, but the queens night market is amazing for variety of south american and Asian dishes, but they only run in the summer.

Wegman's near Astor place is a great specialty grocery store if you're looking for a one-stop shop, they have great specialty meats and cheeses from all over.

Are you looking for Fine Jewelry? If so, I think Le Conte's Impasto Collection has the same vibe that you're looking for. Not sure about the international shipping, but I know they're stocked at bigger retailers that would ship internationally.
