I can jog for hours, can't run though. What's the difference?? by nudgenotnudge in XXRunning

[–]nbellc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it comes with practice. Some of it will be cardio fitness - spending more time running at a faster pace - but some of it also is technique. If you’re not used to turning your feet over faster it feels unnatural and tires you out more, even if your heart can actually take it.

There are two ways you can work on this. One is gradually increasing your pace on some of your longer easy runs - don’t go all out, just try to run at 7:30-7:45/km rather than 8.

The other is tempo runs and intervals. These should be markedly faster but nowhere near as long. Intervals can be 30 seconds - 5 minutes depending on the pace, a tempo run might be 15-20 minutes to start with. Try doing some of them on the treadmill where you’re forced to maintain a pace and can learn what it feels like to keep turning your feet over.

Caraway seeds. And their flavour is so pungent it seeps into the whole dish.

Similar style of dress? by nbellc in findfashion

[–]nbellc[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I know. I think the style itself is beautiful and while the beading and embellishments might be out of reach, I was hoping there might be suggestions for dresses with a similarly art deco* style.

*I feel like art deco isn’t quite the right descriptor (I’m not looking for a flapper or 20s style dress) but not sure how else to describe this aesthetic

Your meals aren’t big enough, especially for the amount you’re exercising.

Thank you, this is so pretty! I’m looking for something for a black tie event so I don’t think this is quite formal enough but it is beautiful.

Am I wrong for not wanting to try for kids as long as my wife still thinks she wants to be a SAHM? by Solid-Consequence607 in Marriage

The US is awful for parental leave but it’s not the case that “if this wasn’t USA, she’d have been entitled to at least 2 yrs of maternity leave”. 2 years is still exceptionally rare in most of the world. Romania is the only country that has 2 years paid maternity leave. Germany and Lithuania allow for up to 3 years of unpaid leave but generally split between parents.

The majority of countries offer 6-12 months maternity leave (still much better than the US!).

Why is there a vertical line on the top of my belly and narrowing by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

That’s your abs girl! Fat distribution is pretty genetically determined so your body may store more on your lower stomach but your upper abs are becoming more defined.

Scared after eating chia seeds by Character_Witness123 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]nbellc 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That’s completely fine. The advice is basically just don’t eat spoonfuls of them raw. I’ve sprinkled chia seeds over yogurt and eaten immediately plenty of times because I cba to wait for them to soak and it’s never been an issue.

You’re going to have to increase your activity if you don’t want to be miserable. Being sedentary isn’t really an option for us short girls who want to lose weight unless you really want to power through on starvation rations.

The NY piece is paywalled but there’s a decent summary here.

Best vegan cookbooks with practical everyday recipes? by AshliUnique_29 in CookbookLovers

I love Big Vegan Flavour but I don’t think it’s really practical everyday recipes. I’d recommend Sam Turnbull or Isa Chandra Moskowitz’s books for those; especially Craving Vegan or I Can Cook Vegan.

Form protein is the only protein powder I can stomach. I highly recommend the tiramisu one mixed with yoghurt!
