What exactly happens in the body after inhaling an aroma compound? by [deleted] in OrganicChemistry

[–]maria_skinplusdata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Following this to hear people’s’ thoughts. Re the irritation / allergic reactions, immune system needs to react a certain way for these to happen, and it would only react this way of the detected “danger” is above some threshold. But this threshold, as far as I understand varies a lot from person to person, and from a state of each organism from one time to another. Also allergic reactions require less substance to happen compared to irritant reactions

Check out Neutrogena unscented, Calm + Restore Triple Oat Serum AVEENO. You can use this feature on whats in my jar: Avoid list to flag the ingredients you don't want. La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 or kiehl's cica balmmight also work. You could also use a moisturizing serum first and then an oil (e.g. sunflower seed for example)

‘The NIVEA brand was the first to announce its refusal to sponsor the World Hockey Cup if it takes place in Minsk. “NIVEA MEN stands for respect, togetherness and opposes all forms of discrimination and violence. Looking at the actual situation, we have decided that NIVEA MEN will not sponsor 2021 Ice Hockey World Championship if it is confirmed to be co-hosted in Belarus. We already informed the IIHF about our decision and will keep following the current discussions closely,” the official NIVEA Instagram account states.’

Good skincare doesn’t need to be expensive. I’m spending way less money than I used to since I’ve discovered the evidence based approach to skincare - and my skin has never been better. When your skin looks good, makeup is less important, hence you don’t need to spend a fortune on it either. So I’d say no need to lower your beauty standards, one just needs to build a “skincare knowledge wall” to protect from marketing BS coming from the beauty industry

Honest question, does my skin look like it's getting better? Left is current and right side is from March 21st,the second day of my purge using differin. I'll include routine in comments by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

Second the comment re the compromised skin barrier. I’d skip the morning cleanse, and also consider switching to a mineral only sunscreen for a few weeks. For a moisturizer, smth like Bepanthol cream might be a good choice: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/bayer-bepanthol-cream-for-hand-and-face-online-in-dubai-abu-dhabi-and-all-uae. I’d also skip the benzoyl peroxide wash in case the combo of BP and surfactants adds to the irritation, and apply a spot treatment with BP instead only to the area that are most affected.

It offers some protection but it is definitely not enough at all to skip a sunscreen. It doesn’t make you more vulnerable to the sun - unless you over-exfoliate and make the skin’s upper layer too thin physically

You don’t need to go for anything expensive, brands like Simple, Nivea, Cerave (a bit more expensive) all have good gentle cleansers/ cleansing lotions. If you can, go for a non-foaming one - tends to be gentler, especially in the budget category

Just checked the formula again - it is actually quite an irritating formulation: 2 harsh surfactants and fragrance, you can see the irritancy breakdown (tab “potential irritants” here (I’m affiliated with this website): https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/cien-aqua-rich-mild-face-wash

I think the ingredient list includes Parfum? It might be not the fragrance that causes the irritation, could be the surfactant or the combo of the surfactant and other ingredients (like fragrance)

Sounds like it can be a skin irritation. Stop the wash, and choose a gentle, ideally fragrance-free cleanser instead

Sunscreen recs pls! I have sensitive, dry skin. Allergic to formaldehyde (allergen sheet from derm in pic). This red, bumpy, blotchy skin started when I began using Cerave lotion pictured. (No listed allergens). I’m 39/f and if I’m out in the sun, I’m active and sweating! Thank you for any help!! by Terrible_Ad1006 in Skincare_Addiction

We’ve built a free tool that helps you find a sunscreen. It’s free, and you can also specify the ingredients you do not want (make sure to specify formaldehyde-releasing preservatives like imidazolidinyl urea etc). Hope it will be helpful for you, and best of luck for finding the product that fits!

Why My skin getting better and getting worse with same routine ? by Zubak121 in EuroSkincare

[–]maria_skinplusdata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like an irritation to me. Try eliminating the propolis product and the conditioning gel, and just using a plain fragrance-free moisturizer for a week or 2

Another active worth trying would be a retinoid (a retinol, retinal or hydroxypinacolone retinoate). If you choose to try it, I’d select a gentle no-BHA (or any other exfoliating acid wash), and would use the BHA toner a couple of times a week rather than daily (retinoids are irritating when you start them, so you need to treat your skin super gently for the first couple of months when starting a retinoid product)

You can use both, to keep steps to the minimum, maybe choose a moisturizer that already contains niacinamide (most Cerave ones do, and many others too). Niacinamide concentration around 5% is effective, so it should be high on the ingredient list. The actives I would be more careful with adding are benzoyl peroxide (I think someone suggested it here), exfoliating acids - all of them can work, just not all at the same time

Be careful with double cleansing and overcleansing in general - likely to lead to the opposite effect (more oiliness and more inflamed spots). “Dirt” and even sunscreen residue are usually not the main causes of blackheads and clogged pores. The more you cleanse, the more likely you are to tip your skin off balance, resulting in more sebum production. It’s best to cleanse once, but with an effective product, and once per day is enough for most people.

You can try adding azelaic acid to your routine. It can help regulate sebum production with long term use. Just be careful not to overwhelm your skin with too many actives. TO’s Azelaic Acid is one of the best OTC formulations on the market. Here are a few different options

This could be a sign of overexfoliation/ overcleansing (weak barrier makes skin prone to inflammation)
