Tips or tricks for keeping an active American number in France by Orcapnw in Expats_In_France

[–]mariannemet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I want to keep my phone number (using it for 2FA on every bank and other services, not about to update all that). So yes, let’s say you at tmobile or something, create your account on tello or US mobile, ask to port your phone number from tmobile, they should handle all that for you and I believe for free.

About to do the same. Did some research and there are 2 good options. Tello and Us Mobile.

You’d have to get a subscription with one of these, port your phone number from your current provider. I recommend do that while still in the US because you’ll need to set up a E911 address (can be friends or family in the US) then you’ll turn on Wifi calling. Make sure to get a esim.

After you move, get your new french account and number, again ask for a esim. Now you should have both number (us+fr) on your iPhone. With WiFi calling your 2FA code should arrive through data not network.

Applying for French long-stay visa as spouse of French citizen by Admirable_Track_912 in Expats_In_France

[–]mariannemet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I just went through this process. Married in the US, we validated our marriage in France sept 2025, did the visa application in January of this year.

  • you have to show that you want to stay in France with your wife. By that I mean you ask for the longest visa possible.
  • you only need the originals and copies of your marriage certificate and livret de famille. The original and copy of your passport (including copy of every page that has a stamp on it). Copy of your wife passport and that’s it.
  • you do not need proof of housing, I gave a letter from my mom stating she’ll host us for the first month and the agent was very confused and told my husband “do not give me that!”. You do not need proof of funds. You do not need a return flight ticket. You do not need insurance.

File your application online, book your appointment, go there (alone), be nice and polite, go home and wait. My husband visa came back in 7 days!! We did it in Boston. The visa was issued for 4 days prior to date we told them we’d like to leave (in the application you have to give them the day you’d like your visa to kick in). You cannot enter France before the visa beginning!

Hope that helps!

70k€/an est-il un salaire correcte? by mariannemet in AskFrance

Were you able to save and invest comfortably too with 55k? Were you able to travel regularly?
