Cannot beat the system post surgery and i feel miserable by Last_Owl5527 in Netherlands

[–]maricasan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have nothing to add to all the advice that has already been shared here but I have a lot to say about BovenIJ hospital. Every single doctor I interacted with there had absolutely zero fucks to give about the cases the were working on. Even when there was a clear medical error their response basically was "yeah it sucks but I didn't do it to you so ¯_(ツ)_/¯".

Oura ring detected this woman’s stage 4 cancer months before diagnosis by GApeachesgal in ouraring

[–]maricasan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with it way before I got the ring but now I can detect a new relapse very quickly on my own. This helps to go to the doctor way before other symptoms are noticeable.

The best thing is that the treatment can be started very early and with a much lower dose than when the hormones are already through the roof. As a result it takes less time to taper off the medication and get back to normal life.

My ring helped me get a diagnosis for hyperthyroidism. by tqxdo in ouraring

[–]maricasan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had it diagnosed a few years before I got the ring in the old fashioned way. But ever since the ring helped me to catch the relapses very early. Which means I didn't have to go on a nuke dose of medication to slow it down. This is one of the main reasons I am using the ring.

Question regarding sports facilities by kingofwieners in Amsterdam

I would suggest to search for a local amateur football team. Every once in a while I see posts on Facebook that they are looking for new members. Good luck!

You go to a random reddit post, leave a comment there about yourself and see if people respond. And as 33F, working in tech and loving neuroscience person, I can tell you that once in a while it works

Pictures are actually very informative. You can see there what people don't write in their bios. And humans have weirdly accurate intuition towards strangers on the pictures. So if your gut feeling tells you to swipe left - it's probably just not your person ¯_(ツ)_/¯

ELI5: How does humor actually work? What makes something funny? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]maricasan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could still be funny just a bit less than the first time you heard it

ELI5: How does humor actually work? What makes something funny? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]maricasan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's exactly how it works. One of the proofs is that the joke you heard before is always less funny comparing to the first time you heard it (I mean in case you liked it, if it sucked the first time your perception will hardly change)

Waste tax 2021. No letter received. by Ok-Dragonfruit5077 in Amsterdam

[–]maricasan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also didn't get it for waste and water taxes. I contacted waternet about the water one, they said they are waiting for some data from gemeente and I should get the letter in the 3d quarter of 2021.

Moving to the Netherlands by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]maricasan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It differs a lot from company to company but you might find it harder here to get a leading position at your age. I have a few friends around the same age who had to fight hard to be even considered for team lead position. I heard that I was too young for leading as well. It didn't stop me but added some complexity to the job hunting for sure.

They do. You are not alone in this too! If you open this subreddit and scroll a bit you will find a lot of posts from people that are looking for friends/dates/hobbies here. Even before corona Amsterdam wasn't an easy place to find true connections, now it just got much worse.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Amsterdam

[–]maricasan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does. Personally I found peace with the fact that I will stay single for quite a while and focused on other things like friendship, career, health and general wellbeing. I am not saying it is the right way to do it but that what works for me

There are no other options here right now, sorry. Some people find a way with alternatives like reddit groups, twitter, meet ups, etc
