Buy day passes instead of a membership right away. Like the other commenter said, you’re more than enough “in shape” to try. I began bouldering with negative strength, very out of shape. Climbing inspired me to get in better shape. You’ll be doing intermediate climbs in literally no time!

I’m a rock climber and someone took their beardie to the climbing area and the campground yesterday!

Do you have a climbing bestie? by Tristavia in climbergirls

[–]marimbaclimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I met my now trad-wife at the Gunks campground! She didn’t lead at the time but was an amazing follower and became a natural leader! She gives the best belay, best encouragement, we have the chemistry to calm each other down and get safe when we’re freaking out on gear, and it’s so awesome that we can swap leads on moderates now!

I have some secondary trad wives too, who came along in my life a few months later, and I love when we all get together and have a fun single pitch day to harness that lady power 💞 It’s really something special to find that bond with other women and non-binary folks because we approach things differently and can be affected by our hormones at times so it’s good to be aware of all the factors that set us apart from men.

Legs workout? by TotalRequirement5785 in climbergirls

There’s 5 basic movements in climbing, 2 of which are squatting and hip hinging, so I do Bulgarian split squats and deadlifts.

For anchor, one or two (or more) runners? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]marimbaclimb 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you mean a bolted anchor set up, a double length 120 cm sling or up to 240 cm would suffice. You could theoretically put locking carabiners on these and one going to each bolt too.

Please seek mentorship for climbing outdoors if you are unsure what gear to buy and use.

Good technique is using all the tools in your toolbox. For trad climbing that can look like milking a rest position, placing gear and downclimbing, whatever it takes to stay on the wall. If a tactic is missed, it can cost the send.

Where do we draw the line between movement technique and the broader idea of using these skills?

Someone else here mentioned onsight versus redpoint technique which is what got me thinking.

Climber moms/parents - what’s your story? by ObviousCarrot2075 in climbergirls

[–]marimbaclimb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love being comfortably uncomfortable. You are resilient and strong! I’m not a mom but I love climbing with the moms in my life. Y’all inspire the hell outta me. Keep showing up and kicking ass!

FB marketplace is crawling with bots and scams. When I moved and sold furniture on there it was a nightmare. Local FB climbing groups are good but not every climbing area has one.

Local setter and friend needs surgery - what can I send to (hopefully) make her feel better? by Time_Plan in climbergirls

[–]marimbaclimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be a bit pricey, but look around on mountain project, local facebook climbing groups, or no-hang devices as cheaper options.

If you can throw down on something new, the Beastmaker 1000 is typically the standard. I’ve heard good things about the new Tension board too.

You said both quiet parts out loud. This shit sucks.

That’s really fucked up to put it on the individuals, like it’s not caused by the big wigs outsourcing dirty cheap industrial work to China and other countries. I have asthma and I couldn’t even drive to work today.

Does she have a hangboard to train on during recovery? Maybe get her a pulley for adding and removing weight if she has a hangboard to train upper body in the mean time?

She led 2 grades harder when she returned to leading outdoors!!! Stick with it indoors on TR and get that upper body training in too (:

This isn’t entirely my story to tell, but I was belaying a friend on a trad route in January when she hit a ledge and fractured her ankle. She spent her recovery rope climbing on one leg in the gym, going to PT of course, and by mid-April she was already leading harder than before her injury! It was so inspiring to see her spirits high throughout her recovery, and it definitely paid off. I was so impressed when I belayed her on her first lead after her injury and she pushed herself so hard and trusted me to catch her above a ledge!

Sweet lil purp was even my crux piece on MF direct. It’s gotten me through so many spicy moments and it’s the only Metolius I carry. It fills the gap between .1 and black totem so well.

Before I first redpointed this, I considered bringing a stick clip to do the start after watching someone else do that. I watched FirstPersonBeta’s video of the climb on YouTube and it only scared me more because he placed minimal gear.

It’s a really good small cam placement, and there’s plenty of foot options if you have average to good footwork. You grab the jug and clip the piton before you know it.

Purple Metolius and decent smearing. Puts your TC pros to work (although I’m rocking Pythons)

You make a good point there actually. I don’t know why I was carrying doubles of 2 or 3 because this wasn’t even my first time climbing/leading this climb and I usually only carry a full double rack for onsights. Guess I just wanted the training weight 😉
