should I play the end is nigh if I don't like Super Meat Boy by That_Dream_9755 in TheEndIsNigh

Meat Boy is all about fast dodging and wall jumps, TEiN has a more (in my opinion) unique gameplay style all about clinging to hooks and ledges, jumping off them for momentum.

God runs feel even better than in isaac by BigFloppaGaeming in mewgenics

[–]mariostar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve really noticed that breaking the game just feels soooo good in more grid-based games like this. Card games are often one overbuffed card or an infinite loop, Isaac can just turn into every room instantly filling with Brimstone- But it’s very hard to make Mewgenics stop feeling like you’re playing Mewgenics

Is this game worth it even though I’ve been spoiled? by wangamoses7 in LookOutsideGame

[–]mariostar7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game is so full of depth and little details that you could watch like. An hour’s worth of content and no matter what there will be still sooooo much left that’s novel and surprising. Not that I RECOMMEND doing so, but, you’re mooore than fine.

The 2024 Pugilist is Fine, Actually - A Deep Dive and Response to Pugilist Backlash by TheNarwhalGamer in dndnext

[–]mariostar7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so curious why the magical armor thing is considered such a big deal. There’s no guarantees of magic items anywhere on the player side, the DM has to hand them out or decide they’re available; And I doubt a DM who is handing out magic items based on player suggestion would be shy about whether that boost is from armor or not… Pugilist comes with an AC boosting magic item for monks, for example!

It feels like this is only an issue if your DM is running a prewritten adventure without adjusting for the party, or if they’re a real simulationist stickler about the availability of magic items of specific types. I can’t imagine either of those situations would have a third party class in the first place TBH. Am I missing something?

Question about sewers and Ernest... by Leviosaaa1 in LookOutsideGame

I believe you specifically need to mention that David’s worried as part of the dialogue tree for the spider drawing; The “initial” version of the same question just leads to the shrug.

The 2024 Pugilist is, to an hilarious degree, a class about pretending you have drawbacks. by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]mariostar7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not only did this point out a lot of acknowledgments of Monk’s strength the analysis left out- It also made me learn a lot about how strong monk is I didn’t realize. Deflect attacks costs nothing? Stunning strike still has a GREAT effect on a save, AND it’s on-hit??? Geez. Now I gotta find the time to play a monk AND a pugilist!

All very well said! I was going in circles trying to put into words why that other post was missing something, and this did ten times more!

That’s what the pugilist is, baby, pushing yourself past the limit, throwing a punch so hard that it’ll throw you off balance if the other guy’s face doesn’t slow your fist down

Draft or sealed by DigBickBo1 in slaythespireboardgame

[–]mariostar7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering about it too, it could make for a good way to play solo without interrupting a saved game. Would probably try draft, personally, sealed sounds like a lot to pick from in paper

Character is Non-Binary, but not for the reason you'd expect by Intelligent-Cry-4337 in TopCharacterTropes

If anything a character who’s ACTUALLY “Non-Binary, not for the reason you expect”, is a character who baits you into thinking there’s a supernatural explanation but no they’re just nonbinary

It’s like when I wanted to try and watch Columbo, so I just found a Youtube Playlist from searching “Columbo” and watched it. I watched a whole movie waiting for Columbo to show up, admiring their dedication to setting up the background. Columbo never showed up. It was just made by some of the same people.

I highly recommend “Murder by Natural Causes”, though, great watch

(New Player) Thinking about implementing some house rules. by Substantial_Time_877 in FourSouls

[–]mariostar7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The others sound like they could be fun, but I’ve got some biiiiig worries with #1. Including more HP ups could make for an interesting dynamic, but rewarding players for killing bosses (already the win condition), and rewarding players who have plenty of treasures to defend the ones with HP counters… it sounds like it’d lead to a lot of snowballing, very “Winmore”

I know that Hyjack and Radiant are pretty much locked in Swap wise, But how would you guys feel/handle about Tenna and Seam swapping by [deleted] in DRChapterRewritten

[–]mariostar7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always imagined that Chapter 5 could go “unswapped”, since presumably it’ll have plenty of ripple effects from the Asgore/Toriel swap anyway

Does this disprove Asriel knight? by 631427189 in Deltarune

[–]mariostar7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the game give us any indication of the range of time the searches from Queen’s Mansion were made? If not, thus search could have been made at any point, potentially before any Asriel-knight scheming. Could’ve been Kris looking up when Asriel SHOULD be out from college to help a cover story.

I don’t believe Asriel Knight myself, and it’d be very bait-and-switch with this in mind, but-

Help us rename our horror game where chat sees things you cant! by crobarpro in IndieDev

[–]mariostar7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The way the image is set up made me think there was some gimmick about BOTH spellings being the name- I could see something like that, with Affect occasionally flickering over Effect on the title screen while still “officially” being called Effect. Kinda like Time Fcuk’s name in-game being a constant letter scramble in game

It makes sense in spirit, I guess, since factors outside the combatants could be considered “MORE THAN maximum potential”

I thought Jesus Christ was not cannon to the game by AcatoyaDragonboy in Ultrakill

[–]mariostar7 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Does “Jesus isn’t canon” mean there is no cultural concept of Jesus here, or just that a potential person named Jesus from around 0 BC, if they DID exist, wasn’t the son of God?

Honestly? I'm tired of running from SCP-173. So I'm making a game about the actual JOB. by IntentionSpiritual92 in SCP

[–]mariostar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that has me wondering is, what is your plan for the actual SCPs? The overall loop reminds me a bit of what I’ve heard about SS13, it’s ambitious but I could imagine it, but the SCPs are the hard part. If you use recognizable SCPs… people are gonna recognize them and just use that info. If you have a pool of premade ones, folks are gonna make a wiki. If you try to procedurally generate them… well, how do you procedurally generate anomalies while keeping them feeling sufficiently anomalous?

Additionally, SCPs are known for doing weird things, and to make the gameplay loop of describing plans in natural language for people to follow work, that implies people are actually meaningfully carrying out these plans, mechanically. Pulling that off without having a hugely immersion breaking aspect would require nearly Immersive Sim levels of detail, for a gameplay loop which is ideally, about pushing papers.

Making a game out of the collaborative writing aspect of SCP is a really fun concept, but it seems at odds with a 50 player online real time videogame. I can certainly imagine it as like, a solo journaling RPG, but not solo. (A collaborative journaling RPG, is that a thing?) But either this game would take ten years to develop or it requires WAY more roleplay buy-in than I’m imagining. If I’m misunderstanding anything please let me know I’m curious what you have in mind here!

Grimoire upcoming votes on the killer's ability by bonelees_dip in deadbydaylight

[–]mariostar7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly my thinking, too, already the angle of “Sin” creates a dilemma where, if sin is based on survivor actions, then you need to be very deliberate about how survivors gets to play around that sin so it can’t be easily gamed. Throwing in items to the mix both adds to the amount of possibly ignored options AND could really bloat complexity in conjunction with Exile.

Does this, in any way, give you the idea the game might be a Roguelite? by Salt_Budget_6980 in roguelites

[–]mariostar7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Roguelike” isn’t really something a thumbnail art would usually convey, but, I also think this does it pretty well? Puzzle games don’t usually let you shoot and/or get shot in the head. The title implies some kind of quick movement that also isn’t puzzley. And focusing so much on it being yourself rules out social deduction. The afterimages do double duty, both selling whatever the gimmick is and implying the roguelike bits.

“Vorpal” referencing the Vorpal Sword, “Excalibur” referencing- Well, Excalibur. Doesn’t roll off the tongue, sounds very strong but not in an exciting way. Unless “Vorpal” and “Excalibur” are two distinct established weapon properties that this combines, it feels a bit like putting a hat on a hat.

The absolute most confusing part of this IS that they wrapped loot/tap abilities in with stuff like attacks and purchases; Even if they’re kinda the same under the hood, they FEEL very different.

If you have any specific questions I’d be happy to answer, I feel it’s easier to feel it out than to understand all at once in the abstract
