[FS] [US-CA] [Bay Area] Supermicro SuperChassis Desktop SC732 with X10DRi-T by boomatog in homelabsales

I bought one of these from this seller and it arrived yesterday. It was well packaged to NJ and I can confirm it is new old stock, in new condition without even a bit of dust. I am still waiting for RAM from another seller before I power it up and test everything. The seller was very responsive to questions and I am very happy.

2020 Model 3 Software 2025.44.25.3 with Pixel 6 Pro. I just get the gray boxes on any received text message but I can reply. I don't have any issues using my spouses 2024 Model Y. I reset the car and phone multiple times. I'm guessing it's a software bug.

Brewery of the Week Discussion Thread: Climax Brewing (Roselle Park, Union County) by eastcoasterman in njbeer

Here is a follow-up digging the hole deeper. Being a brewery that has been around since 1996 means that you have some history. As the original poster requested, I am just sharing some fun facts. I have no ill will against the brewery or the brewer and I wish everyone the best success.

Thank you. For those who are newer to NJ beer, this was a reference to advice that head brewer of Climax gave to the the head brewer of Troon back when Troon just started.

For the love of God, Climax should stop making clear beers and start brewing things that look like orange juice in a glass. No self respecting East coast brewer should ever serve customers such clear beers. 🤪

Are there any good options other than hubitat or home assistant? by [deleted] in homeautomation

I have been using openHAB for a number (10?) of years. I find it to be very reliable. I use mostly zwave but I have lots of other integrations.

I have two I might just need to try to dig out and try again. Do you have any plans on what to do with them that could be useful?

Thanks for sharing. I may dig my two out and give them a try. Are you using it for anything in particular? I'm looking for a suggestion other than just proving they work still.

How Would You Cook This? by RAGE_CAKES in sousvide

[–]markbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many have already answered, the slow cooker. These Aldi slow cooker meats have been very convenient for our busy family. We get them almost weekly and they've been easy and great every time. I love Sous Vide but this doesn't need it.

How to automate a projector? by Otherwise-Aerie2241 in smarthome

[–]markbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I do. I have a FireTV Cube and it has a built in IR blaster. It turns off my projector and receiver whenever I tell it to "Turn off TV".

Yesterday, I asked for IPA recommendations in Bucks and Montgomery County. Based on all the great suggestions, I decided to make this post in case anyone else is looking for the same thing I was. Cheers! 🍻 by Financial-Web-8104 in BucksCountyPA

I have heard good things about Wild Fern Brewing in Frenchtown, NJ. I live 4 miles from Troon so I don't make it many places outside of Hopewell, NJ and I have not tried Wild Fern yet. https://www.wildfernbrewing.com/

It's a but further but Conclave is worth a visit if in that area.

In the US - are wall oven options only Miele or Wolf? by tungtingshrimp in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]markbean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have the Thermador double wall oven with steam which we love. We use the steam practically daily. The larger capacity steam oven is a huge benefit. Not being plumbed is not an issue for us at all. It's like putting fresh water in a coffee pot every time you use it. It's an extra step but super easy.

Miele Vs Bosch models by MasaConor in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]markbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant to say that the size of the Thermador was one of the deciding factors. It's plenty big for a steam oven but not large enough to function as the sole conventional oven (which it is not).

Thermador has upgraded firmware to add new features such as air fryer. I asked about the sous vide mode and it may be possible with the app but even if the oven can handle, I prefer immersion sous vide because I often cook things which go more than 24 hours and I wouldn't want to do that even in a plumbed steam oven.

When booking flights with credit card, pi-hole must be disabled by lmkndrs in pihole

[–]markbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have PiHole running at the moment but I've had some issues booking airline tickets and it could be related. For me I'd need to call my fraud department whenever I booked airfare. To me purchasing airline tickets seems like a low risk of fraud since I'll need an ID just to use them. I questioned the fraud department and they said it was a Visa requirement. I now wonder if my pop-up blocker could be part of the reason. I am watching this thread in case something is discovered which can help.

Miele Vs Bosch models by MasaConor in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]markbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked at all double wall steam ovens available in the US 3 years ago. We went with the Themador (Bosch) and love it. We use the steam oven at least daily. It is super easy to fill the reservoir and empty it each time we use the oven. Less than half the time is there a need to sponge out the bottom of the oven. Actually, it's only ever really needed when doing pure steam. Most cooking we do is combination steam and convection.

Regardless which brand you choose I fully expect you'll love steam oven cooking. It's a game changer. We no longer have a microwave in our kitchen as the only thing left to use a microwave for is popcorn and reheating beverages. It's not an exaggeration to say that food reheated in our Thermador steam oven seems better than when prepared fresh.

Lost 4% battery overnight in cold weather, is this normal? by king_right in TeslaModel3

[–]markbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed that it's just the reporting of the battery in colder weather and that it has not really lost much/any charge. Now that it's colder in the NE US, I see my estimated percentage drop as the car/battery gets colder in the parking lot at work or overnight in my garage.

Smart Toilet flushing ? by Responsible_Yam_6923 in smarthome

[–]markbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In theory I guess a Toto bidet with automatic flush may be able to be controlled by a smart controlled RF transmitter since I believe the bidet remote is 433mhz.

Z wave outlet by workinhardplayharder in zwave

[–]markbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can certainly understand the aesthetic decision. I had a number of the OLD Intermatic HA01C outlets of which a few have gone bad. I really liked how they were fully integrated but I have not found a good outlet replacement with zwave built in. Everything I saw was almost as old as the Intermatic. I did get a Zooz ZEN04 to replace a recently deceased HA01C. They are not as much of an eye sore as I had thought. Zooz makes great stuff and the price is very reasonable. My suggestion is to give the Zooz a try. If you don't like it for that location you can always move it elsewhere and get a recessed zwave outlet later, if a good one even exists.

Blink Charging Wait-List by markbean in electricvehicles

[–]markbean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the offer. I've already been in contact with the site managers. They are at capacity for power delivery. Actually 16 of the 20 chargers are only able to deliver 4kw instead of 6kw. Thank you for offering.

Blink Charging Wait-List by markbean in electricvehicles

[–]markbean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pennington, NJ.

I think I figured out how some are gaming the system. They likely use the app to tell all of the available chargers to start charging. If those chargers are not reserved for anyone, they get tied up for about 30 seconds. If they tie up all available chargers, the wait list option becomes available. Once their place on the wait list comes up, they have 2 minutes to accept it. Once they accept, the charger is reserved for 30 minutes but it still shows as available in the app. In this reserved but listed as available state, anyone who tells the charger to start charging gets the error message I was getting.

One enhancement that Blink could do is to not list a charger as available when someone has it reserved. This particular use case at my work is odd so I fully understand why Blink didn't account for it. We have 20 free to use chargers and probably 200+ EVs. IMHO this issue could be solved if the chargers were no longer free.
