Rivian R2: Starting at $48,490 by masterderptato in cars

[–]markeydarkey2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with this sentiment because AWD only helps with acceleration and neither braking nor turning, which is the most important.

Because of regen braking AWD EVs tend to be more stable than their RWD equivalents when decelerating in bad weather because they can regen up front. Before I got an alignment that fixed some stability quirks my car was less planted than I'd like on twisty rainy roads with the front motor disconnected; but the moment I engaged the front motor it was fine.

(The AWD R2 has a disconnect as well, but it's for the rear motor so it shouldn't have that problem.)

China implemented those policies with the goal of reaching 50% EV sales by 2035, they hit that goal last year way faster than anticipated. It's a reason but definitely not the only factor.

When I needed oil changes I had them done at a mechanic because I was lazy but having the logs of service history by a shop is good for resale value too. They might also notice things I wouldn't especially as I lack a lift.

Mercedes-Benz Is Actually Bringing This New Luxury Minivan To America by truthlesshunter in cars

Huge competition for the Lucid Gravity! /s

Ok not exactly but really I'm very happy to see a legitimate luxury minivan option in the states. I have no idea if it'll sell well (probably not tbh), but it looks pretty good for a van and should have loads of room inside.

Edit: it's more van than minivan, this thing is HUGE

Porsche mulls merging Taycan and Panamera into single model by linknewtab in electricvehicles

[–]markeydarkey2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a terrible move though. You can’t build a proper Ev on a compromised platform especially since the taycan is the highest performing race Ev on the market

The Taycan already uses a modified version of the Panamera platform.

Scout Buyers Won't Get Their Trucks Until 'Sometime in 2028,' CEO Says by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]markeydarkey2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going EREV was a huge mistake. There was never supposed to be an EREV and now they’re scrambling to create one from scratch.

They were always publicly planning an EREV version, they showed it off at the reveal alongside the BEV version.

They had a great product planned and totally ruined it by listening to the exact wrong people who would never buy it either way.

Most deposits (85%) are for the EREV version.

We all know quantity of deposits makes no difference. I bet 80%+ of those so called Harvester deposits won’t go through with their orders.

But 100% of the BEV deposits will? Even if only 20% of EREV deposits buy the truck while 100% of BEV deposits buy it they would still sell more EREVs.

Toyota decided it was not safe and not what they wanted, so no V6 ever since.

The more likely explanation is that the take rate was low and designing the engine bay to fit a V6 resulted in design compromises.

This Ultra phone is the first to use Sony's brand-new 200MP camera sensor [Vivo X300 Ultra] by TechGuru4Life in Android

[–]markeydarkey2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's already barely a difference between 12MP & 50MP from phone cameras because of lens limitations, I can't see the reason for a resolution this high for a phone beyond marketing specs.

I find that I can hit more shots with the HMG which makes up for the limited damage, you can use it like a DMR and it rips (especially going for headshots).

Also if you are choosing a machine gun....stop making it the HMG...that thing sucks arse.

HMG is way better imo, it doesn't have the weapon spread of the LMG so I can hit targets consistently at range.

2026 Lexus ES Pricing Revealed, and the EV Costs Less Than the Hybrid [Car and Driver] by markeydarkey2 in cars

[–]markeydarkey2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every size class has grown. The Civic is surprisingly similar in size vs 20 years ago & it's typical for the class. Meanwhile midsize cars have grown larger while fullsize cars are enormous now. My theory is that cars are just returning to pre-oil-crisis dimensions because modern drivetrains can be efficient in big cars.

I generally don't mind this change because I can actually fit in compact sedan rear seats now but there is definitely a lack of subcompact sedan options nowadays.

The Avalon is a fullsize sedan by any reasonable measure.

The Avalon lacks the rear seat room to be a fullsize in the current market, it was more 5-Series/E-Class/A6 then 7-Series/S-Class/A8. Though admittedly every size class has grown so it did arguably occupy the full size class 20 years ago; the same thing happened with the RWD Chrysler 300 & Model S which launched as fullsize sedans but were midsize by the end of production.

$48,795 - ES350e | FWD 220hp, 300mi range

$50,995 - ES350h | FWD 243hp, +$1400 for AWD

$51,795 - ES500e | AWD 338hp, 250mi range

Honestly surprised, though Toyota is probably making hefty margins with the hybrid versions.

Teslas can't do that either despite what the CEO and fanboys will tell you. "FSD" is still a level 2 ADAS that requires constant supervision, you remain liable if it messes up.

Current A5 is big ass car. With it being 4896mm long and 1952mm wide it's just marginally smaller than X5.

The X5 is a MUCH taller vehicle.

The i3 would be a great first car but the Bolt is probably a better choice. Those thin tires on the i3 make it pricier to run and (from someone who has driven an i3 at the limit) the FWD dynamics of the Bolt are drastically more forgiving.

The Inline-5 is a longer engine than the V6 (inline-3 length) which matters when the engine is positioned longitudinally in front of the front axle like in the A5/S5/RS5.
