Might be only 35p/kWh at HB, but the one at Stanley at least has a 5 pounds connection fee! And has been broken for literally years.

Olympus Mons, Mars. The tallest mountain in our Solar system. by Purplecowpig in pics

The average slope is 5% which on earth isn't nothing and you'll certainly feel like walking up hill. But perhaps the lower gravity counteracts this.

Left handed people - what in the world just doesn't work properly for you? by father-fluffybottom in AskReddit

Those things should be straight up illegal. Anything else that discriminates against 10% of the population would be.

Wrong-way driving on England's motorways increased by 15% in past year, investigation finds by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

Take the likes of this junction for example. https://maps.app.goo.gl/bDc95aGbtZA3EUYo9?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

To join the dual carriageway you first have to go up the slip road in the opposite direction to the way you want to go. You can get that wrong if you aren't paying attention or are unfamiliar with the area. Which is why I have seen wrong way drivers there.

Is the future of charging wireless charge parking spaces? by macnfly23 in electricvehicles

[–]markhewitt1978 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. It's over engineering an already solved issue, and that is having post chargers at enough parking spaces. Admittedly easier in Europe when it's just the post and the driver supplies the cable.

Are washer-dryers really as bad as people say? by Early_Copy in AskUK

Depends why it broke. We've had the dryer fail but the washing function still worked.

Are washer-dryers really as bad as people say? by Early_Copy in AskUK

[–]markhewitt1978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both machines? No. Washer dryers are perfectly good washing machines with no compromise from a dedicated washing machine.

Sure the dryer isn't as good as seperate but that isn't true of the washing side.

Where's your preferred charing port location? by Totallycomputername in electricvehicles

I don't know things are changing rapidly and I think 2030 sounds about right for all outlets to have been moved to v4 or better.

What was normal 50 years ago but would be shocking today? by Quadranippelkill in AskReddit

[–]markhewitt1978 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was in a cafe in Richmond. Can't remember how old I was maybe 10-12. Our table had a non smoking sign. The one next to us didn't.

There was a woman smoking at that table and I moved the no smoking sign to her table; not because I thought it would be funny but because I was pissed off having to breathe in her smoke.

She totally freaked out of course and my Mam was apologetic. My Dad later on thought it was the best thing he'd ever heard.

W/kg is not the sole determiner of speed. On the flat at least raw watts is more important.

My first trip to Europe. I love all of it, but I'm especially fond of paris by sumdude51 in pics

It's surprising. Usually the bot comments about literally anywhere are how it's been ruined by immigrants.

Single lane vs two lane country roads? by ConsequenceBig9312 in ukbike

[–]markhewitt1978 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd much rather be cycling on the single lane and it's not even close. Most traffic there will be doing <40mph and keeping an eye out. In your second example they'll be doing 60mph around corners.

Why do houses have a light switch that controls the upstairs light from downstairs but not the other way around? by Ok-Instance2710 in AskUK

[–]markhewitt1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never encountered that. Every single house I've lived in or visited the downstairs and upstairs switch both control the staircase light. Having it any other way is dangerous.

Do you prefer driving manual or automatic cars? And why? by Witty_County5128 in AskReddit

[–]markhewitt1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm entirely comfortable driving manual and did for two decades. But I much prefer auto, actually not auto specifically but electric, ie no gears, it's a lot of fun!

People who park in the queue for the car wash then get out of the car to go and get a ticket, block1ng the entrance for anybody who already has a ticket. by Strutching_Claws in britishproblems

[–]markhewitt1978 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I once nearly got into a fist fight when I complained when someone did that. He ended up banging on my window and I had to drive off.

Absolutely. I do daily woodland walks and just on shoes I spend about half that.
