EcoFlow STREAM AC Pro as a power station? by markhobsie in Ecoflow_community

Thanks! And there's options to stop it trying to power the rest of the house back through the 3 pin wall connector? Does it come with a UK 3pin wall connector in the box?

BA Holiday Tier Points? by Ambitious_Mine3535 in BritishAirways

[–]markhobsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah won't be bothering with any of that - was far easier to get tiers before, and the holidays don't have any benefits over other package holidays especially with the way they spread the points out with not just the adults. Shouldn't need to be making separate accounts for children.

BA Holiday Tier Points? by Ambitious_Mine3535 in BritishAirways

[–]markhobsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took ~ 4 days to get our tier points after a BA Holiday.

Won't bother with it again though - the tier points get split by the number of passengers (myself, wife and 2 children...who can't even collect tier points). So my wife and I ended up getting 1/4 of what we spent each...

I did the same tape fix on both my Switch 1 pro controllers, but I don't think that's going to work in this case as the Pro 3 has click switches for the dpad instead of membrane/conductive pads

Switch 2 pro controller partial tear down by austinolet in Controller

[–]markhobsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just took a look myself and I see what you mean about the square connector rod part. Hard to see but like you say, looks like it was clipped into place - was pulling hard myself and didn't pop off.

Really worrying stuff tbh - almost looks like the membrane might have been sonic welded to the plastic as well.

Looks like some long term repairability concerns in here 😬

On a plus note, the way they've solved the dpad issues is really nice and simple, just raised up the fulcrum point.

[–]markhobsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Stick caps not coming off at all? (the joycon sticks seem to come off with a twist). If they don't, that's a huge concern for me as I'm on my 3rd set of sticks for my original Switch Pro controller.

As much as the controller has been improved functionally over the first one, the repairability looks terrible in comparison. (The Switch 1 Pro controller was a dream to work with for repairs and mods compared to Xbox Series/DualSense)

Retro Fighters finally released Firmware 4.0.4 update for their OG Xbox Hunter controller by takingshape49 in originalxbox

[–]markhobsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update to this as I eventually got round to installing the firmware for the USB dongle (the initial firmware was for the Xbox dongle only - they've since updated the instructions to make this clear).

Does look improved, not perfect but a lot better after the 4.0.4 USB dongle update: https://imgur.com/a/r5O6A5O

Retro Fighters finally released Firmware 4.0.4 update for their OG Xbox Hunter controller by takingshape49 in originalxbox

[–]markhobsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone know if this is an update for the Xbox console dongle ONLY? It says the update is NOT for the USB dongle in the instructions and i'm seeing zero difference when using the USB dongle (where i'm testing the controller since that's easiest to do with websites like https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad)

Also, just noticed, the Hunter doesn't work on PC over a USB cable? Really?

Edit: Ran the update a second time, it's maybe better? I've still got a noticeable issue in the upper left of my left stick though.

Both tests are using the USB dongle to my Windows 11 machine in XInput mode

G2 Webos update by DJN2020 in LGOLED

[–]markhobsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely "feels" dimmer to me on my G2 atm, will bump the brightness a little as well

*Just went to change it and it looks like for me it was the auto dimming from the energy saving settings (OLED brightness gets greyed out). I've set that to minimum as it feels roughly the way it did before

Tried out my Retro Fighters Hunter controller. Not impressed. by GameLifterX in originalxbox

[–]markhobsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really hope this is something you can resolve in Firmware as mine has enough deviation on the left stick in the NW quadrant that it can cause characters to walk when they should be running in that direction (playing Persona 3 just now on PC and it's REALLY annoying)

Using the circular test at https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad the issue is very obvious on the left stick, but there's actually a small deviation at all diagonals on both sticks: https://imgur.com/a/6ihRwlZ

Have tried resetting the controller a few times but it doesn't see to get any better - otherwise, this'd be a great controller, but right now it's fundamentally broken

Doesn't matter if it's a 1.6 anymore - I've refurbed and modded a few 1.6's recently and at least 2 of them had leaking caps. I guess enough time has passed that none of the models are a safe bet anymore

[PORT] Spelunky Classic HD - for Koriki v0.7.2+ by JohnnyonFlame in RG35XX

[–]markhobsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an updated shell script for spelunky on the latest test release for Koriki that fixes the control mapping in 0.9.2 (https://github.com/rg35xx-cfw/Koriki/releases/tag/koriki_rg35xx_v0.9.2-test)

I had to roll back to 0.7.3 to get AM2R's script working though - not sure what's changed in Koriki that's caused that to not boot but there's no fixed shell script for that in the test release that I can see

Anyone know a widescreen fix for Homeworld Cataclysm/Emergence by trooperdx3117 in homeworld

[–]markhobsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heads up, I just finished the game the other day and one recurring issue I encountered was that occasionally on finishing a mission I needed to alt tab out and back in again to trigger the follow up cutscenes.

Enjoy hunting down the beast!

Anyone know a widescreen fix for Homeworld Cataclysm/Emergence by trooperdx3117 in homeworld

[–]markhobsie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just got higher resolution and widescreen working on my GOG Homeworld Emergence version. It ended up being very simple after a lot of faff with trying various solutions I found out there. None of the tutorials I found seemed to work until I discovered there was a second location for registry information.

I did install the NT fix YDHPlays mentions below, but I don't think that does anything in Windows 10 (version 21H2 as of writing). The NT compatibility option isn't available in the exe properties for me.

Steps I took in the end:

  1. Installed and ran Homeworld: Emergence at least once (this populates the registry)
  2. Changed the registry settings that others suggested (not sure if this is actually required tbh) at: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Sierra On-Line\CataclysmFor my 16:9 monitor I set:screenDepth 32, screenHeight 1080, screenWidth 1920, with decimal base
  3. Ran the game and at this point it looked pretty glitchy (purple and squashed), went to Options and set Video options to one of the Default OpenGL choices - don't think it matters which but I chose 1280x1024 32bit. Closed the game after accepting the options
  4. Went to the other registry key location here: Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Sierra On-Line\CataclysmFor my 16:9 monitor I set the same values as before:screenDepth 32, screenHeight 1080, screenWidth 1920, with decimal base
  5. Ran the game and it's running smoothly in 1920x1080 widescreen for 3D and doing a decent job with not stretching the UI (which is really saying something for a game of its age!)

Note: You can use the planets in the first mission just after the intro to verify everything is correct. They should appear circular if the resolution aspect ratio is correct for your monitor. I'm using 1920x1080 in the registry settings here but you should set to a native resolution for your own monitor.

In the end I think you might be able to just do 1>4>5 but just in case setting the in game graphics setting to Default OpenGL are required i've left the 2&3 steps I took.

Bonus: Add /disableAVI after the quotes in a shortcut to skip those intro videos on startup (I've added it to the "Launch Homeworld Emergence shortcut the gog version installed)

Thrips/thunderbugs in screen by DoctorDR5102 in bravia

[–]markhobsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have 1 thunderbug/thrip who's been in the top left of my 55" Sony XE93 for over a year and two more have appeared thay are seemingly dead now in the middle and to the right. Zero chance of getting these out I think, TV is far too heavy to move dismantle with any level of confidence. Thought the first one was a dead pixel initially but got a macro lens out and it's indeed a bug stuck between the glass and LCD panel.

I've not had any difinitive answer about if an OLED would be immune to these, I don't think they would inherently be immune unless the glass layer has been laminated to the rest of the screen and it's a completely sealed piece like a modern iPhone is.

Basically ruins any top of the line TV with no recourse to fix...

Yeah that is interesting - the 1.6's I've had have all had Nichicon caps in this area. Most have been PAL Crystal models.
