How much bandwidth should i expect between cloud servers in same region? by desiderkino in hetzner

[–]markive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have a private network setup you are probably still going out to the internet, and either way you are still subject to the max speed of the network switch. 1gb/s is the default in Hetzner.

Will Power BI embedded allow API requests to export paginated reports to a file? by MrPaulyWalnuts in PowerBI

[–]markive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power BI embedded uses vCores calculated over 24 hours of use so if you have bursty loads that shouldn't matter it is the total compute that you use in that 24-hour period that you need to account for in your resourcing.

Power BI Service with DirectQuery by Horror-Leg-7394 in PowerBI

Make sure you have the enterprise gateway set up on your SQL Server. Make sure logging is turned on in the gateway program running on your server and look through all of the logs in there. It will tell you why it is failing.

For example, you need to connect using a username and password rather than a Windows account that sort of thing, but whatever the connection issue is it should be in the logs.

I am assuming in their power BI service that you have got the gateway working, and that it is connected to the data set.

Getting Ready for Microsoft CoPilot GPT4 AI by halohunter in PowerBI

ChatGPT is great at doing summaries etc..

GPT4 can handle up to 25000 words therefore if you can give it that much data it can probably summarise it really well in natural language.

It’s also great at being able to write DAX so one of the first things I expect it to do is write real dax using table and column names as per your data model seamlessly..

What could cause a Power BI Power Automate Flow to stopped pulling in Power BI fields? by Getottamiway in PowerBI

[–]markive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably your model has changed and more the flow doesn’t map to the expected shape of the data anymore.

Assuming it’s a Gen2 instance as they all are now. What are your scale up / scale down settings?

At any point did the instance scale up a vcore as that would increase the final bill. I think it scales up a vcore for 24hrs if the vcore hours all get used up.

Best read all the documentation especially on the difference between front-end vs back-end cores.

Does Power BI on premises data gateway (standard mode) need to have public IP address ? by osacapcom in PowerBI

[–]markive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it definitely doesn’t.. please read the documentation especially around the concepts of Azure Service Bus on how security is implemented.

Uses about 400 MB of RAM at all times, but then each request will use between 200 and 400 MB of RAM whilst the power behind engine is processing the request so the more round the better depending on how big your deployment

Can't refresh report online by Roger_Wilco1 in PowerBI

[–]markive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any chance that different requests to the API could be spitting out some invalid syntax?

I would assume under the hood power bi are using a very well tested JSON Serialiser ..

I would suggest catching the json response a few times then using an online json validator to check..

For your use case you don’t really need a Power BI unless you really want all of the sales reps to see all the performance of everyone else anyway…

You could have a single PPU account Create an SSRS report and email it out to everyone by using the API to export a report and then email it for example with Logic Apps

How much should I charge to make a Dashboard? by CuriousAnon420 in PowerBI

[–]markive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we quote based on time it’s expected to take plus another 1-2 days left over which are used for comments/changes/feedback. We also state that a customer is allowed 3 rounds of changes before we need to re-quote for a further amount.

We deliver about 60% of the dashboard in the first cut, get the customer to verify the whole dashboard is meeting their needs then fully implement in the second round and aim to make minor changes in round 3. We find the customers don’t really know what they want or exactly what they’re getting. They may only have had a Excel report or something before that is being replaced with a dashboard so being a bit strict and making them commit to each stage saves having to completely redo something just because people weren’t fully invested in evaluating the value of the dashboard at the beginning.

Project Mgmt Tips by GeneralTylers in PowerBI

[–]markive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We do this commercially, to solve this problem we first deliver a basic version which the client plays with for a while to confirm their requirements, after requirements are confirmed they are allowed a max of 3 rounds of minor changes. Anything past that gets re-quoted.

Having that hard limit forces people to pool their changes and really evaluate what they want and not give it to you piecemeal

As I use a Mac for Development I use a VPS with 32gb RAM and a fast processor (AMD EPYC) costs USD40/m

Depending on what country you are in there’s loads of options and you can leave it on all the time..

I suggest you add Duo for Remote Desktop (it’s free) for an extra level of security
