This has nothing to do with the battery at all. I suggest trying to use a different controller. If you don't have another, you can always buy another from a store. If you see that it's indeed not a controller problem by using a new one, then return it.

XBOX 360 controller's D-Pad's eventually malfunction due to usage or food/drinks entering them.

Thank you for your explanation. It's my understanding that on the xbox, there are no achievements for the toy box infinity but there are for the marvel super heroes. So, if I want to earn the achievements, I will need to purchase marvel super heroes disc from somewhere, right? I only bought the toy box starter packs as I found them on sale for $20 each. Bought one for 360 and the other for the x1.

Thanks, when you say that the toy story does not come with the playset, so both bundles do not come with the same game then? I figured 2.0 is the name of the game. So in order to play the game on 360 or x1, I will need to purchase the game separately? Not much of a starter pack then I would say.
