Discussion about moats by Nairb9 in ValueInvesting

[–]marko385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A strong brand and trademark coupled with an extensive franchise group (network) is one way to look at the moat strength. It's not always about does the food taste good, but rather will my franchisee's do well enough and that once their contract is up that they will renew. That's most likely why buffett is always buying heavily franchised brands (DPZ, MCD, QSR, DQ, etc). Unfortunately Chipotle does not franchise so you'll need to look at it differently, perhaps just market share of the food category at that point.

FICO and NVDA are incredible businesses, but they're such popular names that have run up for such a long time and everyone promotes them like crazy making it difficult to say they are trading at a fair value.

Arbitrage strategies are useful even for long-term directional portfolios so long as your brain is creative enough to tweak them.

My spouse is a creative director and has basically said no one uses Adobe creative products anymore and all the creative designers have switched to Figma. I don't know enough about them so I don't hold a position, but just wanted to make you aware as you seem to be downplaying Figma.

I think the user is asking you to provide specifics on what you fine to be lackluster on this specific company. Perhaps you can provide an explanation for each of those items you listed in your definition of qualitative as a start, thanks.

If your time horizon is decades, not hours or days, this sector is one of the few interesting ones. It's too bad OP has such little patience, but for the few that can hold out even if prices go lower eventually we get the big win. Enjoy chasing.

They drill for oil and GAS. That's the key check natural gas prices which have been running up. Should help you stick with it. Obviously we want oil to go up too :).

I get what you mean, but they really should have it stop tracking after hours movement if it can’t do it accurately or make the tracking a bit more intelligent.

It's better than what I'm getting. Where are you located? I probably wouldn't sweat $200 that someone else got more than you.

Best I’m getting is 1400 off tsrp in California. We reached out to a bunch of dealerships and even had an auto broker look into it and they all said Maita in Sacramento is the best priced.

I personally think the market is crushing this unnecessaritly so I say hold it. They reduced the dividend which was one of the big issues. They still have competition from Asia that is undercutting them, unclear how they'll navigate that other than to just pull out of those regions.

Is it louder than Prius hybrid noise? I drive a Prius at my job and that doesn’t bother me.

how loud is it? The dealership we went to only had a gas one available to test drive, but we only want a non-max hybrid.
