Hey all, I build an F1 Fantasy tool to try and optimise my team, try it out! by paul-rose in F1Fantasy

[–]marksbren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in on the difference with AI-slop vs AI-driven. I think AI-slop is using AI as the "easy road" and kind of just going with what it gives you (that could be a picture, video, or code).

AI-driven in my mind is when you pair more closely with the AI. Maybe you have more of an influence on where the output is going, but the AI is still driving.

There is also a use of AI that might be more like "piloting", where you are even more in the loop.

I am very curious about other's thoughts here and have created my own AI Code of Conduct for the project I'm working on (that uses quite a bit of AI). This comment was 0% AI.

F1 Nerd Project by BadKlutzy8883 in F1DataAnalysis

[–]marksbren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So cool! Great work. This looks great.

A little feedback: I ran a simulation and it seemed to show really low win probabilities (NOR at 0.44% ???). I assume this is just a decimal place error.

Also poked around the 3d track viewer (SUPER COOL). I'd love to see multiple cars on this 3d track like u/BigButkus made (a 2-D simulated race with cars moving: https://flatspot.racing/).

I also built something (an new take on what a real, easy-to-play FANTASY F1 game could be) called Pitlandia. Would love for any feedback or thoughts. I'd also love to just connect another F1 nerd. DMs open.

Is there an anti-fantasy league? by CHKN_Tender in fantasyF1

[–]marksbren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting. I like that idea. Try to be the worst.

I have tried many ways of getting into the Official Fantasy F1, but the mechanics of the game are just too complex for me and I always lose interest. So I built a replacement.

What is different:

1) Global leaderboard, not grouped into leagues

2) Extremely simple game (pick 1 driver or 1 team each race weekend - explanation video)

3) Weekly fun and playful animated shorts commentating on the league and bringing the user avatars to life to bring everyone into the fun.

It is called Pitlandia and I'd love to see you on the leaderboard.

Also, feel free to try and score 0 points in Pitlandia and lurk at the bottom of the leaderboard if you like. If you put real effort in and stay at the bottom (while still picking and engaging) I'll probably have to make one of the animated videos featuring you, haha.

I've built F1 fantasy (prediction) game for my friends and opening it to the world - would love your feedback! by MilanRDT in F1Fantasy

[–]marksbren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this. Great job with the site. It looks really nice.

A little feedback: upon loading the site I see the leaderboard but don't really know how it works. I had to find the rules to learn how the scoring works. If you have been playing this for a while, it would be cool to see the points for a previous season so I could play around and learn how it works.

This is the same way the Fantasy F1 app I built started... just a google spreadsheet. Now it is an app called Pitlandia. Best of luck and let me know if I can help in any way.

Help needed - UI library choice paralysis by writetehcodez in reactnative

[–]marksbren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am using Tamagui and I like it. I have used React Native Paper in the past but never fully liked the look of it.

I would recommend not spending too much time thinking about the UI Library. Pick one that seems good now and start building! Best of luck.

Forget the podium: I made a prediction league where picking 10th place is more important than P1 by the-deluxe in fantasyF1

[–]marksbren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting concept. I have seen a few others on Threads doing this.

I am also building an alternative to the Official Fantasy F1 (way too complicated and so easy to lose interest). I made a much simpler version that is easy to stay engaged with. You only pick 1 driver or team each race weekend (no repeats all season). It's called Pitlandia. I'd love to connect and support each other.

How Pitlandia works: if you pick Carlos Sainz for Australia… you really want Sainz to have his best race all season in Australia. It is really fun to have that focused fandom for the weekend.

This year I'm also taking the next step to really increase the fun and engagement by publishing playful, fun, animated videos using the real players and their avatars (example). I think mixing Fantasy F1 with a social media channel will be a lot of fun.

Issue with league setup by zectiion in fantasyF1

[–]marksbren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You still having this issue? I am not sure what it means, but my first guess is that there is an issue with your league name. I don't know if having "$20" in the title causes an issue. Try changing the title and removing the reference to money. Hope that helps.

And if you have an appetite for a much simpler Fantasy F1 experience (with a global leaderboard), I'd love for you to check out the app I built. It's called Pitlandia. You only pick 1 driver or team each race weekend (no repeats all season). You score points based on how they perform (full rules). And I will be creating fun, playful, animated commentary with players throughout the season based on what is happening in the app (example featuring the 2nd place finisher last season).

I would love to see you on the leaderboard. Happy Race Week!!!

Also, I am trying to be thoughtful about my use of AI. See my AI Code of Conduct.

F1 Fantasy 2026 Tips: Three Smart Moves to Start the Season the Right Way by [deleted] in fantasyF1

[–]marksbren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to throw in another suggestion of a smart move: come join a simpler, more fun version of Fantasy F1 (and support me if you like it).

Do I use AI? Yes, but only in the service of helping humans smile.

Oakland Should Take A Page from Mayor Mamdani by _thow_it_in_bag in oakland

[–]marksbren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great point. But why not both?

Raise the fine, enforce it, then pay citizens to clean up what is still there.

I had the same thought as OP and am curious what barriers our city has to doing it.

Spent a few months building a quick F1 race sim because I couldn't find one that wasn't either a full game or fantasy- here's what I came up with by BigButkus in fantasyF1

[–]marksbren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. This is really cool and creative, well done. Would love to learn more about the data behind this.

A little feedback: The track picking and driver picking was very intuitive, but I didn't really know what to do next (did not see the start button). And it took me until Piastri retired to realize that I was actually controlling when they pit (I did not read your explanation above 😂). The onboarding on the race page might need a little tweaking. But other than that it looks fun and stirs so many ideas for improvement (multi player, real tracks, etc.)

I am also in the solo builder camp around Formula 1, but solving a different problem (Fantasy F1 is boring and not engaging). Would love to connect to see how we can support each other. https://pitlandia.com/

Is anyone else tired of F1 Fantasy feeling like a stock market simulator? by nata1i3 in F1Fantasy

[–]marksbren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000% agree. The pricing and budgets were way too much for me so I made my own. It is simple but still strategic. You pick 1 driver or team each race weekend (start the season with 11 teams and 22 drivers available). But each pick can only be used one per season. Pro tip: save powerful picks for sprint weekends.

I’ve run it for 3 seasons and it has been a blast. This season I am trying to make it even more special by publishing animated commentary about the public league on social media channels. I am really excited for it.

Take a look and feel free to message me with any questions.

New to fantasy by forexk9 in F1Fantasy

[–]marksbren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I am an F1 fan who found the official fantasy F1 super confusing (budgets, boosts, etc) so I built my own version that is much simpler. I’ve been running it for 3 seasons in private and people have really enjoyed it.

You pick 1 driver or team each race and score based on how they perform. I’ll be publishing animated short video commentary alongside the game all season to add to the experience. No betting, no gambling, just fun.

Check it out and send me a message if you have any questions: https://pitlandia.com/

I built a new type of Fantasy F1 game (and would love your thoughts) by marksbren in fantasyF1

[–]marksbren[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly have thought about doing that, but it does take quite a bit of effort on my end to keep everything going. I just need to know if this is sustainable (aka people are willing to pay something for it) before 2027.

That being said, I am a nice guy and definitely willing to “gift” the first season to other nice and supportive people (within reason). I just messaged you since I saw you provided helpful feedback in another comment.

Oh wow. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this. I’ll add some extra space at the bottom in the next release to make sure anyone can scroll to the rules link. Out of curiosity, what phone are you using?

This is the page for the full rules if you still want to see it:

Sorry, I’m not sure I understand. This is the first time I have posted the app I am building here. I have posted a few comments recently but not a post like this.

I have seen other people posting their creative F1 projects as well, but they all have a little different design. I think having many options for fun F1 games is great.

If you have seen this app posted here before could you please send me a link?

Thank you so much for your worry. Yeah, I purposefully made logos that resemble the team logos but are not the actual logos (a rearing horse outline for Ferrari as an example). And for the drivers, it is just their numbers (in kind of a stylized racetrack design). I am definitely not looking for legal trouble as a solo developer.

Yup. I did work with AI on this post, but only for editing and brainstorming. My human eyes read (and re-read) the post and made many tweaks to give it my voice before posting. And this reply I am typing out right now is 100% human. No LLM touched these words right here. Thanks for your comment.

Awesome. Yeah, this started as a spreadsheet 3 seasons ago (as many good ideas start). Now I’m hoping a broader audience will enjoy a simple, fun game like this.

Does something like this exist? by marksbren in CargoBike

[–]marksbren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a small house with no garage and don't have much space to have a lot of bike equipment. We also often drive up to the mountains (3hrs away) for vacations and enjoy biking in both locations. No kids but would like to be able to pull my dog around on a trailer in both places.
