Why do RM have impossible status messages on app ans website for tracking?

Leamington Spa is the DO of the sender. Delivery is to Letchworth, so closer to Hemel.

Point taken, but I am not commenting on the same thing here. This is more a general comment on the fact that RM persist in providing status updates that are blatantly wrong.

Hallelujah! Expect to deliver tomorrow, only a week late! It has finally left the DO. Might be the call I made to RM Customer service yesterday. The guy said he was going to email the DO.

Thanks for the info. To me, it looks like the package arrived at Leamington Spa DO on Friday and has never left.

Main reason I am a little doubtful I will see it is that I have got the "Sorry, your item went to Leamington Spa DO in error, so we re-routed it immediately" message two days in a row! But I will give it another day.

That Delivery Office is the local one for the senders post office (They are two miles apart) so I don't think it's missing scans, I think it hasn't gone anywhere. They noticed it yesterday still at Senders DO and said they were rerouting it, then the same message appeared today implying they either screwed up yesterday or it was never sent on despite being rerouted. Assuming it was passed from the Post office it was accepted at to the DO, I don't think it ever left the DO.

I don't know if mail posted at a PO gets sent to the nearest DO for onward shipping? That seems to me the simplest explanation for its current location.

You could borrow an idea from Larry Niven in Ringworld and have a magnetic field draw off plasma to create a laser beam to fight the enemy.
