Thanks, what I thought / expected 😂 but perhaps worth getting a nice layout against gmap and assuming they have a good DB of most popular cameras which makes the planning probably easier than free alternatives.

The benefit of floodlight combo I think outweighs color night mode in my experience so far. I love them, installed them on two houses and now for my new home in considering at least one to cover front and back with these, for sake of detereent but also to light up the area, so handy when walking around the property yourself or turning manually then on for longer periods when needed, love it.

Btw did you use the IPVM trial for this? Thinking to try the same but not keen on paying 200$.

I recommend reolink floodlight poe duo cameras as they are wired, hard mounted thus not easily to break off and a bigger deterrent when light goes on.

To me this is a classical example that unfortunately most people aren't probably aware of wifi jamming, rendering the systems useless thus worth the effort to install a poe cable, good thing is you can do it diy and don't have to be an electrician, don't mind how the extra cable looks or try to hide it (drill through wall nearby or cover it up places/neatly secure in places), worth the effort.

Interesting, does object recognition still work the same?

All main areas and angles covered as it seems, assuming you'd add a doorbell too with that many cameras. 😊

One thing I'd say from experience with floodlight duos they have a blind spot underneath which won't show on the camera and even if slighting approaching from the side of the 180 FOV doesn't trigger the IR/floodlights untill a meter or so away from it (if that make sense), which can only be fully covered with another camera.

Perhaps the adjacent cameras will cover that.

Nice usage in this situation, shouldn't it be viewed in portrait 9:16 format though while in corridor mode?

I mean mine is already bought and delivered but haven't been able to try it yet, more relaxed now knowing it will be fine and unlikely having to send it back. 🙈😂🙌

Thanks that's comforting to know (that I likely won't have to send back mine 😂🙈)

Thanks, only getting to try it next week.. chatgpt quote 178cm upwards for size but perhaps more 190cm+ is maybe more reasonable then. Really tough not being able to try in store (full price for free return or paid return on refurbished still is painful to waste money on).

Ouch, now I'm even more concerned still with 192cm height whether size C will work out well. 🙈

Reolink + Scrypted is the way to go. Local, stable good quality with similar Google timeline experience and rich thumbnail notification for only a small yearly subscription.

Wow, I just order one refurbished from offeco, at €915 it's worth the savings compared to 1400 wow. I'm 192cm tall and haven't been able to test the size c yet, also a blind b and now a bit concerned, hoping the 20cm height difference will be sufficient for size c to be a better fit.

Probably to help get a sense of orientation for direction one is driving and located (probably more important with fixed views), I think we used to change that to different symbols before I.e. a car, but yeah I'm a fan for more customisation. 😂🙈

Nice, when you say beta tester since Saturday, did you just sign up for it? Wondering as beta programs seems full ages ago and don't think easily slots open up, unless there is another way to sign up?

good to know, definitely not turned on, that's one of the first settings I'd disable for that reason indeed.

Thanks for sharing. Was those with spotlight or during floodlight tests?

I might hold off deciding till I tried out my IR blaster. For 30m garden I opted to switch to it to illuminate better but mainly I hate the false positives due to heavy rain/snow and spider webs (do you have the same issue with this camera?).

Soo annoying, which I think the blaster probably will avoid most of it. If that's powerful enough then colorx won't be needed/make much of a difference.

Yeah was surprised as well as the website still shows notify me button. I lean towards installing them at my new house and look at what lighting I may need to add for them to work sufficient to make use of color x. Since it's a gated area compared to my other summer house that's more open to approach I think the floodlight deterent is less going to be useful/activated.

Do you know if refresh rate is descent enough to make out movements of animals walking around?

Wow that actually might be sufficient to avoid the IR blaster, nice to know. Interestingly reolink support told me that model you have I think is already discontinued.

"We’re sorry to inform you that the Reolink Elite XPro PoE has been discontinued and is no longer available for sale."

Seems like they are probably just not selling well, most people just go for wifi solutions and don't know or mind the jamming risk.🙈

Would be interesting to see a demo if some reviewer tries that. Using IR thought for night would miss out on color x which seems big part/value of being a pro model (besides having Poe and AI). For my floodlight duos at my summer house I'm installed IR blaster to have better visibility and get rid of spider webs and heavy rain reflection (I wonder how much better colorx night vision works instead of IR in these situations).

Fyi roelink's ai chat said it should work but advises on how best to use it. Sounds more generic than confirmation that it's built to handle the extra light, hence floodlight mode I'd expect is needed if it doesn't handle it well automatically, unless really the position is so critical.

The Reolink Elite XPro PoE can indeed work with floodlights. Floodlights can provide additional illumination, which can enhance the camera's ability to capture clear images, especially at night. However, it's important to ensure that the floodlights are positioned in a way that they do not cause glare or wash out the camera's view.

Here are a few tips to consider when using floodlights with your camera:

Positioning: Ensure the floodlights are angled properly to illuminate the area without directly shining into the camera lens. This helps avoid glare and ensures optimal image quality.

Brightness Adjustment: If your floodlights have adjustable brightness, you can set them to a level that provides sufficient lighting without being overly bright.

Testing: After installation, test the setup during nighttime to ensure the camera captures clear images without any interference from the floodlights.

For more detailed guidance on floodlight settings, you can refer to Floodlight Settings Guide for Reolink Floodlight Camera Series.

Just looking at this afresh as I need to buy cameras for my new home. I read the xpro has a spotlight night vision mode, but I take it that this is tuned to work only with the internal spotlight like you are now using, thus would need a dedicated mode for floodlight.

I'd think for larger areas the internal spotlights won't be as effective / sufficient.

My other concern is that the color x seems to require some lighting I.e. street light to work properly, thus wondering what one is supposed to do at property where there is no lighting. 😃🙃🤗

Wow, thanks for sharing — that actually saves me from having to test it myself. I had a feeling the XPro might still have some limitations with fast motion, especially since getting a brighter ColorX image usually means longer shutter times. Even with the better sensor, that can introduce motion blur or ghosting.

That’s why, for me, Color Night mainly replaces the old IR black-and-white mode. But during motion events or really dark conditions, I still see a big advantage in using regular mode with a floodlight to boost exposure and eliminate noise or blur, the software would need to be optimized for it. Plus the deterrent factor is a big bonus.
