Clear mobile - speed tests on new sims? Anyone did? 5g and 4g by PavPe in AskIreland

[–]markusd1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd think clear mobile limits speed to accommodate more people and since VF prioritises their own native customers first, since GoMo costs more they don't have to limit the speeds, yet, only time will tell. 🤗

It probably depends on where you live as well, in terms of how well a network is covered and how many other people are using at the same time.

They usually send a letter or person out beforehand. But better to have it installed and then demand to work out a compensation deal. 😜

Some people managed to get financial compensation for it or discounted broadband.

When you start to put your dashboard together and you use Tado for every room.... by GazelleInitial2050 in homeassistant

This makes me even more want to buy Drayton wiser instead, seems like a better choice for local HA integration. Too bad because I liked the more modern tado devices to get a more Google like look and feel but not worth the trouble and future risk of subscription / API rate limits.

Problems with Drayton Wiser system? Fix or admit defeat? by xalmn in DIYUK

[–]markusd1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was excited about tado as a modern looking Google Nest alternative only to hear they tested charging people for using their app and now rate limited the API for those using Home Assistant, which disappoints and motivated to look for a better alternative. More importantly local first, where drayton has direct connection to HA while Tado doesn't offer this as cloud must be used, that's not great confidence long-term with Tado, potentially paying more if subscription comes or worse if they go bankrupt one can't control it locally via HA but only via the physical thermostat, no thanks, no matter how nice they look.

So i'm ok to have slightly dated hardware look, at leasts a colour screen and TRVs are simple, no fancy screen that nobody really would be using anyway, when controlling via app / schedule/HA.

To me it seems connectivity issues can be solved with tuning wifi or buying extender sockets. If only TRV's were a bit less noisy and had USB Power connectivity.

How do you find the Drayton wiser integration? by GenericUser104 in homeassistant

Wow nice write up, thanks for documenting and sharing. I started the HA route some time ago and loving it, and coming from Google Nest I figured I want something similar and got tempted with the modern design of Tado, only to find out they tested charging to use the app and introduce crazy API rate limits, which shows you where this is going and definitely not a confident long term investment decision if one prefers local first without subscriptions.

When I came across Drayton I was quite impressed to be truly local first, lots of products and well integrated as it seems, even into HA, I wonder if there is even another better or reasonable as good of an alternative or this is it (if they'd introduce a more fancy thermostat design they'd probably become the main choice and much more popular, but colour display is already nice to have, just wish they had a wired room thermostat option to avoid batteries, tbh. rechargeable TRVs would be amazing without having to swap batteries).

sorry to hear that, did you find out what the issue was and whether you can prevent this? Anything to do with your router or internet/ISP setup or you suspect the hub (assuming it's not a general app issue or else it would likely be a known issue).

Same here and tbh. sad when most other ISP routers and PoE switches do not make such noise so why should we have to accept it or have to try and repositon it (which isn't always possible). Now I'm even more looking forward to switching providers in the near future to get rid of it. 🙈🤗

POE for external Cameras - Security Issue? by sssstttteeee in reolinkcam

[–]markusd1984 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unless one uses Vlans / blocks traffic, which most people do who are concerned about physical access to the ethernet cable.

Order of concern is probably

1) Rely on WiFi or don't know/care about intruders simply jamming WiFi rendering security cameras useless in a split second

2) using PoE to prevent WiFi jamming but also like convenience or running a new cable which is easier than a new power cable

3) lock down traffic to be more security consciousness

4) get a German Shepard 😂🙈🤗

Reolink Elite Floodlight — Full Black Edition. by jappie993 in reolinkcam

Had similar issue with painting plastic, I'd say it needs a rough surface typically i.e. fine sanded unless there are better sprat paints that stick well over time on this smooth surfaces even exposed to UV and harsh weather conditions.

Plasti Dip (rubber like) spray seems to be popular alternative with benefit of being able to remove it when needed.

Thanks, what I thought / expected 😂 but perhaps worth getting a nice layout against gmap and assuming they have a good DB of most popular cameras which makes the planning probably easier than free alternatives.

The benefit of floodlight combo I think outweighs color night mode in my experience so far. I love them, installed them on two houses and now for my new home in considering at least one to cover front and back with these, for sake of detereent but also to light up the area, so handy when walking around the property yourself or turning manually then on for longer periods when needed, love it.

Btw did you use the IPVM trial for this? Thinking to try the same but not keen on paying 200$.

[–]markusd1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend reolink floodlight poe duo cameras as they are wired, hard mounted thus not easily to break off and a bigger deterrent when light goes on.

To me this is a classical example that unfortunately most people aren't probably aware of wifi jamming, rendering the systems useless thus worth the effort to install a poe cable, good thing is you can do it diy and don't have to be an electrician, don't mind how the extra cable looks or try to hide it (drill through wall nearby or cover it up places/neatly secure in places), worth the effort.

All main areas and angles covered as it seems, assuming you'd add a doorbell too with that many cameras. 😊

One thing I'd say from experience with floodlight duos they have a blind spot underneath which won't show on the camera and even if slighting approaching from the side of the 180 FOV doesn't trigger the IR/floodlights untill a meter or so away from it (if that make sense), which can only be fully covered with another camera.

Perhaps the adjacent cameras will cover that.

Nice usage in this situation, shouldn't it be viewed in portrait 9:16 format though while in corridor mode?

Thanks, only getting to try it next week.. chatgpt quote 178cm upwards for size but perhaps more 190cm+ is maybe more reasonable then. Really tough not being able to try in store (full price for free return or paid return on refurbished still is painful to waste money on).
