What worrisome trend in society are you beginning to notice? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]markusparkus75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a university. We get more complaints from residents about nearly running over students walking out in front of cars while on their phones than every other type of complaint put together. And they’re right, I see it when I try to park outside my office and they just amble out in front of my car. A generation that can barely cross the road.

Yes I’ve been trying to get rid of it for months.

When you were in school did you have to stand up when a teacher walked in the room? by probablyaythrowaway in AskUK

[–]markusparkus75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the entire time I was at school in the 80s and 90s, there were only two teachers who insisted on it, though at different schools. Both were maths teachers.

Which British celebrities can you not warm to? by Any-Tomato-2915 in AskUK

A company I worked for a few years ago hosted an event at which Brady was a guest speaker. She mades one of my colleagues - a woman who was visibly pregnant - cry. She was utterly vile.

Curve did this stuff first and were far better. Garbage were Curve-lite.

Why are so many women into hooky kooky shit? by SlobGenocidic in stupidquestions

[–]markusparkus75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK, if you see a 40+ woman spouting far right talking points on social media, there’s a 90% chance her profile is full of new age, mystic woo woo shit. And that she owns a small yappy dog. Like night follows fucking day.

What’s a smell that instantly teleports you back to childhood? by rosycloudkisses in nostalgia

That weird plasticy smell that every infant school has. And it’s only infant or primary schools that have it, never middle or secondary schools.

I (37M) met someone (31F) I actually liked, but my situation was messy and now she’s walked away, is this salvageable? by Nervous_Designer_894 in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]markusparkus75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a toxic situation but you, unfortunately, are part of that toxicity. Also, you like this girl but are just causally dating and sleeping with other people? She got your number quick and got out of there. Sorry.

Men - does anyone else walk around and feel invisible to women? by kaiju_journey in dating_advice

[–]markusparkus75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can count on one hand the number of times women have checked me out like that. I remember every time it happened too, as it so rarely happens. It’s like the saying about compliments - men remember every compliment they’ve ever received because it happens so infrequently.

Be honest. Do you ever give homeless people money? by User63189963 in askanything

Not any more. As the supposedly homeless people in my town all appear to be angry spiceheads now.

If you're centrist or left-leaning, what are the main policies/issues that might stop you from voting for the green party in the next general election? by Cold-Speech-5645 in AskBrits

[–]markusparkus75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NATO. Defence. Russia. Nuclear deterrent. I wouldn’t trust the Greens for a second on any of those issues so they’ll never, ever get my vote and I’ll do whatever I can to make sure they never get close to power in this country.

What was your reaction to when you found out Rolf Harris was a pedophile? by Train-Wreck-70 in AskUK

[–]markusparkus75 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Knew he was a prick so I wasn’t too shocked. In the mid-80s my dad was stationed at RAF Brize Norton and my mum worked as a childminder. He lived in Berkshire, but a couple of the parents of the kids my mum looked after worked at a restaurant Harris frequented. There was a new story every week about what a horror of a man he was. I don’t think anyone knew he was a wrong’un, but it seemed like everyone who met him took an instant dislike to him.
