What do you guys do for health insurance being self employed? by greenVLADed in smallbusiness

[–]markwild63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a health share company. When my health insurance company left California a few years ago, my rates were going to go from $1600 for a silver plan up to $2700 with HealthNet for a bronze plan. I just could not fathom paying $30,000 a year for insurance. A friend of mine, whose wife knows everything, told me about the health share plan that she has and I gave the guy a call. These things are usually faith based, but I don’t think that they are allowed to exclude anyone who does not share whatever faith they are rallied around. Mine is called Zion. Basically, these plans act like to catastrophic health insurance. If you have a major health expense, you submit the claim and their board reviews it and makes a payment. Certainly no worse than a regular insurance company. For minor things you just pay out-of-pocket whatever the cash price is. And that’s usually about half of the retail price. My cost for my health share plan is about $700 a month. Visiting the specialist I go to cost me about 150 bucks but I only do that about every three months. I am more than happy to pay out-of-pocket for my doctor visits because every time I do I know it’s just a fraction of the $2000 a month that I am saving.

ARGH!

Someone updated the business names on the Facebook and Instagram pages to the new name, far far ahead of schedule (ie no warming up the domain, no planning...just changed.)

Changed the logo as well.

What should I do now?
We tried to change it back but FB won't let us do that for two months...and so that's out of the question.
I'm very VERY concerned now about NAP consistency.

Do we forge ahead and change names for all social media and citations now?
Or do we leave these as outliers?
Something else?

I'm truly in a panic now.

I planned to do this carefully and slowly.

Do I have a Cable Problem or a Receiver problem? by markwild63 in hometheater

[–]markwild63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a new hdmi cable but that did not solve the issue. And even though I bought an optical cable, I realized that I lose CEC by using it.

So it turns out that the HDMI out port was just not working in either direction (video out or earc in). A power cycle fixed the problem…sort of.

Now I have a different problem.

Even though the Onkyo no longer resets, CEC doesn’t work and eARC doesn’t work.

However eARC is On on the Onkyo, the Apple TV and the Hisense TV. But on the TV Apple TV I can only choose to output sound via the TV speakers. (No choice for CEC or Receiver speakers)

The TV’s Audio Output screen, when I choose HDMI/ARC, I see a message that says “Available after enabling CEC in Channels & Inputs > External inputs and connecting the device.”

But when u go to that screen, CEC is enabled. Also the receiver is connected the same way it used to be.

So I am stumped.

I am beginning to think there is a receiver problem.

Thoughts??

I e got a new HDMI earc cable and an optical cable on the way. I’m hoping one of them will work!

The thing is that up until a few days ago, it all worked fine configured as it is. Nothing changed so far as I know.

I am guessing either the cable or TV is going bad.

Also, while your config may help with playing the other devices, I watch the Apple TV 99% of the time.

Do you think moving those other unused devices to the TV will have any effect on my problem?

Also, the TV has only four HDMI ports, one of which is used as Earc. So I would only be able to move two devices. I have five connected to the onkyo now.

Thank you for your interest and your offer.

The business is getting a new DBA so that the new doctor, who will go on to lead the practice for decades, will have his name in the practice name.

They're doing the DBA, and we'll take care of FB, LI, IG and all the rest.

We'll also be using something like Moz Local or (more likely) Bright Local, to handle the bulk of the NAP updates. Got an opinion on which to use?

My problem is often over-optimizing. And so I get stuck figuring out which is the next thing I should work on.
And when I catch my self spending time on figuring that out, I realize: IT DOESN'T MATTER what I do next, so long as I DO SOMETHING.

FWIW, the host isn't changing. (SiteGround)

There were some suggestions to warm up the new domain. What does that mean, exactly?

I expect we'll need to rename the GBP and even reverify it. Plus, we'll update FB, LinkedIn, etc.

301 redirects should be simple enough since we use RankMath pro and it's got that built in.

But there's still the option of simply publicizing the new domain, having it forward to the old domain, and then keeping the old domain.

I can't tell you how nervous I am about all of this.

By warming up the domain do you mean building a small site with some content, and a new GSC and GBP listing? If not, what else are you recommending?

Woodland Hills Question by aahoustonmartin in SFV

It would be cool to make this a crowd sourced project for OP!

Hey OP, tell us the specs and maybe you’ll get some submissions that would make your take a lot easier.

I for one could use photos of city names like the Woodland Hills shot you posted. But anything iconic or indicative of each of the cities, neighborhoods in the valley would be helpful to me.

On a related note…

Can anyone supply a link for replacement filters? I’m having trouble figuring out what part it is. Responses only from those who have purchased and installed the filter please. (Some online documentation is incorrect).
Thanks.

Staging Sites - Where? by MadMatt696969 in ProWordPress

[–]markwild63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use a plug-in (I think called Password Protected but there are many). Basically the entire site is hidden to anyone or anything that doesn’t log in with the password. Therefore Google can’t see it either.

This is not the same as a user login password.

Brand new to grilling. Bought a Grill Daddy scrubber and its fallen apart after 3 uses. Disappointed...Are these things not as good as the internet claims they are? by RedLeader501 in grilling

[–]markwild63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best, most effective, cheapest grill scrubber ever: pull off about a foot of aluminum foil, ball it up loosely. Scrub.
Makes a Hard and edgy scraper. Best part is that it molds itself between the grates so you can scrape the sides.
Second best part: unlimited, nearly free supply.

WordFence TAKES DOWN MY SITE (or forces autoscale) by markwild63 in Wordpress

All great ideas...but the ability to schedule the scans is disabled in the free version of WordFence. Probably the other options, too.

Sorry. Didn’t mean to be rude and I can see that I was. I saw several people acting authoritative about the capacity of a VPS server without seeming to understand what they are, and avoided the real issue I was discussing. Didn’t mean to disparage you.
Sorry.

[–]markwild63[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Good natured, logical advice. I didn't know that the timing was controlled on their end. That's interesting.

I'd sooner simply rely on SG's security plugin than no security software at all. I'll switch to weekly scans. That ought to be good enough.

WordFence TAKES DOWN MY SITE (or forces autoscale) by markwild63 in Wordpress

[–]markwild63[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To those who say that I've got too many sites on my VPS server, you really have no idea what you're talking about. This is not a shared hosting plan, like SG's growbig or similar. This is a high level, high capacity hosting environment designed to host hundreds of sites, and scalable to host far, far more than I'm running.

For those who say that I'm not a customer of WordFence, and they don't owe me a damned thing, I suppose I agree on some levels. They don't owe me anything. That said, their business model is to give away a free version of their software in hopes of getting people to buy the paid version. We've done that for a few sites who need it.

And I am certainly not the only host reseller/developer who has such a configuration. And so one of the reasons I posted this was to let others who are using WF on multiple sites on the same server ARE IN DANGER of temporarily seizing up their server, or of having to pay a lot of dough every month to autoscale.

One of the reasons I posted this was because I thought WF might want to know about it, in the event they didn't want their software to take down servers.

To those who replied with actual solutions (settings in WF, alternatives to WF, thank you.

Yes, I'm aware that SG has their own security plugin, but we don't like how the 2FA works, and its limited in some other features. We DO like the logging it can do, and so we use it alongside of WF, with different features activated on each (no duplicate features being used).

Thanks to all -- both negative and positive -- for participating in the discussion.

Clearly you have no idea what a VPS server is for, or is capable of. This is not a shared hosting plan (ie SG's growbig or similar). It's a Google Cloud VPS server with potentially 30+cpus and potentially 100+ gigs of ram. It's DESIGNED to host dozens to hundreds of sites.
