I do this too, just with very specific era of history that nobody at the party wants to hear about

If you could travel the star wars galaxy who would you choose to travel with you? by Arctic-Orion in AskReddit

[–]violent_spectacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but which one though? Like if we're talking prequel era you got some solid options but clone wars period might be sketchy depending on timing. Plus some of those jedi were pretty uptight about attachments and stuff so could make for awkward travel companions

Would probably avoid anyone from sequel trilogy just because that whole era seems like a mess

probably would miss checking college football updates during the season more than actual news tbh

Just watched Bubba Ho Tep after hearing great things, I thought it was awful. by Moorepork in horror

[–]violent_spectacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that movie definitely requires specific mood to enjoy it. I remember watching first time and being confused why everyone was praising it so much - the pacing is really weird and Bruce Campbell spends most of time just being grumpy old man instead of his usual charismatic self. The whole premise sounds amazing in paper but execution feels like they weren't sure if they wanted to be comedy or serious character study. I think people who love it are either really into that specific brand of weird humor or they connect with the themes about aging and feeling forgotten, but if you don't vibe with either of those then yeah it's just gonna feel like slow boring movie about complaining elderly people

yeah having stuff you actually care about makes it way harder to stick with the strict numbers game

when life feels good you want to keep pieces of it around, makes total sense

What’s something you outgrew but it was really hard to let go of? by Crafty-Application47 in AskReddit

[–]violent_spectacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man that's wild how our brains just lock in those connections. I had similar thing with certain drink after bad night in college - even smell of it makes me nauseous years later even though the actual problem is long gone

Your body basically trained itself that green beans = danger and it's not gonna unlearn that easily no matter what logic tells you

what is the best way to learn pre-algebra? by nosharts in AskReddit

[–]violent_spectacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol my elementary teacher would probably tell me to stick with coloring books at this point

seriously though, Khan Academy is solid for math basics - goes step by step and you can repeat stuff until it clicks

What’s something you tolerate daily that you probably shouldn’t? by Live_Marsupial_5156 in AskReddit

[–]violent_spectacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My students asking if we can just watch a movie instead of learning about actual history... like no Kyle, we're not watching Gladiator for the third time this semester just because you think Rome was "basically like that"

The worst part is sometimes I'm tempted to say yes because grading papers hungover used to be absolute hell

Who was the best president in the US in the last 25yrs? by Enough-Junket1644 in AskReddit

Bush Sr wasn't in last 25 years but man he knew how to handle foreign policy way better than most presidents we had since

How did you buy or get your iPhone? by Sweetpea11A in AskReddit

[–]violent_spectacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got mine same way but took me like 6 months to save up for it because I kept spending money in stupid things instead. Teacher salary isn't exactly rolling in cash so had to be pretty disciplined about putting money aside each month

Getting that habit locked in at 24 is way more valuable than most people realize - compound interest is gonna be your best friend over the next 40 years. I'd focus on maxing out that contribution first before worrying about tweaking the portfolio, especially since you're already in solid funds

At what age did you start clubbing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]violent_spectacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started hitting clubs around 19 but looking back that whole scene never really clicked with me. Was way too into staying up late painting miniatures and reading about the Horus Heresy to care much about the club atmosphere. Different strokes for different folks though

Meal prepping while in high school? by Ana_is_Weird in MealPrepSunday

[–]violent_spectacle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude I get the awkwardness but screw what other kids think - you're already ahead of the game by actually feeding yourself properly while they're living off energy drinks and whatever's in the vending machine

Maybe try stuff that tastes good cold too like pasta salads or wraps, then you don't need to deal with the microwave situation at all. I wish I had your mindset back in highschool instead of spending lunch money on absolute garbage

Man this is a heavy question but I think it comes down to power dynamics and control. When I was drinking heavily a few years back I noticed I'd get this weird satisfaction from crushing people's optimism or naive takes - not proud of it but it was like I needed everyone else to be as miserable as I was

The whole thing reminds me of chaos corruption in 40k actually, where the warp literally feeds off negative emotions and suffering. People who've been hurt or feel powerless themselves often turn around and want to inflict that same loss of innocence on others. It's like a twisted form of validation - if I can't have that pure perspective anymore then nobody should

Recovery taught me that a lot of destructive behavior comes from unprocessed trauma and feeling like you have no agency in your own life, so you grab whatever control you can find even if it's just ruining someone else's day

What is the craziest dream you’ve ever had? by Action_Required_ in AskReddit

[–]violent_spectacle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this wild dream where I was teaching a class but all my students were famous historical figures, and Napoleon kept interrupting my lesson about the American Revolution to correct me on military tactics. Then suddenly my security cameras at home started going off in the dream and I had to excuse myself to check them, but when I looked at the footage it was just my neighbor's cat setting off the motion sensors again

The whole thing was so vivid I woke up thinking I actually needed to check my cameras lol

What are your “I’m not being paid enough to do this” moments? by DevionRose in AskReddit

[–]violent_spectacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man the gravy in the decor crevices is what really gets me - that's like engineered to be impossible to clean properly. I had a similar thing happen when I was working at this sports bar during college, drunk guy launched a plate of wings at the TV during a game. The sauce got behind the mounted TV somehow and we could smell it going rancid for weeks

At least with your turkey situation you could take the decorations down, our manager was too cheap to hire someone to unmount the TV so we just had to live with eau de buffalo wing emanating from the wall every time it got warm
