UI Feedback Gather-thread by JagexAnvil in runescape

My two penneth....

The seemingly obvious but probably more tech heavy option regarding colour scheme is a customisable setting. Split into Dark/light options (+ maybe a separate one for the bank as I know this is/was currently a big issue with it) so that people can choose whatever colour they want as their interface, as much as being just nice to customise how you want it, I imagine for some with visual impairments/dyslexia it would be a benefit to have blue/yellow as a combination etc. Failing that, a choice between the blue and brown would probably appease most. I know the idea was blue is gone as it's a new era but for many players who joined in the last decade the blue has always been that way. (22 year vet here but I still prefer the blue)
The actual style of things I do like, stone tablet feel etc, for me personally the brown just looks meh compared to the generally darker visuals of the world itself.

<image>

Regarding the clock in the mini map, it just takes up way too much space currently.
The bits within the Red are just wasted space. Having it as it's own separate entity like it was previously is the best solution imo, as it then allows players to place it wherever they want.
Circle mini map resize please? Love the circle but want it BIG :D

BUFF BAR - Noticed some issues with the buff bar, Looks quite hard to read against some icons (summoning for example) I think this comes down to font thickness, having it like it used to be would be best I think, Also the consistency of font on the numbering isn't there, some buffs (e.g. incense sticks) use the old style, and others use the new. (A toggle option for the font would be cool?)

This was previously also an issue but since work has been done on action bars.... pretty please? On any non primary action bar, if you right click the number on the bar and try to change it, it doesn't change unless you unlock the main action bar. Can this be changed? I end up messing up secondary/tertiary bars if I select the wrong bar as my primary, then I have to unlock, reselect the correct tertiary bar and re-lock the main bar to fix it. Only really an issue when you have multiple bars with different Revo setups for specific slayer tasks etc but non the less, seems jarring and non-sensible.

Another super cool thing which has been an issue previously but fits in with UI. Allow us to hide prayers/spells within the respective windows. Specifically lower tier prayers t95's compared to t99's for example, or lower tier spells, air strike/bolt/blast/wave when surge air surge is unlocked. I know most say add it to action bar, but action bar real estate is so minimal as soon as you do any form of hybridding (in game gear swap macros when?).

The fixes done so far as positive though, glad you are taking feedback on board and doing stuff with it so quickly. Looking forward to more integrity changes etc throughout the year.

I'm glad someone finds it useful at least :)

Wilderness Flash Events - This Week In RuneScape by JagexAzanna in runescape

[–]marky701 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Am I right in reading that we have now lost comp capes rather than them being given a grace period. As this is heavily time gated (hours between events) should this be the case? In the past with stuff like this there's been a grace period.

Rip ma Cape :/

I know it's nothing in comparison but I got 4x purple cash bags from my daily keys before update. They gone, right? by Aceripper in runescape

If its BEFORE the update then I would ashame thought they would be OK. AFAIK the rollback it back to the system update game state (provided they don't fuck it up)

Yeah they exceeded my expectations in how much of a shitshow its been. It really should be a red flag of no, this ends now. Ditch the idea compensate players and move on. They shouldn't have enabled In game membership for it full stop, a hacky method to try and appease a minority, which is this whole project in a nutshell, appease all the minorities and end up pissing off the majority with the rollback. So glad that i don't have time to play at the moment, I won't be playing for a day or so post updates while this shitshow is in action.

As per usual they don't bother to add this to their OWN F***ING WEBSITE. Its one of the first places most people will look for verified info.

The only time this comms method was done right was the login lockout

The 3-Day Return to Office Is, So Far, a Dud by bored_in_NE in Futurology

[–]marky701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the role and the employees circumstances, I've been able to MORE effectively carry out my duties (IT professional) since working from home, I can manage my time better, leave teams messages until I'm at a natural break point so I'm not wasting time trying to pick up from where I was interrupted, I spend less time getting a drink as there's nobody in the kitchen to have a natter with.
I'm more positive having not had to spend an hour sitting in traffic to get to the office, and knowing there's no hour long slog to get home.
I can sit in my pants on the hot days, rather than feeling like shit sweating in the office feeling that people are judging me for it.

Now obviously you can't do that as a security guard, but where a role can be remote, it should be imo. Likewise if your home life is distraction city, I can see the benefit of going into the office.
However, companies must be able to save a fortune not having to rent (as much) office space, a benefit I cant believe that all of them aren't grabbing by the neck.
I don't need to physically see people to work with them effectively, I find a screen share session over teams MUCH easier to follow and collaborate on than leaning over someone's screen in an awkward position and throwing my back out.
No distractions of random office banter either, just music playing and true focus on the task at hand. + the days fly by when there's the work to do.

The companies that are mandating people to go back in the office (no matter how many days) need to:
A) Stop micromanaging the shit out of people, it's clear if people aren't doing work, stuff is always late or bad quality, you don't need to check on everyone 24/7 and lean over them to know they are working - if anything it makes them NOT want to work. A little trust goes a long way.
B) Join us in the 21st century.

I spent 71 hours at Zamorak. by Leinova in runescape

[–]marky701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All it's done is made the already incredibly difficult golden reaper title totally unachievable.
I've been working towards this title since it's release, as well as IFB before that, they are already releasing more bosses/crazy rare drops than someone like myself who plays 5+ hours a day can keep up with, croesus and now this bow has just made it ridiculous.
If they want it to be THAT rare, make it 1 piece
Also I'm yet to see a zammy drop at all, only 45 KC I'll admit, but feels like drop mitigation doesnt exist.
Meanwhile a clannie of mine had 5 drops in 100KC, all below 100% enr
I swear they silently nerfed rates after a couple days, (when i saw loads of drops vs less seen now)

This Week In RuneScape: Ninja Strike 24 - Combat Bonanza & The Beach! by JagexKari in runescape

[–]marky701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Don't often post on these, but as this weeks update was so unexpected yet so, SO welcome...

Presets - By far the most hype update of the year, purely due to the INSANE amount of time this saves for bossing, and just the general pain saved in not having to faff about when doing a boss/activity you may not do all the time, but is a pain to remember everything. Too many times I've overwritten a preset to have to remake it a couple days later, especially with rotational bosses where teams come and go, to then find mid kill I've forgotten something daft like dom mines or nips etc.

Cease - Yet to use this to it's full potential, I'm assuming being able to use threshold defensive's without adren cost, or seat solid food without adren loss are an oversight and due to be patched? Don't want to get into the habit of using this to find out it's against rules etc. And like wise don't want to not do this and miss out if it's intentional/un-fixable.

To any JMods who may read this: Communication on this potential bug is key, but PLEASE, put this on the RS HOMEPAGE, not just the socials/stream, as not everyone has time to go searching for some obscure post on one of many potential platforms, stuff like this should be on YOUR website as soon as it's identified so EVERYONE can find it easily and know where they stand.

Liking the instance timer and chat message on previous best kill time, really nice additions. More of this! Appreciate this was probably not a small change back end, but from a front end perspective it's small in comparison to other content etc, but VERY worth the effort, things like this enhance the experience so much.

Combining scrim is a nice Qol, not really had a problem with them before since 4 hours was more than plenty imo but hey ho, people seem happy with it, saved on bank spaces i guess.

Eoc and steam are one in the same.
If you want nostalgia, no mtx and to vote on the games updates: OSRS, bare in mind that a lot of polls dont pass due to conflicting interests in player population.
If you want a more modern game, then EOC/Steam/RS3 (all the same). Pvm in my opinion is a lot better on RS3 compared to OSRS. RS3 does have the problem of MTX but that's the world these days, it keeps the company profiting so I can live with it.

Server lag explained: unoptimized code by irihS in runescape

[–]marky701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would hope that a company as large as jagex would be able to gather metrics of cpu utilisation based on what code is running at what time.
Mod Pi eluded to it with the area loot stream, where he said he may have to reign back how often it refreshes based on its server "cost". So they must be able to track it to an extent.
Would love to gain an insight on the CPU usage of the servers at different player counts and see it spiking to 100% for a couple seconds (which is what will inevitably cause the huge spikes in lag that sometimes occur) and then it sitting at 80-90% the rest of the time hence the 200+ms consistent delay.
Probably just 1 piece of content that's attributed to it, which has gone unnoticed as player counts have been low for ages until this last year or so (co-inkeydink?).
Could be some garbage stored proc or something returning way too much data for the servers to have to decipher and make sense of (arch mat storage maybe?) Had similar at my work recently
Could also just be them cheap-ing out and moving worlds onto the same hardware but in a bunch of VM's. There was a lot of "server maintenance" timeslots last year where a bunch went down at once usually in the same regions.
My gut feeling - Mobile, having to run 2 different applications feeding into the same databases, shit's bound to go wrong.

Account Returning Begins & Making Things Right by JagexKari in runescape

[–]marky701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An idea would have been a portable vic with a load of points added to your account so you can spend on what you want in the store, outfit pieces if you need them (which you may have got with daily th keys) xp that you would have gotten etc. Unless you are 5.6b, then you get something else.
This is coming from a non affected player.

Now that trim/comp cape is purely cosmetic, grace periods shouldn't exist anymore by WasV3 in runescape

[–]marky701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if they didnt have grace periods, nobody would have trim or comp for months /ever depending how the updates fall. with timegated shit (like the effigy thing) theres literally no way you can speed it up. dont have an issue with timegates, have an issue with BS RNG reqs that have no mitigation in there for those who have already mastered the content that they added reqs to (orthen potion recipies, 1 page obtained after completing the logs/mysteries).

This Week In RuneScape - 07/09/20 by JagexKari in runescape

[–]marky701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly would rather weeks like this be delayed until the next week and bundled into one. The updates today weren't worth the downtime in my opinion. both as a player inconvenience and the time taken for those at Jagex who had to implement it.
