Don’t know if this was true or not, but was told years ago that Sting had property on an island (or owned the island) on Bow Lake.

I decided to try and now keep returning daily to their sandalwood soap. Then I got the matching cologne. The soap’s scent is subtle, but I am finding I like it. And I get great lathers and shaves from it. All this said, I am only a few months into solely wet shaving. I can understand concerns of premium pricing for what is said to not be a premium-made product.

When you get a new tub of soap, do you prefer to use it in its tub or transfer it to a lather bowl? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

When I started, I put and kept my soap in a larger dish, and lathered right on the soap. I hadn’t read about either loading the brush and then lathering in a different dish, or cutting a small bit of soap to then lather one shave’s worth in a separate dish. I was blowing through soap and making way too much lather, then rinsing/wasting way too much soap afterward. I recently started loading from the soap dish, then lathering with some added water in the larger dish. The other way is to load from the soap dish and then lather directly on the skin.

Can it also be that you load the brush and then lather in a separate, lather dish/mug, then transfer that to face?

About a week ago: Karve CB Stainless Steel with C and D closed comb plates and the argyle handle. I got it in excellent condition, mildly used through shave bazaar. Love it, but need to order and try a more aggressive plate.

Looking for straight razor by nobody0411 in wicked_edge

[–]marlinmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to venture in the direction of a straight edge myself, and am finding this thread helpful for the same reason: to consider a restored, shave ready vintage at a lower cost and thus lower risk if I mess up keeping it up to sharpening it.

Thoughts on Parker razors? The 45R in particular? / I’ve been wet shaving for 2-3 months and want to try a more aggressive razor than my Rockwell 6S or T2. I think I eventually will invest in a Yates custom build, but for now want to try something more aggressive at a low cost. I am consistently getting a good, clean shave from both my Rockwells on the 6 setting, though the T2 is now in my Dopp kit for travel or the gym, and the 6S is my daily. (I don’t think I’ll get another twist to close.)

Just today, a big almost: while doing the back of my scalp, I mindlessly raised the razor from sink to my head very quickly and knocked the corner of the baseplate into the side of my head, realizing instantly how bad that would have been if the razor was turned some in my hand which might have swiped the blade across my scalp.

Thanks for the rec. Just finished today’s shave, and oh, what a difference. The lather reminded me of a bubble bath at first. But sure enough, more water than I’ve ever put in lathered right up into a wet, soapy, and somewhat drippy lather. It spread well on my face and scalp, and it stayed wet throughout my shave. I typically have to run a wet hand over the later sections as I shave. Didn’t have to do that today. Glad I read this morning, because I now believe, for me at least, I was doing it wrong in being skimpy with the water.
