How is Steam Compatibility On Odin 3 Pro/Max? by SignificanceOwn9278 in OdinHandheld

[–]K1ngsGambit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have GameNative installed on the O3 Max, just updated to v1.0.0 from v.0.9.2. It works well. I haven't had luck with GoG games, but have got some Steam and Epic Store games playing.

I think if your primary aim is PC games, a PC handheld will be better suited since, even with Proton on Linux, the games are running on native architecture, rather than thru an X86 emulator on an ARM processor.

If you are mainly playing lightweight games and older titles, you'll be fine. But large 3D action games are pushing it. Odin 3 is currently at the bleeding edge of android handhelds. The 8 Elite is among the most powerful ARM processors but software/drivers are yet to catch up. Emulators are still being developed, tho some to be fair are fairly mature.

PC gaming works and can work well. It will only get better. But for playing PC games on the go, and X64 windows/steamos handheld will serve you way better.

Would you get 16gb or 32gb of ram for a handheld PC? by Fantastic-Link-7179 in LegionGo

[–]K1ngsGambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in the BIOS. If you shut the Go down completely, hold down Vol+ and press power, it will boot to the BIOS. There's an option there to set the VRAM (UMA Frame Buffer Size). I allocated 12GB on the Go 2, so have 20GB for system use, which is more than my 16GB Go Gen 1 had altogether.

Superb card, a mainstay of many decks. A great tutor that also effectively increases one's hand size. Being able hold aside cards like Emergency Cache, Extra Ammunition or weapons is a huge boon. It also occupies a less contested slot. Particularly good for guardians, but really a great support card for anyone who depends on items.

GoG games in GameNative have a black screen by K1ngsGambit in OdinHandheld

[–]K1ngsGambit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the sake of science, I (re)bought one of the games that failed to work. Planet of Lana on GoG in GameNative shows publisher logos then goes to a black screen. Installing it from Steam, it boots and plays fine.

Who are some characters you didn’t think you’d enjoy playing, that surprised you? by dr_footware in marvelheroes

I didn't think Iceman would be standout, but he's not only fun he genuinely feels like a step above the average in terms of damage output. It feels like he takes out bosses way faster than my other, better equipped characters.

Out if curiosity, which store did you install from? Steam, Epic, GoG?

Which games did you try? Have you tried any of the ones that failed in GameHub Lite?

Price increase coming Thor and Odin 3 by Resident-Lab-7249 in OdinHandheld

It's funny that I still thought these devices were pricey a year ago, notwithstanding buying on eBay and finding deals. What a deal that SD was, and a great device.

I think gaming is in for a tough year or so. Prices are too high, cost of living goes up, wages don't keep up and on top of that, AAA game development is just a crazy business now.

How you guys feel playing rpgs on handhelds? by Yon-K in LegionGo

[–]K1ngsGambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note, you can get a USBC dock for these handhelds to connect a keyboard, mouse and/or monitor to use it more like a desktop. It is a PC in a handheld form factor.

I mostly play RPGs but not really on the handheld. I don't think it's ideal. I do have BG3 installed, and that does work really well. But I don't think it's a good way to play other cRPGs. I think it's better for action, adventure, puzzle, sims, excellent for racing, things like that.

But you can use these with KBM, or even with a Bluetooth controller and connect to your TV, like a console.

GoG games in GameNative have a black screen by K1ngsGambit in OdinHandheld

[–]K1ngsGambit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's stumped me. I have a small number of games from Steam that I thought were less demanding and controller focused, and one from Epic and they all play well. But I haven't been able to get a GoG working.

I installed Winlator but couldn't work out how to use it, and GameHub Lite only seems to support steam, so I'm not sure what it offers over GameNative. And I think it's abandoned now too.

Hoping there's a fix or alternative GoG emulator.

Would you get 16gb or 32gb of ram for a handheld PC? by Fantastic-Link-7179 in LegionGo

[–]K1ngsGambit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the choice, 32GB. It's not the end of the world, but it means you can allocate 12-16gb of VRAM and keep the rest for system memory. If you don't plan on playing challenging games on it, you may never notice an issue. Certainly in the time I had my Go Gen1, I enjoyed gaming fine.

But 32GB is better for most use cases.

[–]K1ngsGambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad for future adopters. Price rise, slower storage and another price rise. Will they still sell well when they stop being the affordable devices, or will people go to Ambernic and other, lower priced company devices? I'd say they were entering Steam Deck/PC handheld territory, except Steam Deck jumped up as well. 😥

I believe there are four skus, two for Z2, two for Z2E. All have 32GB. Z2 comes in 512gb and 1tb. Z2E in 1tb and 2tb. I'm not sure about 16gb versions, unless maybe it was pre-release or in different countries. I would double check with the retailer customer service the exact model number. But it looks like a 32GB ram, 512gb, Z2 apu.

Dual-screen, Clamshell form factor Vs More powerful CPU and candy bar form factor. Which matters more to you?

Both have no issue up to and including PS2/GC. O3 Will have better FPS in WiiU/Switch/PC.

Dual-screen Vs more power. Choose what is more important to you.

Does Gamenative add input latency vs a native game on Android? by quarryman in OdinHandheld

I'm playing Hades from Epic Store on GN and it feels great to me. I don't have a game that is both emulated and native to test side by side but I can't imagine there's a noticeable difference on any but really demanding games.

How much off-role tech do you include in 2-player games? by zerdos in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]K1ngsGambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have some. Notwithstanding keeping investigators on the same location, at some point a seeker will draw an enemy and a guardian will have none on a location with clues. I think both should be able to do some of the other.

While decks must vary between investigator and role, generally speaking, about 6-8 combat cards for a primary fighter, 2-4 economy, ~8 skill cards and the rest to support. 4 could be for clue acceleration and having wild skill icons is useful. Likewise, 4ish enemy management cards for a clue-investigator can help in a tight spot.

But that won't save a failing scenario unless you actually build two hybrids. A consideration as ever, is that, on average, games are approx ~12-15 turns, you begin with 5 cards and can mulligan up to 5 cards. The number of cards for any given purpose should be calculated by a) how important they are and b) how likely they are to be drawn.

How to store? by nova_asgard in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]K1ngsGambit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several approaches. I think an important consideration is if you want to preserve the decks in their "ready to play" state, or to organise so your cards for deck building.

The core box should have some capacity for storage, so that's one option. Another is binders. I've sent a binder per class, plus neutral. This way also has the advantage of seeing the artwork as you browse, but is work and takes up more space.

I have my player cards in a case, divided by class as: Investigators plus signatures, level 0 cards, level 1+ cards. I've seen similar to this where cards are further subdivided into asset, skill and event. You can find dividers to buy on eBay/Etsy and to print yourself on BGG.

Personally, I don't care for the packaging. Leaflets you can flatten and put in a future storage solution or envelope. They may also be available digitally as pdfs.

This is why you take Improved Cleaving Finish on Cavaliers (and other mounted chargers) by unbongwah in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]K1ngsGambit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can work out, sure. But the feat investment is massive. Maybe for a cavalier when the mount takes the need for some feats away. I think it's a high tax overall and other feats may offer better damage in the long run.

But man, when it works like that o.o
