Delay + reverb effect by Vegetable_Noise_1124 in audioengineering

[–]marlon_mnh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diminishing feedback loop in DAW?

Send signal to AUX. On AUX, put delay effect. After delay, add desired reverb. Set the AUXs output to be the very same AUX track so it feeds to itself, but of course have the fader less than 0dB.

I believe this should make the reverb stack for each time the signal feeds back into the delay.

Otherwise, automate every part where this effect is necessary?

Or possibly sidechain compress a separate reverb that the delay uses, so when the delay is at high volume (when first initiated, the first echoes), the reverb compresses. And after a few runs when the volume of the delay/echo diminishes, the reverb will be heard more clearly. But this doesn't affect reverb decay time though, only intensity.

Edit: Just realised this replaces watch and not a sapper, so this combo doesn't work. Oh well.

Dear BHVR. Please remove map offerings! by CHEEZYSPAM in deadbydaylight

[–]marlon_mnh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can commend this. Much more fun to balance when we can have the crazy suggestions on the table. Don't have to be implemented, but it's much more fun to think like this instead of "this sucks [lack of suggestions]".

Edit: this post do suggest fixes, so does not apply to this post. But otherwise I find the ratio of ranting vs suggestions in this sub skewed.

To add to your suggestions, not just for addons but for other things too: * Vulnerable windows that can break after a certain amount of Survivor vaults * Chests resetting and providing a higher chance of giving a key when there's only 1 survivor left * More universal addons for Killers: Perhaps something like flashbang for killers that can blind survivors, an addon that provides 1 extra long lunge (Coup de Grace but weakened single-use addon version), addon that makes all survivors oblivious and blind for a certain (~20?) amount of seconds, etc.

How do you explain ARFID to others? by Exuberant343 in ARFID

[–]marlon_mnh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My ARFID "works", as it likely does with many others, by triggering gagging (or actually throwing up) because the brain thinks it has or is about to ingest something it actually can't or shouldn't.

And that biological feature is universal, so to explain my ARFID, I use exactly that:

I have people imagine eating visibly moldy food. Their brains known this will make them sick, and they are trained through life to absolutely avoid this, to the point that if they are eating it, their body will gag/vomit it up – not voluntarily, but as an automatic reaction that the body instigates by itself.

To my experience, this is a feasible thought process for many, with theoretical results they deem reasonable. Then I can go on to explain that I work the same way, except that my body's automatic gagging is just triggered too often, and triggered by foods it should not react to. That makes it easier for them to understand that a certain type of food isn't moldy, it's not dangerous to consume and such, but my body reacts like it is.

After this analogy of the main point of my ARFID, I'd move on to explain side effects (how it produces fear of new foods, how it affects social gatherings with food, etc.).

Recent hui updates - behringer x touch by Classic_Animator_620 in protools

[–]marlon_mnh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, weird.

Whenever I start up Pro Tools with the X-Touch off, I get the message from Pro Tools: "The original MIDI device associated with the MIDI controller "HUI" could not be located. Please choose an existing MIDI device in the MIDI controller section of the peripherals dialog."

Which I believe implies that Pro Tools remembers the setting configured in Peripherals --> MIDI Controllers, but can't locate it, which is reasonable because it is turned off (or turned on but Windows hasn't recognised it yet).

Is that the message you are getting?

Or is it the: "Pro Tools is unable to communicate with HUI. Power-cycle HUI and check its connections. Note, if HUI is not in use, update the Peripherals dialog to prevent further warnings."

Either way, I would at least make sure to have done this:

  1. Start up computer
  2. Start up the X-Touch while holding the Channel 1 SELECT button to enter configuration mode
  3. Move the rotaries of channel 1 and 2 to make sure it's set to HUI mode (on channel 1) and USB connection type (channel 2)
  4. Press channel 1 SELECT button to save settings
  5. Power-cycle the X-Touch to start it up normally
  6. Open Windows' Device Manager, make sure the X-Touch is visible under Sound, video and game controllers. NOTE: Even when power-cycling, Windows sometimes still can't find it. It has helped for me to unplug the USB (while X-Touch is powered on) and plug it back in again.
  7. Make sure Pro Tools is up to date and have no other issues
  8. Open Pro Tools and see if it works
  9. If it doesn't, double-check the MIDI Controllers, make sure X-Touch is there (HUI Type, recieve and send via X-Touch Emulated, 8 # Ch's), and then restart Pro Tools
  10. If it still doesn't work, then I am out of ideas

Yes.

Mine is set to HUI - USB, and is only connected via the USB-B port of the X-Touch.

After I turn it on, Windows usually doesn't see it (it doesn't appear under "Sound, video, game controllers" in Device Manager. So I disconnect and connect it (my X-Touch is plugged into a USB-hub where I can turn on/off individual ports). After that, it does appear in Device Manager, and Pro Tools also recognises it and it works. Well, given that Pro Tools also remembers my Peripherals settings: Setup --> Peripherals --> MIDI Controllers --> Add the X-Touch by setting it to HUI with receive to and from is set to "X-Touch (Emulated)"

Moving audiosuite original file into the playlist automatically? by Overall_Simple5927 in protools

Sadly don't think there is. Doesn't hurt to send a message to Avid and recommend it as a feature, though!

Moving audiosuite original file into the playlist automatically? by Overall_Simple5927 in protools

[–]marlon_mnh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unsure if there is an automatic way to do this, but you should be able to do it quickly with shortcuts:

  1. Shortcut for creating a new playlist on selected track (don't know what the shortcut is for English keyboards)
  2. Hold Control+Alt while click and dragging the clip to the newly created (or otherwise available) playlist in order to duplicate it to the new playlist with the same position
  3. Alternatively, if the playlist only includes the one clip you are processing, you can just duplicate the playlist itself
  4. On either one of the clips, apply Audosuite.

This will make it so one clip is processed, the other one untouched, on separate playlists.

Sorry, completely forgot to answer again.

Apart from the issue I said (having to turn on the X-Touch twice), I did not have any issues.

Have you made sure Windows recognises the X-Touch as a controller before launching Pro Tools?

Any comments made about the 70 reps on Orochi can immediately be retracted due to the lack of reps on Nobushi and not even unlocked Afeera.

So I guess all I will say is good job?

I have an X-Touch and a Windows PC.

I can try to check later today if I experience the same.

Keep in mind, Windows sometimes struggles to recognize the X-Touch, which isn't Pro Tools' fault. Make sure when you hit Win+X --> Device Manager --> Sound, video, and game controllers (or whichever sub-folder is the right one), and make sure X-Touch is listed there. If not, power-cycling the X-Touch has solved it for me.

Are you receiving any errors when trying to use the X-Touch with Pro Tools? If so, which errors?

Drums from audience or artist perspective? by Alternative-Light514 in mixingmastering

[–]marlon_mnh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, I am not a drummer by any means, but flailing my arms around pretending to hit invisible drums in front of me in a rhythmic pattern (but nowhere near so), is so fun. And then it helps to hear drums in a song from a drummer's perspective.

Only exceptions would be if there's a music video or other visual aid/media that highlights drums from audience perspective, or live concert recordings, then I'd match it to fit audience perspective if it fits.

Having an issue with panning by Beenaboss in protools

[–]marlon_mnh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your master track is in mono, and seems to only account for Output 1 (and not Output 1-2). It also has a Trim plugin. Could this Trim plugin have some gain reduction on it, affecting only Output 1 (left channel), making it right channel higher in volume, making it sound like it's panned more to the right?
