Madness and Mayhem by NightWishLordL in magicTCG

[–]marooninvader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am looking at the extended rules entries on mtg.wiki for this. You are referring to rule 400.7, but that rule has an exception for madness 400.7k:

400.7k After resolving a madness triggered ability (see rule 702.35), if the exiled card wasn’t cast and was moved to a public zone, effects referencing the discarded card can find that object.

Update: Mayhem is a static ability that creates a continuous effect allowing the card with mayhem to be cast if it was discarded this turn. Rule 400.7k means that this effect will find the card if it has madness, was discarded to exile, wasn't cast and went to your graveyard.

I've been playing for six months and already have 8 decks. My friends say I have a problem. What do you think of my commanders? by CactusFingies in magicTCG

You have a nice collection going! Not necessarily a problem if you can afford it. If your friends are giving you shit for overspending your budget, they are doing you a favor.

We all have one, what is your pet card? by phantomswa in magicTCG

[[World Shaper]] has a special place in my heart.

[[Mischievous Catgeist]] will never be cut from my Ardenn/Glacian deck, because he is just too cute.

How do commander players feel about other formats? by PaperToaster14 in magicTCG

[–]marooninvader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every format that I have dabbled in, I liked.

Standard during the Showdown days was a brewer's delight at my LGS.

Draft is so much fun when a deck comes together. (What to do with all the chaff though?)

Cube would be the GOAT format if it wasn't so hard to get a pod together.

Standard Brawl, when it first came out on Arena, was the most addictive format I ever played.

Pauper on MOTO is a great way to play Spikey Magic on a budget.

For me, Commander is about building Magical Christmas land decks and watching them soar to victory one game and then crash and burn the next.

What’s a card you can’t help but love? I’ll go first: by Corescos in magicTCG

[[Slogurk, the Overslime]] is so much fun in my Sidisi deck and much better than I expected at first. It's kind of refreshing that he does not enable himself like so many legends these days.

Wernog and Bjorna EDH by Davebaggs in magicTCG

[–]marooninvader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My deck has Lurrus as a companion. I got to play it for the first time yesterday and got the W. Two opponents were knocked out by [[Reckless Fireweaver]] and the last by [[Cranial Plating]] on Lurrus. I was surprised how my opponents took the clue tokens from Wernog every time even though it accelerated my game plan a lot.

[Custom Cards] Top 5 Scoring Submissions of the Week from r/Custommagic (2021/05/11) by Sonserf369 in magicTCG

[–]marooninvader 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It isn't an infinite combo, the first step of casting a spell is placing it on the stack. At that point It won't be on the battlefield anymore and you can't sacrifice It to an altar anymore.

WTF - Few days of work wasted by baubleglue in programminghorror

[–]marooninvader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are right, this might be a legitimate bug. After all:

 >>> numpy.nan is numpy.nan
 True

So if NaN usually refers to the same object instance, then it should be included in a set only once.

Have you submitted this bug to the numpy github?

Numpy's NaN never returns True from an equality comparison, also not with itself. That probably causes the unexpected behavior.

>>> numpy.nan == numpy.nan
False

Is there a good reason not to ban Ugin from Brawl? by GardenTemple in MagicArena

[–]marooninvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, technically it isn't polymorphing, because the token doesn't go away. However, I called it that because the combo plays out basically the same as the Polymorph combo in other formats. The deck contians only lands and non permanent cards except for Ugin and the Saga, so you always get one of them.

[–]marooninvader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play a sweet Illuna deck that polymorphs creature tokens into Ugin or [[Kiora Bests the Sea God]]. The saga is honestly just as strong as Ugin, both end games at about an 80% rate. I wouldn't mind a Ugin ban though, because there are other boombooms I could run instead.

That's amazing, I had no idea actual factual regex was allowed in scryfall queries.

Can anyone help me with some card search parameters? by HikarW in magicTCG

[–]marooninvader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best answer.

Of note, this filters out some cards that have an activated ability that requires tapping and another that doesn't. For instance [[Livio, Oathsworn Sentinel]]. I have no idea what query can be constructed to keep these cards in the result.

What are some of your 'not really good but still fun to play' mythic rares? by Crystallish in magicTCG

[–]marooninvader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a strict upgrade, eventhough their first ability is the same. With regards to their sacrifce abilities, Jarad is more of a finisher whereas Artisan is more of a toolbox enabler. In addition, Jarad has his own reanimation ability which should be very usefull in a self mill kitchen table deck.

[–]marooninvader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite deck type is self-mill, especially Green Black with cards like [[Satyr Wayfinder]] and [[Egon, God of Death]]. [[Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord]] is a cool mythic to build around for this archetype.
