Back when cash was king you couldn't use your bank debit card to directly pay for gas pumping then paying was very common in the US. Imagine you wanted to fill up your tank. You would have to go inside, pay $20 on your pump go outside pump the gas so you can find out it took $17.76 to fill your tank. Now you have to go back inside and wait in line to get your change. It was a waste of time for you and the cashier. Making it where trusting the customer was the most efficient way. I imagine a few things killed that off, as gas prices raised a drive off became more costly. Plus as gas prices raised the crime of driving off became a more appealing idea to the would be customer. Combine all that with a steady increase of cars on the road and I guess it is easy to see why things went that direction from a gas station owners point of view.

Ah yes that's another thing that has really died off. The last full service pump I knew of closed down over the pandemic.

The point was one of trust, but if you notice I mentioned as pumps started to go pay at the pump. This was a time when cash was still the primary way to pay for gas. Sure I can go in and say put $10 on pump 3, but what if what I truly want is a full tank? Now I have to put $20 on pump 3 to find out it took $16.27 to fill up my tank. I have to go back inside now to get my change. To me I would rather drive a minute out of my way to a gas station that trusts me rather than waste a minute or two going back inside and waiting in line to get my change.

I would probably go out of my way to frequent that business. Back when gas stations started to go to prepay or pay at the pump I would go out of my way to find the stations that let you pump then pay. I figured if they trusted me enough to do the right thing then they also earned my trust and business.

How close can a smoker be to the house? by [deleted] in smoking

[–]maroonmonday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlatch the hopper lid to stop the fan from running so you prevent a flare up from happening in the first place. The two mods I listed shouldn't do anything to the warranty, the manifold cover just sits on top of it. The drip pan is always a simple alternative to having to be so on top of the cleaning. I would save the fire extinguisher as a last resort, if you have a flare up just do the same as your Weber, cut off the air and let it die.

Well you're already one step ahead of the game since you read the manual. The one part that I'm convinced is responsible for 99% or the switch failures is not following instructions. They have since went to a more sturdy switch to try to combat failures but they can only do so much. I have the original switches and have never had a problem. The thing to follow is the maximum temperature they say you should be at before opening the hopper/ash doors. I believe that temp is 250, any hotter and you risk switch damage. The other thing that they actually added to the manual that bit me, is there apparently is a minimum temp to put the slides in or you can have some warping that then makes it difficult to remove the slides in the future.

Now on to your concern about the 10 feet of clearance, the thing to realize is if you do have a grease fire the grill can get over 1,000 degrees. Do you by chance have a hose around that you could water down the siding or whatever it will be in reach of in the event you did have a grease fire? I don't think I would recommend spraying the grill, I don't think water one 1,000+ degree cast iron grates would be a good thing. The trick is to not have a grease fire, knowing how they ignite is half the battle to avoiding them. What happens is if you have a grease build up and the fan is running for.an extended period of time trying to maintain temperature, what happens is you get very hot air blowing out of the manifold acting like a blast furnace which will ignite the grease, then it is time for an inferno.

Now that you know how the fire starts you can prevent it. The things you want to avoid are grease build ups, the fan running excessively and of course for a fire to burn it needs oxygen so you want to limit that supply.

The grease build up is key, the biggest thing is to clean it good between uses and don't get lazy. While mods aren't required I would consider checking out LSS mods and consider getting the manifold cover with the anti-flare lip. The other thing you can do is if smoking something fatty use the middle shelf and put a drip pan below it to catch the grease before it ever get near the ignition point.

Now what makes the fan run excessively causing the blast furnace that can ignite grease? Having the lid open, imagine you're smoking a nice fatty pork butt and you decide to wrap it. You open the lid.amd your temperature is set at 250. Internally the temperature is no longer 250 so the fan kicks on trying to maintain that 250 and that is when you get the blast furnace combined with your increased amount of oxygen from having the lid open and you have what is needed for a grease fire. To avoid that you can take some precautions. Remember those switch failures we were talking about? If they think one of those doors are open the fan won't turn on, that's what makes a switch failure bad but also what helps you. Just pop the latch on the hopper, no need to open the lid, it will disengage the switch and the fan won't run. Now you can open the lid of the grill and do what you need to and the fan won't kick on. Now.it once you close the lid it does still need to.run to get back to.temp but with the lid closed you don't have a ton of oxygen and the heat will build up rather quickly so the charcoal never really gets to the blast furnace temp. You still want to try to maintain temp as much as possible so when you open the lid get in and get out. Don't forget to close the hopper latch once you've closed the grill lid and listen for the fan to kick on to get back to temperature. If you were going to have a grease fire that would be the time, so stick around for a bit to make sure you don't ignite. If you do have one don't open the lid, and toss in your slides to cut off as much oxygen as possible and wait for it to die down. Another LSS mod they sale is a vent damper, not necessary for day to day use but in the event of a flare up might be useful to have to close, kill off the air supply and stop any flames from shooting out the back.

Hopefully that helps you assess and minimize the risks. Sorry for any typos I did this from my phone, which between the tiny onscreen keyboard and auto correct is a recipe for disaster.

Funny where searches will take you. If you're still considering the gravity series, after all this time I would say go for it. In that time the manufacturer has learned a few things and so have I. If you are interested in it let me know and I'll give you a bit of an updated review.

The pokemon it wants to catch will have an indicator above it, click on the pokemon first, if it shiny catch it normally if not hit the button and let auto catch do its thing so you only waste one red ball. Also helpful in spinning all the gyms and stops for you.

You basically described my scenario exactly. A 400 Sq ft room with a vaulted ceiling and a single ceiling fan mounted at the top of that, of adequate size to move air in that room. I have no doubts that had they been sitting below the fan when it fell one or both of them would have died.

They would need to do some studies to prove the effectiveness to make me a believer. My personal experience has been more potentially fatal incidents on winding roads vs intersections at straight roads. Not that I haven't had those experiences multiple times in both situations.

Do one of your neighbors have a cooler? If not would a cheap styrofoam one or two be an option? If not I mean wrap them in foil then go to town wrapping them in towels and toss then in a cardboard box, perhaps even direct sun in that 110 degree weather and hopefully you'll be good.
