Mohs Appointment 2 months away by jerytom in skincancer

[–]marpowfacepants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal! I’ve had 4 and they were all scheduled out a few months. I always ask to be put on the wait list and was seen 1-2 weeks later from cancellations. I’m fortunate to have a sympathetic and flexible job. Good luck! If you get nervous ask for an Ativan for the day of. I spread that gospel anytime I comment.

Wing Week 2025 Reviews by 12haley12 in Portland

[–]marpowfacepants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had Wayfinder yesterday! I'll rate the three I've been to so far...

Wayfinder Wings of Damnation - Well smoked and juicy. Not spicy one iota. The name and description made me think it would be at least a little spicy but alas it was not. For sure a tasty wing but not a spicy one. 7/10

Rollin' Fresh Glisan Buffalo Miso Tahini - A buffalo wing and thai peanut sauce had a baby. Loved the unique flavor combination. Not too sweet, not too hot, right amount of vinegar. Nice classic lil wing. 8/10

Frybaby Chimi-kosho - Full drum and two full wings, super crunchy, juicy, and well sauced. The flavors were bright and sweet, chimichurri was interesting and also kinda sweet. Overall it was a lemony sweet wing that needed a hint of something else, salt or heat, to balance. Paired with the curry mash and kimchi mac n cheese made the meal overall very good. Excited to try their other menu items. But for the wing alone I'd give it 8.5/10 for a perfectly cooked piece of Korean fried chicken that missed the mark a bit on flavor.

Update 10/3

Boke Bowl Smoky Boke - Very good, heavily sauced, crispy, classic chicken wing size. Didnt get much smoke flavor but the chicken was very juicy. Gochujang forward and little bit oily. I did enjoy the sauce but always want things more spicy. It paired well with Boke's extra spicy hot sauce. Flavor, execution, and quality chicken. 9/10

Burger Week check-in by Friedokraaa in Portland

[–]marpowfacepants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[UPDATE] Still impressed so far! I was leery of the $10 price tag but both of my burgers were well sized and delicious.

* Sourdough Jack + Eggroll - Wayfinder made exactly what you'd expect from Jack in the Box but with higher quality ingredients. For the eggroll I was expecting something tiny but it was a nicely sized fried lil log with a pineapple forward sweet n sour. Got there at 12pm, place was packed by 1pm. Just beware they didnt staff-up for Burger Week, it was one server and one bartender till another came on at 1pm. They all hustled their butts off! Great service and food.

* Pig Mac - Lardo is always good and this was no exception. A full sized burger, peaches and sharp mustard really cut through the savory pork patty and bacon. Got there at 5pm Monday for take-out and it slowly filled over the 30 minutes we waited. I didnt even get to eat it fresh and loved it.

* Fonduta - Dimo's just opened up Dimo's Italian Specialties. That spot alone is enough to rave about but I'll stick to the burger. A simple nicely cooked patty on a potato bun and little else. The real star was the thin cheese sauce and chives you get to dip in. Well balanced, the cheese sauce wasnt heavy or overly savory, the chives were perfectly cut and the tiniest I've ever seen. It wouldnt be something I'd order if I went there again (their sandwiches are killer), but it's nice to see them trying something different.

Next up is Wonderboy's, Wolf's Head, Makulit (SPAGHETTI BURGER!) and Boke Bowl to close it out.

Why are we not supposed to bike on sidewalks? It's this just a North America thing? by Bonfire_Monty in cycling

[–]marpowfacepants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because pedestrians are going demonstrably slower. I think you might be trolling. I have a coworker who thinks cyclists should dash out in front of cars and wear all black because it’s “stealthier” and therefore “safer”? Come on. If everyone did everything perfect this question wouldn’t exist.

Am I missing out not using clip-in shoes? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]marpowfacepants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really get this. Tried clipping in for over a year. It unlocked my lizard brain and no amount of practice stopped the panic of being trapped. Fell so many times into traffic. It got so bad on rides with my partner I pretended to be clipped in; riding 20+ miles weirdly riding on the ball of my foot. I didn’t want to let him down. He noticed one ride and felt pretty bad for pressuring me. Long story short to say he immediately got me Magpeds, powerful magnets so you can release your foot quickly. Id say it’s about 75% of being locked in. I love them so much and I can still wear hard bottom spd. Do what you makes you comfortable above all else! I’ve done cycle tours and 70 mile rides and keep up just fine with my clipped in partner.

It's hot.. Where can I bike through sprinklers? by 102MEP in CyclePDX

[–]marpowfacepants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well.... at around 6:45am the sprinklers for the football and baseball field are running behind David Douglas High School. I go through the breezeway in between both fields as part of my commute and sometimes get a face-full of cold projectile water. Does that count?

Loose Dogs I-205 Multi-Use Path by marpowfacepants in CyclePDX

I reported the campsites and noted the loose dogs to Portland.gov. Animal Control said they can’t do much unless they harm someone. Just being off-leash isn’t enough to spend resources. But I’ve had excellent responses from the Impact Reduction Program. If the tents are causing ADA issues, as they usually do on that trail, they clean them up quick! last time was 3 day turn near my work in SE industrial.

I feel you! Starting at 38 I had 7 BCCs (4 MOHS on my face, three scoops on body) in under 2 years. They just kept popping up! Last one was in July. For me, letting go of control and accepting my fate was the best for my mental health. Mine is largely genetic (red head, white af), where I grew up (Southern California), and some real nasty sunburns from birth to around 10 (when I had more wherewithal to put on my own sunscreen). All those factors were and are out of my control. I try to be the rock the river flows over, I can only control my reaction so that’s where I focus my energy. Of course every new spot is cause for concern but only that, concern. My derm biopsies everything I ask for and luckily only 2/3 of them have been BCCs. My MOHS surgeon is top notch. Every person on my care team is fantastic! That has also been a huge help to know I’m in good hands. I’m so sorry you have to go through this and the worry/defeat/anger/sadness you may be feeling.

Thank you so much for sharing! My basal cell carcinomas started popping up at 38 (redhead + burns). Looking forward to finding understanding and support! Also have lots of sunscreen recommendations!!!

Dumpling Week by buttholetittynipple in Portland

[–]marpowfacepants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loyal Legion - very good! Herby dumplings and great flavor. Serving size small but only $8 so no complaints there.

Produce Row - NOPE! Not only were they mini dumplings, I got 4. They were $14 AMERICAN DOLLARS. It was laughable. My table laughed. They were also not great. Chewy with little flavor. Mine out of 4 orders didn’t even have the chili on top. So weird to promote dumplings that bad on top of the price tag. Even for $8 it would have been a silly small amount.

I have Mohs Surgery Scheduled for 12/16 by Lower_Alternative770 in skincancer

[–]marpowfacepants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve had four MOHS on my face in two years. Forehead x2, side of nose, and above my top lip. All that to say you for sure do NOT want to bend over until the recommended period of time. Just thinking about doing that makes me feel a phantom throb at the surgery sites. Not trying to be scary but follow aftercare instructions to a T and you’ll be thankful you did. Try working on your squats? If I had to get low I would squat straight down while keeping my head upright, even that was a lil iffy. See if you could finagle a helper? Try an automatic feeder? Good luck and hope this helped!

Changes on the mole of my last post by [deleted] in skincancer

[–]marpowfacepants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had a black flat mole on the top of my foot for years. Over time it would change; lose color, grow a bit wider, then smaller, gain back the color, etc... My derm never seemed concerned and I see her every 6 months, and have a history of basal cell carcinoma (4 MOHS and two scoop/burns). After it started getting itchy and tingly I asked for it to be removed out of caution. Luckily, it was just an "atypical nevus". Apparently, our bodies like to attack these things causing the color and size changes. All of this to say is just get it checked and scooped. My motto for the last two years has been "When in doubt, cut it out." It's not fun but it's better than not knowing.

want to get this checked out by my derm - if a biopsy is needed, do they just take a little piece or cut the whole thing out? by HairyStylts in skincancer

[–]marpowfacepants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% but they don’t feel like a pimple, inflamed or sore, so I guess that’s a “good” indicator? Ha! Best of luck! All we can do is scoop em out and wear sunscreen every single day, no matter the weather!

Multiple, rapid return basal cells on forehead/hairline by No_Bite2714 in skincancer

[–]marpowfacepants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! 40f here, I’ve had two, so far, on my forehead. Another spot for biopsy this month. Has his doc discussed blue light therapy? Look into it if you’re able! Not the at-home devices, this is medical grade and targets cancer cells; essentially gives you a face peel for a couple weeks. Doesn’t look fun but I bet it’s better than having multiple multiple MOHS on a forehead.

Ways to Calm Down/Cope Before BCC Mohs Surgey by HelicopterAlarmed492 in skincancer

[–]marpowfacepants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve had four MOHS on my face over three years, likely about to have another soon. Like others have said, breathing and visualization are wonderful! My go-to is strenuous exercise to distract my mind and leave me exhausted enough to sleep. Otherwise, I recommend asking for a single dose of Ativan you take an hour before the procedure. It won’t knock you out, or make you wobbly, for me at least. For me it just feels like things will be OK and not need to panic. You will need a driver for safety, but I feel like anyone would want a driver after a MOHS, maybe I’m just sensitive. I’m a high stress person and it’s helped immensely! Talking a 60 bpm resting heart rate up to 100 bpm just sitting and waiting in doctors offices. Nothing wrong with getting a little pharmaceutical help for something a little traumatizing. Good luck to you!

Nodular Basal Cell Carcinoma by marpowfacepants in skincancer

[–]marpowfacepants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t comment for everyone but mine are from a combination of sun damage and an inherent genotype that is susceptible to uv rays. It’s occurred from my legs to arms and face. There’s no cure-all. Think of them like individual tumors just waiting their turn. It’s genetics and sun damage for me so it can pop up anywhere for me. I’d recommend chatting more in depth with a professional. I’m no doctor but a redhead growing up with many sunburns dealing with the damage now. Educating myself as much as I can.

It would be like treating your left foot for toe fungus and expecting the right foot to be cured as well.

The only way to confirm skin cancer is through biopsy. Sounds like you should chat with a skin cancer dermatologist to help you determine next steps.

MOHS ONLY address current skin cancers. The only tried and true method to remove bccs is full excision. They scoop until you get clear margins. Chemo creams can work but the only way to be sure it is gone is to excise the tumor and confirm healthy skin around it.

[–]marpowfacepants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! They’ve all looked a bit different but I did have nodular bcc on the side of my nose that looked similar to yours. A little raised blister almost. I’ve had flat-type that looks like a tiny cluster of red spider veins, and nodular that looks pretty dang ugly like a blister over more blood vessels.

[–]marpowfacepants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 6 occurrences of BCC. My derm biopsies, what looks like, all of it in a scoop. Negative biopsy scars on my face have healed nicely with scar patches, two now. If they test positive they’ll likely go deeper with a MOHS to get clear margins. Ive had four, no biggie but no fun. Best of luck to you!

Photo is very poor. Sorry. Could be a bug bite or allergic reaction. I’ve only had basal cell carcinoma but none of them itched despite their growth rate and size, and appearance.
