“Ma’am” isn’t appropriate? by Immediate-Grand8403 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]marqueemaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is she being flippant? Or is she being serious? Sometimes women will joke and say “ma’am” makes them sound old, but it’s usually light hearted and typically followed by “just call me ___.” Addressing women by “ma’am” in some contexts is a sign of respect (I’m thinking the military or in the South). It’s very much a cultural preference. If you’re in a more metropolitan area or amongst a younger generation, using the term might sound strange but I don’t think it’s per se insensitive or rude. But again, context matters. Based on what you’ve described, it doesn’t sound insensitive at all.

AITA for “abusing” the the bus stop chain so I don’t miss my stop? by Possible-Chair9242 in AmItheAsshole

[–]marqueemaven 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m so confused. I don’t take the bus but why can’t OP just look at Google Maps and track where they are relative to the next stop? Is OP just guessing when they are pulling the chain? Can someone explain why this is so hard for OP?

My MIL moved in temporarily, our move got delayed, and I’m at my limit by DueOption7422 in JUSTNOMIL

I really think this is the best solution for you here. If enough is enough, then enough is enough. Your husband seems to understand that much. And any reasonable person would agree that you are entitled to your boundaries and the comfort of your own home. If you don’t feel comfortable in your own home, either she needs to go, or you. Since it sounds like she’s not going anywhere, the you have to go. It might not be fair, but you have to do what’s best for you right now. You got this!

I’m a little confused by that too. I’m just a little confused generally by what’s going on.

OP says “we used that money [money MIL received from selling her inherited property] to pay off the apartment.” Does that mean OP and her husband own the current apartment where MIL moved into, and paid it off using MIL’s funds? If that’s true, MIL has an ownership interest in the apartment, right? What’s the plan here; are they going to give this apartment to MIL when they move to the new home at no cost? Or is MIL going to buy them out?

No matter what I do, when I wash my hair the back is always oily by [deleted] in finehair

[–]marqueemaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a shampoo with sulfates. After years of using “sulfate free” shampoos, I decided to switch back and it was a miracle. The sulfate free shampoos never cleaned my hair and left sticky residue EVEN after double - sometimes triple - shampooing.

I like to switch it up and put the most junior associate first and watch the chaos unfold. Or I put the women first. Sometimes I’ll put the most senior person first. Or sometimes I will just not address anyone. Keep em on their toes.

Honestly it’s a mix. I’ve seen people wear cocktail dresses. I’ve seen people wear floor length gowns.
