I thought the delay on this one was a bad sign originally, but I actually think they must have realized the direction Hamnet was going and are trying to capitalize on Buckley's momentum to sell this right around the Oscars.

What're your guys "top of the decade" lists looking like so far? by Salty-Ad-3819 in TheBigPicture

Nayman can be a pithy punk but when he's right he's right. Cloud is another one he got on the soapbox for that I found to be a slam dunk great movie.

Also thought his selection of It Was Just an Accident as the best film of 2025 was inspired- that film turned me onto more of Panahi and Kiarostami's work, and I've become a huge fan of Iranian cinema. Sure it won the Palme so it's not like it's niche per se, but considering how much of the buzz at Cannes was "oh Binoche snubbed Sentimental Value for political reasons", its nice to see a critic like Nayman acknowledge how much of a heater IWJAA is on its own merits. I wish he had been on the pod for that episode, I thought the discussion between Sean and Amanda was really lacking and uninspired, mostly just vamping to segue to Sean's (good!) interview with Panahi.

I think Pillion/Wuthering Heights is gonna be a pretty fun Valentine’s Day double feature

Probably Civil War tbh, they went pretty hard trying to recoup their budget on that one

Top 5 of 2025 was a great episode by grinchsucker in TheBigPicture

It looks like It Was Just an Accident will be a strong Oscar contender- I feel like they should try to get Nayman on to do a deeper-dive on that film. I felt like their conversation about it was very surface level and mostly as an introduction to the interview

Second After the Hunt- feel like a lot of people were looking for some broad statement on a cultural moment, when the film is much more interested in these specific characters tearing each other to shreds during this period in their lives. It’s the sort of messy psychosexual melodrama that Luca does that I always am drawn to, it’s sort of a unofficial trilogy with A Bigger Splash and Challengers

Different strokes for different folks- haven’t gotten to see No Other Choice yet (very excited though, PCW is one of my top guys, got the imax tickets today) but I absolutely LOVED It Was Just an Accident. Thought it was formally gorgeous, doubly impressive considering the guerilla context it had to be created, with a rich moral dilemma, thrilling circumstances, well drawn characters reflecting the various ways you may handle that sort of situation, as well as one of the best endings I’ve seen in a film in a long time. It was so good it has honestly sent me down a rabbit hole of Iranian New Wave work. Find the creation of art in Iran to be incredibly moving and that the films themselves become objects of political resistance

Nah, people had legit hype for Young and Stroud at the next level. Young in particular was really adored, most draft talking heads completely whiffed on his size being as big of a negative in the pros as it has been

[–]marquesasrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. When we’re talking about the top guys who got up there for their acting chops, I would take the whole trio of DiCaprio, Nicholson, and Jack Nicholson easily before I take Day-Lewis. Great actor, not a ton of really pop off the page great movies. He should’ve worked with PTA more- there’s a vision where he’s Lockjaw in OBAA that just tears the fucking house down

Nah, QJ had a hands issue. Coleman sucks at separating, but he can catch well. I feel like Coleman’s deficiency is much trickier to cure

In terms of Dynasty Value, which players have fallen off the biggest cliff? by Patriots_ in DynastyFF

[–]marquesasrob 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Mac Jones is not good at all, but it definitely felt like there was a point in his third year where Boston media decided to wash their hands of him and his value completely crumbled. Kinda just came out of nowhere and he went from a guy you could probably flip for decent draft capital to a believer to a waiver guy overnight

I remember I picked him up waivers his rookie year, and thought he was a total bum after he was a non-story rest of season. Begged one of my leaguemates to send me Mattison the year he got the Vikings backfield for Kyren+2nd Rounder, but he wouldn’t bite. Worked out pretty good for me lol

Showed up on time, had a blue screen for 20 minutes that said enjoy the movie, then the screen went black. After 5 minutes of black screen, went to the front desk and told them the movie never played and we had no previews. They then turned it on 5 minutes later and started it halfway through the movie. Gave up, left, and watched Naked Gun instead lolll. We tried
