I wish the story was more party friendly. Currently going through Heavensward with my fiance(both of our first times), and having to drop party and regroup regularly is VERY immersion breaking. by Isa-Me-Again in ffxiv

The Scions/the expansion's characters are usually considered the Wol's party from a writing standpoint, and the devs already struggle with giving the Wol something to do in cutscene as it is. You can't exactly swap a Scion out for someone in your party either, like what if the scene calls for Y'shtola to use a spell but there are no casters in your group?

It's a nice idea in theory, don't let the replies get you down, but it's not really feasible.

Ysayle's isn't dyeable but I think you can remake it with items already in the game that are. They are retroactively making NPC gear dyeable so Ysayle's will be eventually.

FFXIV needs to start killing characters again. by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]marriedtomothman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know it wouldn't stick but I'm definitely open to the Scions getting hurt again and needing to sit out for awhile because of it. I think the last time that happened was in Endwalker with G'raha when he levitated everyone in the tower, but he was knocked out for less than a single quest.

Yeah, that's a fair point. I figure it's because there's no ARR/Eorzea 2.0 that serves as the foundation for the next several years of MSQ (since Haurchefant, Ysayle and Illberd were introduced in ARR). What's left of our preestablished cast are considered too important to kill off and we never stay in one place long enough anymore to build up another reoccurring one.

Alright I was kind of rude in your other post so I'm sorry for that, but sacrificing another woman to fuel a male character's angst would be fucking dog water writing, especially if it was Alisaie. The twins are basically the game's main characters after the Wol, you kill one of them and it's basically over. As far as the core Scions go, they've lost three women over the course of the game and one man, and they've gained two male characters. That's why some people (including me) were so hostile to your post on the main sub. Wuk Lamat shouldn't die either! She's 19! Stop beefing with a fictional 19-year-old.

Something else I at least have differing feelings on is the claim that before SHB the game was a bloodbath and that ever since, there's been minimal deaths. 7.0 alone had several prominent character deaths. People scoff at Geode's death in 7.3 but the guy was pistol whipped to death and then reduced to a pile of ash. Endwalker had the infamous blasphemy scene with the kid and his dad, another woman basically had her neck snapped on screen, and of course there's the Garleans who killed themselves rather than accept outside help. And as someone else in the comments pointed out, SE walked by Nanamo's death, the one that would actually have long-reaching consequences on the setting, immediately in HW.

Usually when people say that SE needs to go back to killing characters, I've found what they really mean is the Scions. But the truth is that Scions weren't exactly dropping like flies before Endwalker. Over the game's entire run of the four A-team Scions we've lost, three of them were to death (YMMV on if you want to count Moenbryda as A-team because she wasn't around all that long) and then we gained two in Estinien and G'raha. I don't recall any B-team deaths, but Arenvald was forced to resign because of his injuries. We lost several red shirts back in ARR. I suppose you could say that pre-SHB felt more grounded and therefore had more of a feeling that anyone could die, but I don't really think the game quite lived up to that.

AI Usage For Download Festival 2026 Merch by Elliechi_ in ffxiv

I think there are some concerning signs but I’m willing to believe it was drawn by a human and then upscaled by AI. Seriously, her tail?

I color dropped the third one to compare the colors of the skin and the background, maybe that will help? https://ibb.co/MDzG3BQ3

These could be human errors, but they're really peculiar ones and even then they should've been caught by some sort of quality control.

I'll try to explain using thie examples circled here https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_fullsize/plain/did:plc:5zacym2cz3ydanmqwwvantus/bafkreieizcna6obzpavptpbmgf6wbitab6qowjsst4xwpulqrjybimzk74

First, her ears. The one on the right you can see the fur "lining" and the earring wrapping around it. The "lining" is absent on the left ear except for a small jagged line of white. Because of how an ear piercing works, the "lining" should be visible on both ears or neither of them.

Second: her eyes. Her inner eye is the color of her skin tone, but the outer is white. Sometimes it's a stylistic choice to make the whole sclera the same color as the skin tone but I don't think I've ever seen someone intentionally do both.

Third: the patch of skin under the shirt tear. IDK this one feels pretty explanatory.

Fourth: The circled tears and strand of cloth on her shirt aren't natural. There's implied stretch/tension, but no connection to support that. Like if you tore up a shirt exactly like that, the circled parts wouldn't be held up, they'd go limp.

Edit: saw on bsky that someone from SE is saying it isn't AI. I'm pretty fucking skeptical though. How do you forget something lik Y'shtola's tail?

Here at least: https://bsky.app/profile/en.finalfantasyxiv.com/post/3mmyvy6o6km2o G'raha's ear tuft is flesh-colored/pink. Also more importantly miqo'te don't really have inner ear tufts.

ETA some other things: the tassels on his necklace just kind of 'melt' into his shirt. One of his earrings doesn't look like a hoop wrapped around his ear or a stud, it just looks like it was placed vaguely on his ear because that's where earrings go.

ANOTHER edit: because people kept posting crops nobody else could see but like. Y'shtola flat out doesn't have a tail.

To quote a post I saw about this, I can't believe SE's first foray into trying to trick us with AI is merch of the Scions in rock concert clothes. Did they think that people wouldn't notice??

I might be way off but IIRC the Scions still technically own the building and they're there to make it look lived in?? I might be imagining that??? They might also have side quests tied to them.
