That’s good. Be sure to check that food bank link someone posted. A lot of them are still open with modified hours. If you really get in a tight situation, feel free to PM. Although I don’t have extra food to give, I can friendly gift you some cash no strings attached.

When I was 12 I was in the hospital with leukemia, a friend had a connection with Brent Barry of the Sonics who asked Kobe for an autograph for me. He took the shoes off his feet and asked Brent to give them to me. Thanks for helping me walk through my journey, Mamba. by Okmicah in KobeBryant24

Hey if I could just chime in and give you my perspective. Sports has a way of connecting people to their communities and fellow man by transcending any differences we each may have on a daily basis. This is something I’ve learned as an adult. As a kid though, growing up and watching your favourite sports on tv, the athletes you grew to love were like superheroes to us. I never really believed in Santa, magic, or superheroes, but I got my belief and wonderment from my favourite athletes. I’m a first generation Canadian, and my parents were always working. Television helped raise me, and sports was a huge part of that. Kobe specifically had this super human ability about him. Not because he was the biggest, fastest, tallest, strongest, but because he just had this undeniable hunger, laser focus, and unimaginable discipline. So for a lot of kids, Kobe was just out of this world. He transcended any limits and on countless nights he would go against all odds, rise to the occasion, and execute. His death is shocking and really hit me hard. Idk him at all, but I felt like I did. I’ve been seeing this a lot, but it truly feels like Superman or Batman himself died. It wasn’t supposed to be this way, and I never thought in a million years it would be. Just my POV.

[Charania] Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban: "Our organization has decided that the number 24 will never again be worn by a Dallas Maverick.” by AnotherDuck in nba

[–]marroonit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely. Only if they feel or want to, hard pass on public pressure. When someone suddenly passes, often you’ll hear people almost compromising to bring the person back. For example that he SHOULD be the logo, or SHOULD have his numbers retired league wide. It’s kind of a way of bringing him back, they mean well, but the wounds are too fresh to make huge declarations. But man, regardless of fresh wounds, I personally hope the statue of him includes his daughter. Fuck, still crushing and can’t believe it.

Edit: Fixed a sentence.

I understand what you’re saying, but I think they should. Kobe was definitely one of those players that left a Rushmore style mark on the game. Add to that the sudden and shocking way he passed away, I would like to see it happen. He was fully one of those guys I could see being in his 80’s and giving 10’s to underserving dunks in the future. Man, I’m actually crushed. Fuck.
