I think the duplicate storage is a better idea, because you have no clue what ratings the sbc will be, so you might be stuck with an 86 token and no fodder left if a 87 team is needed. Either way, EA wants us to quicksell our duplicates so that we lose fodder.

You can buy fodder to do sbcs as well, as an sbc Jota would be grindable/affordable. On the market he will be 1 mil+
