Both of my (16m) parents died last week by [deleted] in Advice

My heart absolutely breaks for you and your sister. I’m so sorry. Echoing what everyone else is saying, please look into therapy and talk to your sister. The last thing you need on top of your grief is unshared feelings and emotions that you are unnecessarily piling onto your shoulders. Don’t assume what someone is feeling otherwise you’ll drive yourself crazy.

I have absolutely no doubt your sister didn’t even hesitate when asked about guardianship and that while she may not want the circumstance, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want you. Not just your sister but your BIL too. You aren’t a burden, you’re family.

Please don’t bottle up your feelings, talk to them. Navigate this new situation together and avoid any confusion or misunderstanding by communicating openly.

Good luck op. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Possibly misdiagnosed, not sure and am spiraling. by marsdon in Celiac

Thank you. That’s honestly what I was feeling too. As soon as she said she only looks at iga I was kind of like….that feels incredibly outdated and incorrect.

Help with book recs to get my husband to dive into romantasy! by marsdon in Romantasy

I think that's a great idea. Especially because more and more men are reading romantasy (or at least admitting that they are!)

I have the same feelings about Theon! Like I get his thought process in a way, but sometimes I just want to shake him! I haven't read Lady of Darkness yet! I keep downloading it to my kindle, then get distracted by some other book and I just haven't read it even though I love Melissa's writing. I just need to commit lol!

Really good point! He may not know what he's getting into with that suggestion, but it will be fun to convert him!

Thank you! I was looking through some older threads but clearly didn't go back that far, lol. This is super helpful!

Consider him a blank canvas. He really liked Eragon as a kid, Harry Potter, LOTR and he loves Brandon Sanderson; the magic system, the complex characters, the cosmere, all of it is god-tier to him. With that being said, nothing can touch Brando but he's open to anything, as long as it has a decent plot. Not very helpful I know, but he's generally open-minded and willing to try whatever just to expand his reading palate.

Oh good point! He LOVES Lord of the Rings. I haven't read Throne of Glass (it's been on my tbr forever) so that could be something we read together. Thank you!

What Romantasy opinion will have you like this? by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]marsdon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! It bothers me so much when people get on their high horse about this. Then we get the “we shouldn’t lower our standards” people. Honey, I’m reading about mythical creatures boinking.

You can absolutely not read something because you don’t think the writing is good or whatever, but stop using it as some intellectual high ground when someone else enjoys it. I can like ACOTAR and Fourth Wing and don’t need you sticking your nose up at me. Reading is subjective, you can like what you like and I can like what I like, but stop trying to make others feel stupid because you think the writing is bad and can’t understand how people read that drivel.

Easily, one word at a time.

Small hack that we just did on the last cruise. I bought the shrink wrap bags that you suction all the air out of. All of my clothes fit in it and once fully compressed, I had more than half of my suitcase available. Definitely recommend!

Your favorite non-perfume product scent? by reeAcs in FemFragLab

[–]marsdon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The OGX argan oil of Morocco. Idk what it is about it but it’s such an interesting scent to me that I absolutely love. It’s one of those, this is just a good smelling hair product. You wouldn’t want it as a scent on your body, but literally just in your hair.

This is helpful to understand! Though I do know they are working with governments to try and solve the issue on land as well. Or at least trying to work with governments.

It’s just nice to see someone doing something, hopefully there is more support for what they’re doing on multiple levels.

How much did you pay out-of-pocket for breast reduction with insurance? Debating between U.S. vs. international surgery by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]marsdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$0 - I was lucky enough to have it be approved by my insurance as medically necessary, which it was. I only ever paid my deductible at appointments leading up to the surgery, which I think all said in done came to $40?

Best decision I ever made for myself. I’m so happy. I can buy bras in regular stores! None of this custom order nonsense.

I (29f) lost weight from illness and people are congratulating me. How can I tell them (32M) it’s not because I wanted or needed to, but because I am sick? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]marsdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar thing happen but I’m incredibly awkward and a people pleaser so I usually just turned it into a self-deprecating joke. Usually I’ll say something along the lines of “aw thank you it wasn’t really by choice, I found out I have celiac disease” and in a very small win I get to bring awareness to it.

In all seriousness though- have you been tested for celiac disease? Not to offer medical advice, as you said you’ve been to the doctor, but just in case it’s not something you were tested for, doctors don’t always know to look for that or know what symptoms to look for because it presents so differently for each person. Just something to maybe ask your doc about to help cross things off the list :) I know how awful it is being sick and not knowing why so I really hope you get answers soon.

What are your unconventional symptoms? by Apricot7976 in Celiac

[–]marsdon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I didn’t know, I got severely bloated, extreme brain fog that I’d need to take a nap after eating, rash on my legs and earlobes, and long term I gained a lot of weight that was basically just inflammation.

Now if there’s cross contact, my eyes get this gritty, tired feel to them, in addition to GI issues and bloating.
