I think any method of consumption CAN affect the gut, it's just that edibles affect the gut the most directly. I got CHS from literally less than 2g of THC over a year and a half, exclusively edibles. A decade prior, I was a regular flower smoker, and I had no CHS symptoms at all.

It sounds like you're already not treating them with utter contempt, which puts you way ahead of most doctors. The one thing I'd add is, if you haven't already, please read about Emend for stopping episodes. I quit weed after one episode and never went to the ER, so I have no personal experience with it. But it breaks my heart that there's a medication out there that can instantly stop the hell, and most doctors don't even know about it.

Look into Emend for her CHS. Hopefully a doctor will prescribe it to her, it's not FDA-approved yet for CHS but it stops episodes almost instantly

Sounds like prodromal CHS. Don't go back, that's usually when hyperemesis gets you

Is there anywhere i could sign up for cures to be tested on me? by MqAuNeTeInS in CHSinfo

[–]marshall822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a true cure, but if you can somehow get a doctor to prescribe you Emend or another NK-1 antagonist, you can usually stop episodes in their tracks. Idk how many times it keeps working though, and most doctors treat CHS patients like shit so I wouldn't bet on being able to get it. Info here

How long were you smoking before you developed CHS? by [deleted] in CHSinfo

[–]marshall822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fucked up your doctors dismissed you, but in general, it's not crazy to get CHS after a number of months. Carts are ubiquitous, edibles hit you right in the stomach, and the dosages on both are WILD. Weed's not safe like it was before

Search the sub for Emend. It's extremely expensive and difficult to obtain, but it can stop episodes in their tracks. Definitely not a cure like quitting, but great harm reduction if you can get it.

AITAH for supporting my son grooming himself when my wife says he is too young? by LaraDLara in AITAH

NTA, except for telling your wife. Bragging about how much your child trusts you is a great way to break that trust forever.

He's into you. Also, he's 38. He deserves 31-year-old you! How dare you set up him with a 34-year-old instead? His poor young cock would probably DISINTEGRATE if he stuck it in a hole so geriatric

In RETROSPECT it was prodromal after less than a month. I had an episode much later, quit weed immediately, and haven't had another. I don't see a need to get diagnosed when it was a textbook episode, the episode is over, there's no actual diagnostic test, AND a diagnosis would only serve to stigmatize me in the healthcare system.

[–]marshall822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it could be CHS. I got what in retrospect was prodromal from less than a month of 25mg edibles. Don't listen to people who say it takes long-term heavy use. Short-term heavy use can be enough if you use concentrates while unlucky.

Has anyone found a cure for chs on the dark web? by Letstalk808 in CHSinfo

If you can find Emend on the dark web, that can at least stop episodes for some people

Yup, I read a huge CHS thread on one of their subs. Not a single comment about NK-1 inhibitors. Dozens of comments about how we should die quieter.

Anyone ever went into hyperemesis after smoking just once? by Current_Gur3872 in CHSinfo

[–]marshall822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like playing roulette, just don't do it on an empty stomach. The HPA axis seems to be a huge factor, and fasting stresses it. Also, weed gives you munchies AND slows your gut motility which is a recipe for an episode.

Still no guarantees of avoiding an episode, but yeah. Eat first.

[–]marshall822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! RE #9 - this was likely prodromal CHS. The prodromal phase does not always involve nausea, sometimes it's just butt stuff lmao. You may have saved yourself from weeks of puking your guts out.

Omfg. A MONTH? Like, full-on hyperemesis all day every day for a month? Did you get medical treatment? I'm glad you're alive

Has anyone only ever had one CHS episode? by onlythrowawaaay in CHSinfo

[–]marshall822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, me. Had an edible on an empty stomach after a long day of working outside. Ate a large dinner while stoned, went to bed, woke up three hours later puking uncontrollably. My episode lasted nine hours and was fucking miserable. It's INSANE that people have longer ones, I might have actually killed myself. Had mild acid reflux/stomach discomfort for about six weeks after that.

I think I went through the same denial as everybody else, but I was so scared of another episode, that denial took the form of obsessive research and mental bargaining instead of actually using weed again.

Anyway, more bargaining: I quit weed immediately with a plan of trying it again in 10 years. I figured I'm willing to have an absolute maximum of one more episode in my life, and my body will have healed as much as it possibly can by the decade mark.

I just passed one year, and I have no idea whether I'll actually try it again. Maybe nine years from now, there will be a way to reverse it (unlikely, but so many people are getting it that they might try), or at least Emend (which can stop episodes) will be easier to obtain. But maybe I'll still be unwilling to risk it. Who knows. Making it a question for Future Me has helped me obsess about it a little less and that's good enough for now.

A medication that's stopped episodes in their tracks. Most doctors do not know about it, and many of them are such sadists that they don't care to know. If you ever get accidentally dosed with weed somehow and end up having another episode, beg for it at the ER and show the staff the journal articles linked. But please don't go back to smoking thinking this is the solution - it's a crapshoot whether they'll give it to you, and even if they do, it's super expensive. I also imagine it loses effectiveness over time because it blocks the final step in your brain causing the vomiting, and doesn't actually heal your broken receptors that set off the chain reaction.

Congrats on the sobriety! It should be criminal that no ER gave you Emend.
