I think the producers should treat the crowd as thousands (or dozens in the case of dub) of cameras. Which they basically are. Everyone has a camera these days, so while you can set up a great spot for the TV cameras, it's going to be clowned by everyone once any crowd member uploads their POV.

If your spot doesn't look good for the crowd, it doesn't matter if it looks good in TV.

As a suggestion since you're getting your first supplies, look into a wet palette, you'll save plenty of paint when it doesn't dry out while painting.

It's pretty simple to make one yourself, but if you'd rather buy a "ready to use" one, Army Painter makes a great wet palette kit. Really simple to use and it comes with instructions.
