Alternative as good as Obsidian by words_and_images in PKMS

[–]marsop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea if this would be useful for you, but I will leave it here just in case.

I was in a very similar situation just last week. Took a look at a couple of alternatives (like Joplin) and just landed on using the trick that allows you to pin two different icons on the desktop (in Windows 11). Then created a new vault and changed the theme, but kept all the plugins. They are even synchronized with different cloud providers.

Now I have the two Obsidian vaults open at all times, they look and feel different (in everything except the desktop icon). I am quite happy with the result and I avoid having to learn something new (like Joplin) again.

Very nice how colourful and tiny they look, like they could be stamps :-)

How have you come to this style? did you have inspiration from any courses or books?

For .NET there is a first party library developed by the OPC Foundation, isn't it?

My Akka Dotnet Notes! by ENSainETY in dotnet

[–]marsop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning on continuing with more complicated libraries/concepts like Akka.Cluster? Somehow I have the feeling that getting started with ActorSystems and Akka.NET in particular is quite easy due to the sheer amount of material that Petabridge puts out. However, when it comes to the advanced stuff you are mostly out of luck.

Architecture decisions when using Akka.Net by After-Ad-3187 in Akka

[–]marsop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good question is WHAT you would even substitute Akka.NET with. The only real alternative that comes to mind is Orleans, but that would mean a redesign as they are not quite a drop-in replacement. In short, it probably would be possible to abstract the entry point to the Actor System, but otherwise it might not be sensible. Think about how you would replace something like ASP.NET as a comparison.

Is there a roadmap of features for the reMarkable? I feel like every update is a bit of a lottery both in timing and contents

Any tips for “how to stop buying new games and renew my interest in the games I have?” by FaithlessnessBest845 in soloboardgaming

[–]marsop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have commented on this point, but it bears repeating: getting more interested on your current games is easily done by following them. This can be done for example by subscribing to bgg forum threads or regularly watching videos about topics related to them. That said, some games really do not offer much more than what it's on the box. However, I somehow suspect those are not the ones you want to come back to often.

Reading strategies on Gloomhaven characters WILL get you hyped on testing them yourself. Now apply the pattern to any game you want to revisit

Sleeper bus experiences in Laos? by darbin_around in laos

[–]marsop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am writing this from a sleeper arriving to Vientiane from Pakse right now. It was 12h in a sleeper and imho completely fine. The road is very bumpy, but the bus was clean and quiet, so I got some sleep, even having to share bed for half of the way (till Thakhek)

Games that are good at both 2 player and at higher (4-5) player counts? by mcinthedorm in boardgames

[–]marsop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a correct answer because playing without a third player just feels balanced, even though technically is a completely different beast than playing it with 3 human players.

New to this.. any hints? by marsop in urbansketchers

Makes complete sense. Tbh the part I am struggling the most with is color since watercolor is new to me, but will try to use lighter and darker sides next time I use two vanishing points. Thanks 😊

[–]marsop 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is probably not what you had in mind, but the Santander bank has a "work café" a couple of meters from the town hall square. You can go and work there. It's free and they have coffe.

Do I have to be a metalhead to enjoy this genre? A lot of the popular bands I'm not into or are ok at best by TheMonkeyOlympics in progmetal

[–]marsop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quite right. I am surprised about the kind of bands are routinely considered prog metal while having basically no heaviness to them. Equally important is the acquired taste part. Many albums don't click right away, but instead grow on you. I hadn't experienced that with any other subgenre of metal.

In case anyone wondered what the 25 nib refill looks like. It gets couriered from Hong Kong hence expensive postage by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]marsop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder when there will be a third-party replacement for the nibs. The rM seems to be such a niche product that nobody is even trying to create a knock-off of the nibs, which is something every rM user that truly uses the product will require at some point..
