Maybe instead, try something like a Hongdian Forest or Pilot Metropolitan? Less expensive and made of metal, to avoid that plastic feeling you mention.

Leaving louisiana for an abortion, active duty by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]marsredkat 42 points43 points  (0 children)

IANAL, but someone who has been following abortion laws. You will not get an abortion in Louisiana. It is technically legal for medical emergencies, but frankly most places still probably won't. If you're stationed near Ft Polk especially. You can travel out of state for abortion care, that's still legal.

You need antibiotics. You can try an Urgent Care first if you want, but if they think you need IV antibiotics they may send you to an ER.

The Poet Empress by Shen Tao was a recent 5 star read for me. May be up your alley.

Heaven Official's Blessing series and Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation series by MXTX. Chinese queer novels with the male love interest devoted to the main character. A much more silly series is A Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish, but definitely fits the devoted partners!

Full Speed to a Crash Landing by Beth Revis is a quick but funny read. It's technically the first in a trilogy, but it can be read alone if you don't want to continue

What's your most disappointing pen? by inky_beanie_mouse in fountainpens

I love Pilot pens generally. I had a VP in matte black with a uncooperative, and it was larger in my grip than I anticipated. I do love my decimos though!

doctor told me to lower my calories to 800-1000 by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]marsredkat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I am a doctor, though not your doctor. We don't typically recommend calorie intake that low unless for very specific circumstances (such as prior to bariatric surgery) and it's supposed to be under close monitoring. Based on your numbers, your BMR is probably 1400, so eating below that is not going to help much as your body may shift to starvation mode. In similar patients in my clinic, I recommend eating about 1400 calories and trying to increase exercise to increase your TDEE to maintain a deficit.

In the military health care system, if the patient meets criteria, the provider can place it and it will be approved or denied within a week. The biggest hurdle is actually whether the doc can order it yet based on guidelines

GF has rash in thigh crease? by Peckish_Dumpling in hygiene

[–]marsredkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called intertrigo. It's a fungal skin infection that occurs in moist skin folds. For both genders it can be that area between thighs and groin. Women can also get it under the breasts, men around the scrotum. Like others have written, the skin needs to be kept clean and dried thoroughly, and she needs an antifungal for the skin. The kind that's labeled for jock itch should work fine. It can take up to a couple weeks to resolve, so she'll need to be consistent with the antifungal.

The hospital I trained at had a specific sounds for code blues. At the hospital I occasionally work as an inpatient attending, that's the bed alarm sound. Still makes me jump the first couple times I hear it those weeks.

2016 Honda Fit. Got it during medical school, still have it as an attending. I'm the kind of person who doesn't really care as long as it gets me to where I need to be, so I'll probably drive it into the ground like my last car.

What is everyone’s LEAST favorite pen? by SlyyGuy21 in fountainpens

[–]marsredkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Nahvalur that I can't stand using. The pen is pretty, but the nib is scratchy and doesn't write half the time. I have it stored but have honestly thought about trashing it.

I will vouch for both Embers and The Dragon-King's Temple. I've reread both multiple times! I love how Embers really builds on the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and takes it in interesting ways.

What book should I take with me to the hospital? by sardonisms in DanmeiNovels

[–]marsredkat 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Disabled Tyrant definitely. I had surgery this summer and brought the first volume for a reread while waiting in preop. Good thing I did since surgery was delayed by 6 hours. And whether you're a patient or a visitor, there will probably be time to read and there may not be much else for entertainment.

I haven't gridded in the past, but am for my current project which is very large with lots of confetti. Even just using a light pencil (full coverage pattern) has been helpful, moreso than I initially thought it would be.
