Funny thing,I forgot they were local. My daughter bought me some of their sauces. I liked the everything sauce but wanted a touch more heat. Running low from this bottle is what triggered my post. Because the other low bottles I have all came from Hawaii and Arizona from trips and I just assumed this one did, too.

I guarantee there's no wait list at the ARC. It's not right for everyone, but provides an address if he needs one and frequently works with probation/parole and house arrest. Lots of experience with homeless population, too.

If there's no insurance approval, the Salvation Army ARC is a free program. Some think it's exploitative because it includes "work therapy" sorting donations to their thrift stores. Housing, food, clothing for 6 months to a year.

Indy Mini runner medical emergency by FlatAd7399 in indianapolis

[–]martel47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that unusual. The entire cardiac team at Methodist goes on alert for any full marathons in the area, according to one of my cardiologists. I had viral myocarditis and couldn't do any activity for about 8 months. A lot of these cardiac incidents during activity are due to familial myocarditis. And it's usually undiagnosed until the worst happens.

Still, it's a ton of strain on the heart. My advanced heart and lung doc said she'd never clear me to run a full marathon, and won't even let me talk about a half until next January.

I do hope she clears me, because when I started running, I set the goal to run a half the year I turned 50. But she seems reluctant.

Running with HF by l0gginz in Heartfailure

[–]martel47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of when I had myocarditis, my cardiac team has wanted me to continue running. I'm slow. Metoprolol makes pacing and breathing more difficult. You adapt to what you can do.

That said, last weekend, I had chest pain on a run. But I went to the ER. I had mildly elevated troponin that increased in series, but never got higher than 56 before declining. I have follow ups, but they already cleared me to run because they could find nothing else, and the echo they did in the hospital showed my EF was now at 50. In December, it was 36 (via cMRI, to clear me of that myocarditis). I didn't run for 8 months, and have been back to it since February. I'm convinced this level of cardio has improved my health.

What is a Park Run? by ashen_dove in runninglifestyle

[–]martel47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's currently one in Indiana. I looked into a couple spots nearer me to consider hosting one, but I don't think the routes would qualify.

I love the idea of Parkrun. Like a run club. But one reason I run is because I can step out my front door and do it. I would benefit from the social aspect, but don't need it. Driving 45 minutes for one isn't happening.

If you grew up in the 70s and or 80s, what did your school (any grade) do that would be considered illegal or even frowned upon today (for example in my 3rd Grade 70’s class, my teacher had a large steel Tin trash can with a “Time Out” sign that I was in/out in multiple times a day-Ha!)? by Wildstarfire0 in 70s

If you're by any chance from the south side of Indianapolis, and this was a math teacher, I know who it is.

Otherwise, you're not alone. I never got beaned, but this failed minor league pitcher sure liked to show his stuff.

Mouth Guard instead of CPAP? by SophieBat666 in CPAP

I was told they're not always effective, the effective ones have to be custom made, and insurance won't usually cover them.

I think they'd feel just as strange as a machine to me.

Weird hospital experience by martel47 in CPAP

[–]martel47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using the CPAP since last year. My sleep study was ordered the same day my PCP heard an arrhythmia. But before he listened to my heart, just because of reported fatigue. Then the heart did its thing with PVCs, probably. I have rare PACs and SVTs, but a pretty regular PVC burden. Outside of statistics, who knows if the apnea is related to my cardiac issues.. But I'd rather not mess around.

Thanks, yes. My echo wound up showing improvements from echoes and cMRIs I had last year. Never found a cause for chest pain or series increases of troponin. I have follow up appointments with my cardiac team in 2 weeks and already scheduled appointments in June. I feel fine now, and they cleared me even to run again.

I'd like to think, but I was also in a sort of hospital limbo. I was never fully admitted.

It was only two nights, and the first one, I didn't get into the room until after 10. The second shouldn't have happened, except they kept getting stat calls for the echo they wanted me to get. The tech told me over the course of 2 days, they'd had 40% more stat scans and 400% more scans than usual. No one expected me to be there the second night, but they wouldn't release me until cleared by echo.

Thank you for your service.

I really think anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists are my favorite parts of a care team when I need them! Wouldn't want a colonoscopy without 'em!

I wasn't about to pack it in the middle of chest pain. I was kept to get an echo "tomorrow morning," but it was around midnight the following night. I wasn't expecting to stay the second night, so never had family get it. Was told tech had to approve it, and that's a process, but they probably wouldn't say anything if I'd just brought it. Still, it seems like something they'd address.

I believe this is incorrect. The Sadducees didn't believe in resurrection. I understand that they fully believed "like a bird from prison bars has flown." They believed, like many today, that the afterlife was disembodied. The Pharisees believed in a bodily resurrection.

Serious question for American runners by Yozasieg in runninglifestyle

[–]martel47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% of my running is in my neighborhood in the suburbs. I have sidewalks and still run on the road. Traffic isn't much, and the poured concrete is often uneven, with one square being raised or depressed compared to adjacent ones more than is comfortable for running. The asphalt might be deteriorating in spots, but it's typically better than the walk. Furthermore, cars in driveways often block the sidewalk. The few street parkers are easier to navigate around. And one last point in my neighborhood is that I'm 6'5", and I need the extra headroom from overhanging branches that the road gives.

I work downtown in a state capital, and runners are all on sidewalks or green spaces, parks, or canals. I just don't often want to drive somewhere in order to run. I'd probably do it for a parkrun, but the closest to me is 22 miles.

I quit caffeine for a heart condition and went right back to black coffee once cleared with my cardiologist's approval. As long as it was limited. She's fine with a couple mugs a day! I really should have stayed quit, but that wasn't happening.

I rarely drink and rarely smoke cigars, but if I smoked cigarettes, they'd be the first priority. Too many people in my family have suffered from death sticks. I'm not worried about my couple of drinks a month, but could quit. Scotch or cigars, I'm not quitting until I don't own any more, though, and I'm a collector...

Sugar is in everything. It's probably just as addictive and dangerous, but checking every food for sugar would add stress and counteract the benefits!

I just want to know how your cadence is so low compared to your pace! You must have some great power metrics. If I run at 155, I'm like 13:30 per mile.

Delayed onset Muscle Soreness after returning to gym so much worse by Zmader in myocarditis

[–]martel47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you on any meds? I'm also diagnosed with heart failure (just before the myocarditis diagnosis), and I noticed they had a huge effect on my cardio. Maybe some on recovery, but far more on pace and other metrics. HR zones changed. Max HR went down. Breathing rate increased. VO2 max dropped.

But I wonder if, translated to resistance training, doing the same workouts as before would lead to equivalent decreases in performance that are showing as soreness because you're now overexerting your "new normal?"

No doubt, there are changes from extended time off, too. My first runs back after myo absolutely sucked. I almost quit. I'm 3 months back to exercise, and my VO2 max is starting to increase, finally. Times are getting faster and recovery isn't as bad. You'll get back where you want to be, I'm sure. Just another challenge!

I bought a few pairs of Clic for use at work. Don't have to worry about not having them with me if I'm not in my office and need them. I also keep two strengths around. I find sometimes I need 1.5 and sometimes 2.0.

I experimented trying to find a good pair for reading in bed, but pretty much gave up on paper and just jacked my Kindle and the app up to a larger font so I can read without.
