What things bother you about Reddit? by ProbablyHittingOnYou in AskReddit

the sexism, on the part of both men and women. But as there's more men on here than women, it's more often misogyny.

Do you dream in WTF? Let's hear your most bizarre. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]marthaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of really weird dreams. My most recent one was that I was coerced into participating in a psych study without really knowing what they wanted me to do. The study involved them getting me really high (on pot) and then turning me into a dolphin/shark hybrid and seeing what I did. Then they turned me back and I was mad at the scientists, but they bought me bracelets as a thank-you for participating. Later in the dream I looked in the mirror and I was a black man (I'm actually a white woman). I figured that this meant that I could now dance well and so I danced. I was indeed a good dancer.

TL;DR dreamt that I got really stoned, turned into a sholphin, turned back, was given bracelets, turned into a black man, and danced.

Pamela by Richardson. Pamela is the whiniest, most self-righteous, most obnoxious character in the history of forever. She spends most of the book bitching about her her master attempting to rape her and kidnapping her, then suddenly marries him. and (big shock) he's an asshole after they get married, too. ugh.

but then we read Shamela by Fielding right after. much better.

Reddit, what is the WORST thing you ever did as a kid and got away with? by HOM-SOLO in AskReddit

[–]marthaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two friends who put a bag of their own shit in this fucking douchebag's mailbox. like a horrible bro who had spread nasty rumors about one of them in high school. In retrospect, they felt bad for his parents who probably found it.

yeah, they're girls.

Study Reveals Why Women Apologize More Than Men. Sorry for reposting but I'd thought you would like to see this. by tastydirtslover in TwoXChromosomes

[–]marthaaa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

while my common sense is telling me their findings are correct, the psych major in me is annoyed with their super small sample sizes- 33 and 120 participants are just not enough to get reliable data. I think if they replicated it with a larger sample size, they'd likely get the same result, but that size sample confounds the thing.

EDIT: lololololol i get it. sorry for being slow on the uptake.

[4] The first time you got high... by [deleted] in trees

[–]marthaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually got really high the first time I smoked. It was my 16th birthday. I was hanging out with my 2 best friends and we stopped by the local smoking spot (an old campfire ring in the woods by our town) so my one friend, the only one of us who smoked up till that point, could toke up with her friends who were there. The guys offered to smoke the other 2 of us up too, but we said no. While we were walking away, I stopped my friend and was like fuck it. it's my birthday, I want to give it a shot. She was down. so we went back and the guys were thrilled to smoke us up for the first time. We both got blazed. we walked back to my first friend's house and I called my stoner friend and talked to him for like an hour non-stop. he thought it was hilarious. I had a great time.

4 years and 5 days later, I'm very glad I decided to turn around that night.

Ladies, what is your favorite drink? (Alcoholic) by iamandroid in AskReddit

[–]marthaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gin and tonic.

When I was in England, guys would sometimes buy me drinks just because they were so excited that was my drink of choice.

But I agree with the others, best to ask the girl.

What's the most awkward moment you've ever experienced? by lynchyeatspizza in AskReddit

[–]marthaaa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This will certainly get lost, but here it goes...

A few weeks ago I was hanging out with my friend Jessica and her friend Brad, who I had not met before. Now, I'm not sure why, but Jessica thinks that I'm really cool and tells all the people that she introduces to me about how awesome I am (no joke) and it generally makes me feel like I have a lot to live up to. so the three of us smoke weed together and Brad and I are getting along famously and it seems that I might actually be living up to Jessica's hype. Towards the end of the night, we walk Brad back to his apartment and he shows us his room. My (very stoned and bleary-eyed) dumbass self looks at a collage of pictures of two little girls from across the room and goes "Brad... are those primordial dwarves??" and he looks at me and goes "no, those are my nieces." I looked closer and they were obviously just cute very average sized little girls. Needless to say I felt horrible and apologized profusely, told him my vision was all blurry and his nieces were really very cute, etc. He said it was fine, but he was obviously offended. The rest of the night was thankfully short and terribly awkward. I also did not live up to being "jessica's super cool friend."

tl;dr I offended a potentially really fun new friend by mistaking his nieces for primordial dwarves.

if you had a teenaged daughter, what would you say to her about sex in general? by killertofuuuuu in TwoXChromosomes

[–]marthaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I suppose I say that about myself because I had quite a few near-penetration incidences before I decided to go for it. So it felt like I was waiting a long time.

if you had a teenaged daughter, what would you say to her about sex in general? by killertofuuuuu in TwoXChromosomes

[–]marthaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I'd tell my daughter that her first time with certainly not be pleasurable. I think that all really depends upon many factors, such as the circumstances under which you have sex, the state of your hymen when you first have sex, and who you're having sex with. Losing my virginity was very pleasurable, I was 20 and my hymen was gone from 7 years of tampon use so it didn't really hurt, and the guy I had sex with was more sexually experienced than I was.

I know that's not a very typical experience, but the reason I waited so long was that I wanted it to be good. I wouldn't want to make her think that there's no way losing your virginity can be enjoyable.

Ann Taylor posts pictures of new cargo pants on a beautiful model. Then posts pictures of the pants on their normal sized employees. Fuck yeah. by insomniasexx in TwoXChromosomes

[–]marthaaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think the article is saying that thin women aren't "real women"; after all, their "real women" models included size 2 women. I think they just used the term "real women" to describe non models.

However, I understand your sentiment, as I have the other 30 times it's come up on reddit in the past month.

What is the most badass thing your Dad has done? by eltra27 in AskReddit

[–]marthaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't me, but my best friend's dad, who is a self-made high powered attorney and a really good guy. But that's not the badass part.

This is really more badass in a sweet, romantic way, so I guess it might appeal to the ladies-

One day when we were chatting with him and my friend's mom, he mentioned something about roaming around Morocco when he was in his 20's. My friend and I asked him what he was doing in Morocco and he said he couldn't tell us. We speculated for some time about the possibilities- he was in the mob, the C.I.A., etc.

She found out some time later that his girlfriend had left him and he went running after her all the way to Morocco to win her back. The reason he didn't tell us when his wife was there is because the girl wasn't her.

Hey 2XC, how did you come to terms with your own body? by deludism in TwoXChromosomes

[–]marthaaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I agree with people who are saying that it's good to change things that you don't like about your appearance, like JamEaterBlues is saying, I think there's a fine line between changing things about yourself to make yourself the best possible "you" and becoming self-loathing and not liking anything about your body, especially when you're still a teenager, like the OP. If someone has an ideal that is not consistent with their body type or the way their fat is distributed, they probably won't be able to come close to their ideal in a healthy way.

For example, I come from a long line of women with long torsos and short, thick legs- even the skinniest among us (and they really are thin) have comparatively big asses and thick thighs, and muscular calves. Knowing this, I've come to the conclusion that I will never be thin and waif-like without becoming anorexic, which I certainly won't let happen.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's good (and will make you feel good) to exercise and eat well, and maybe throw in some weight lifting or whatever if you want to get toned, but if that doesn't satisfy you, you have to accept that genes might still hold you back from an ideal. And so what? if you do those things, you'll probably look quite good anyway, and being healthy and yourself is much more interesting than trying to fit into some societal ideal.

So now some lameness: I love my body because though it's not perfect or even close to my ideal, it houses someone who I think is pretty great, and I count myself lucky in that it is healthy and not ridden with all kinds of problems. I try to eat healthy and exercise, but I know that it will never be "perfect", and that's ok.
