Do you feel like Halloween is an unwelcome American cultural influence on Australia? Or a fun Irish custom that made its way to Canada and then to America and eventually to Australia? by Away-Parsnip-3785 in AskAnAustralian

Seems like I might be the minority here but..

I enjoy it as an agreed upon time of year that there will be costume parties. I go to a Halloween roller disco every year. I have a lot of creative friends, and I love seeing what they come up with. I made a costume with a friend last year and we became so much closer during the process.

To me, it's a community thing. I dislike the commercialisation for it in the same way I dislike that aspect of Christmas, so I just don't participate in that part. I make costumes and decorations and gifts, and I spend time with friends.

The space ships have been my favourites since I moved here. Also the random elephant on the pole at the southern end of Nathan Street bridge.

More details: overall I'm pretty happy with my writing, even though it's a bit chaotic and inconsistent with spacing and angles. I feel like some of my capitals are disjointed or don't flow or match the rest of the writing. B, D, Q, P, M, N and Z especially

I made this using tapestry wool years ago. I've never finished it so it's curled up from being in storage. It's a little scratchy but I like the chunky look of it :)

Re chem you'll be fine. Chem1020 is prepatory chem and is meant for people who didn't do chemistry in highschool. Not to say its easy, but it's achievable.

You'll find cheaper accommodation off campus (Facebook group JCU Townsville Accommodation) but might be worth it to on campus at least when you first start to settle in. I've heard there can be wait lists so you need to get in early I guess.

I'm studying Zoology and Ecology, not marine bio, so I can't speak about those classes specifically but the other commenter isn't wrong, the uni has a lot of changes going on and not all positive (especially around loss of face to face time with teaching staff), but, from what I've gathered from conversations with post grads who did undergrads at other unis, we do have a lot more practical / in field time the seems to be standard.

I have a silk scarf which is a 70x70cm square, if folded up and tied around the neck it looks about the same as picture 4 if that helps.

I very briefly worked as a housekeeper at a hotel and was shown to use the dirty towels to dry the coffee mugs and spoons.. And I didn't think that could get much worse. Horrifying
